Spy Shots: ’07 Chevy Avalanche - - by KGP Photography - - Source: The Car Connection
Using an extremely long lens to penetrate deep within one of GM's test tracks, our spies snapped these first photos of this 2007 Chevy Avalanche (GMT941) prototype.
The barbed wire fences and great distances precluded any detailed inspection of the new truck, but it's clear that GM will stick close to the same formula as today's Avalanche. Like the current Avalanche, the prototype clearly displays the same "flying buttress" design aft of the C-pillar, extending down into an integrated tonneau cover. Beneath the camouflage, it looks like GM has avoided any excessive cladding. The Avalanche pioneered the use of GM's Midgate, and it clearly looks to be employed on this second-generation prototype.
Few specific mechanical details are known at this time, but a source familiar with the General's GMT900 truck programs tells us that powertrain engineers have seen significant increases in torque in their next-generation truck engines.

I used to hate these too but I have one now and I love it. I test drove a Z71 ext cab and just for kick drove the Avalanche and I really like the Ava better. Plus I like the compartments and versatility of it. I ended getting a 4X4 with no cladding and loaded. The leathers kind of cheap but I like most thing about the truck. I only drive my CL once every couple of weeks now. I had a lot of freinds who did not like it also but I let them drive it a couple of times and have shown them all the cool features an now they are really starting to like it. One is planning on getting one and another just bought one. its a truck that just grows on you.

GM Will Unveil All New 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche, Make Major Alternative Fuel and OnStar Announcement at Chicago Auto Show
DETROIT - General Motors will introduce the all-new 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche, the latest rollout of its next-generation full-size truck family and the industry’s most flexible utility vehicle, at the Chicago Auto Show.
GM also will make two major announcements: One will build on the “Live Green Go Yellow” campaign GM launched Jan. 25 in Washington, D.C.; the second involves a technology enhancement at OnStar. OnStar will celebrate its 10th anniversary at the show.
“GM continues to demonstrate bold and innovative leadership in products and technology,” said Brent Dewar, GM vice president, marketing and advertising. “On these fronts and more, GM is truly on a roll.”
The Chevy Avalanche was the first to combine the passenger-comfort attributes of an SUV with the cargo capability of a truck. The 2007 model is based on GM’s brand-new, full-size SUV platform, which features more power with improved, segment-leading fuel economy and flex-fuel capability on some models; a sharper, more precise driving feel; increased interior refinement and improved quietness; and world-class safety. It will go on sale in the second quarter of 2006.
“Avalanche created the segment and it continues to dominate it. In 2007, the original gets even better,” said Dewar.
GM’s Chicago Auto Show exhibit also will feature many of the products introduced last month at the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show and North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
