Next Gen. Pontiac GTO News **Update on platform (page 2)**
These are CGIs in the current month's MotorTrend magazine. The article talks about the use of the Zeta platform which of course means the article was written before the GM news about the platform.

GTO Will Motor On - - Source: The Car Connection
Despite the end of production this fall, General Motors vows its GTO coupe is in the Pontiac lineup to stay. The Detroit Free Press reports that GM is developing a new version of the two-door musclecoupe to take the place of the outgoing GTO, which is based on the Australian Holden Monaro coupe. Holden is building out the 2006 model year of the GTO, and the subsidiary is expected to build the next edition as well as one variant of a new rear-wheel-drive vehicle program. That new platform goes into production in mid-2006, the paper adds, first as a four-door Commodore sedan.

i like the CG's. the profile reminds me VERY MUCH of the mustang.
And I too actually like the Holden Monaro body. I haven't once seen a GTO blaze by on the freeway (owners tend to drive like asses), and not said to myself, damn, that shit is hot.

The next gto has to go in a whole new direction, this gen monaro was completely wrong for the name. They shoulda put some cts metal on it and it would have been a monster caddy coupe.

GTO Regeneration: Next-gen Pontiac muscle car reportedly will hit market in '08 - - By BOB GRITZINGER - - Source: Autoweek
What you see in this illustration is a fairly close rendition of what we can expect when the next-generation Pontiac GTO hits the market in 2008. We say “fairly close” because we’ve seen the super-secret spy photos upon which it is based, and the actual shots show a sleeker, wider, lower and, frankly, far more appealing car.
That’s the good news.
The bad news is General Motors’ Aussie division Holden reportedly may not start cranking out these future Goats until 2008, a full two years after production ceases on the 2006 Holden Monaro-based GTO.
One more tidbit: It’s not shown here, but we hear GM is considering doing this GTO as a four-door coupe, using rear-hinged rear-access doors without visible handles.

With as much trouble as GM has on the financial front, I wouldn't believe anything about future models until at least some close to production prototype makes the car show circuit.

This is good new, but the Camaro is "dead in the water?" WTF? It's definitely not to late for Zeta Lite, and GM knows it needs RWD cars ASAP. If the Grand Prix (G8?), GTO, Impala and Monte Carlo materializes, then we'll probably see a Velite and atleast a RWD Buick flagship. They need to get this out as fast as they can.
