What else could you possibly want gadget wise?! It soundsl like it's going to have every gizmo every other car in the world has, and more!

This car will again raise the bar in the category. Look for Mercedes to be the best in the category once again. They aint playing games with this one.

That's a great pic... I front evolutionary, but more agressive. The profile's gonna be faster and the wheel's a bit bigger, along with the whole car growing a bit... I agree. Merc's not taking any chance, and no prisoners. This thing will be a concrete standard bearer.

Spy Shots: ’06 Mercedes S-Class - - Airbags by the dozen and more. - - by Brenda Priddy - - Source: The Car Connection

Codenamed W221, these are the very first 2006 S-Class pictures with just a smidgen of camouflage.

The seventh-generation S-Class measures up larger than today's version, and will offer a new lineup of engines including V-6 and V-8 offerings, and a new 3.0-liter V-6 diesel with over 230 horsepower as well as a 4.0-liter V-8 diesel. Other options will likely include a 6.3-liter V-8 with 600 horsepower and a 6.5-liter twin-turbo V-12.

Bells and whistles, as expected, will likely include a pedestrian airbag system that would eject from the grille if such an impact is anticipated, and also an advanced crash avoidance system and an estimated sixteen airbags!

You can get a good idea as to the new S-Class styling here, or you can wait until next March for its official introduction at the Geneva Motor Show.

So if the 6.3 liter NA engine makes 600+ HP (used for AMG models), how much HP should the 6.5 liter biturbo engine make? Certainly it will be making a ton more torque.

i wonder how the power will be dealt with in a responsible (read: gas mileage) manor? considering the 7 speed cant handle the torque, how can there be reasonable fuel economy and such rediculous amounts of power?

When I think twin-turbo V12 reasonable fuel economy doesn't really come to mind.

Simply, there wont be reasonable fuel economy with these cars.

but i wouldnt expect it to be less than 12mpg, i know when you buy a 600hp car youre buying speed not practicality but its not a race car, it cant be 9/13 mpg city/highway.

I don't know... I think the final version will also have a certain sexiness to it. I like the more aggressive look of the new front.

That thing's gonna be REAL nice. It's to close to the Maybach though, IMO. The Maybach should be on a whole 'nother level... but the S's styling comes to close for that.

Mercedes-Benz hypes hybrid power for next-generation S-Class - - Source: Autoweek

Mercedes-Benz will offer a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain in its next-generation S-Class. The hybrid will likely debut a year from now at the Frankfurt motor show.

Mercedes-Benz’s latest hybrid powertrain, previewed at this year’s Detroit show, uses a V6 gasoline engine
and two electric motors sending power to the rear wheels. In the S-Class, the likely V6 will be the 272-hp 3.5-liter
V6 from the new SLK, combined with electric motors.

Mercedes is also experimenting with a diesel-electric system combining a turbo-diesel engine with a 68-hp electric motor.

Other Mercedes models are also expected to offer hybrid drive, including next year’s second-generation
M-Class and the new R-Class.

BMW plans to counter M-B’s hybrid plans with a hydrogen-powered 7 Series it will unveil at the Paris motor show next month.

Now that's something. Great move by MB. I hope they're able to launch the system without any glitches. If the gas/electric combo makes 275hp (gas) plus the 68hp (electric) then I think it'll be a success. It puts the hp rating right in the thick of the competition, with better fuel economy. Maybe MB's marketing dept. will play head games with the public, calling it the S"500" something, because it'll have V8 performance, even though it'll have a V6, like Lexus is doing with the RX400h.

Think BMW is going to take another hit since they went with hydrogen instead of electric. How many places are really going to have hydrogen, meanwhile electric is worldwide and allows mercedes to cash in immediately.

I agree. But what they'll do is what Nissan did. License the tech from Toyota or someone else and pay the price but at least have competitive product to sell.

Sadly, that's a fake. I think the bumper is chopped on.

Yeah, I see that Bangle Butt too. More Maybach influence, though, so it's not as abrupt and severe. I can't wait for this car... It's gonna be a beast on the road. I think it'll bury the 7 unless Bimmer's restyle is just fanatastic.

I like how each new version of S-Class is less bulky than previous (unlike the recent BMWs)

^hehehe, I think so to. The current one definitely buries the 7. As I said, the Maybach's influence shines through. With the beautiful job Benz did on the new CLS, I have alot of confidence in them right now.
