these cars could threaten 200 mph. the only things that will limit them are drag and, well, speed limiters.

BREAKING NEWS! Hot! New S-class spyshots in... - - Source: www.autospies.com
Codenamed W221, these 2006 S Class test cars undergoing cold weather testing have just a smidgen of camouflage hiding a handful of details.
The seventh-generation S Class measures in larger than today’s version, and will offer a new lineup of engines including V6 and V8 offerings, and an all-new 3.0-liter V6 diesel with over 230-horsepower, as well as a 4.0-liter V8 diesel. Other options will likely include a 6.3-liter V8 with 600-horsepower and a 6.5-liter twin-turbo V12.
Bells and whistles, as expected, will likely include pedestrian air bags which would eject from the grille if it senses such an impact, as well as an advanced crash avoidance system and an estimated sixteen airbags!
You can get a good idea as to the new S Class styling here, or you can wait until next fall for its official introduction, probably at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

If the V8 will make 600HP, I am guessing the V12 will make at least 650HP. But with a ton more torque than the V8 since now AMG is switching to the NA solution for some of their engines.
Mercedes will not back down from the HP wars. They want to be at the top like Nissan/Infiniti in their respective class.

The outputs on some of these engines are amazing. But Benz won't win all of the hp wars... the new 3.5L's making around 272 in the C and E, while Infiniti's coming with atleast 280hp.

Dammnn, I like the looks of it. The Maybach rear isn't as bad as I thought it'd be. But they could have done more with the tailamps for sure. The quad pipes and wheels look great. I even like the strong creases over the front and rear fenders. Gives off a very muscular feel. I look forward to seeing the interior.

Looks nice. They really need to hit a home run with this car. MB already has the engines and the designs right, they just need to work on their reliability some more.

I like the current S-Class's look over this one. We've seen hints of that for a while, and I was just hoping it wasn't true. But at this point, it most likely is.

Previous Gen. Mercedes S-Class News **Last one rolled off assembly line (page 2)**
The source of this is not that reliable so I wont quote it, but there are rumors that Mercedes will offer an S350 version of its S-class lineup with the 3.7 liter V6 from the ML350 (that's a different engine from the one used in the SLK350) for an MSRP of about $65,600.
Rumored specs are:
Power: 241 hp @ 5,800 rpm
Torque: 258 lb-ft @ 3,000 to 4,500 rpm
Acceleration: 0 - 60 mph in 7.6 seconds
Fuel economy EPA estimate: 17 mpg
Highway estimate: 25 mpg
Needless to say, Mercedes has been offering versions of its S Class in Europe with many smaller engines, the USA market does not "receive", but this is a peculiar move from the company in my opinion, one that I believe is closely related to the company's latest financial performance.

Sure. I don't know if the source you cited above discussed the S350 before or after its NA release, but if it was before he was spot on in the details

Meh, an S class with an NA V6.
I would've rather liked to see an S350 with a turbo diesel making 290+HP and 400+lb-ft of torque that could get around 30MPG.
BTW, I think the 0-60 in 7.6s for the S350 is optimistic since that's what the S430 with 275HP V8 runs.

always thought it was sad those people that just want to get the symbol on the hood and buy the absolute cheapest mercedes or bimmer even though they could get something much better at the same price.
like the 525's i keep seeing. You just paid 45k for a 184 hp car. well done

BTW, I just priced out a fully loaded S350 on the MB site and it came out to a little over $82K! That's a lot of money for a V6, for that kinda cash I'd rather get a nicely equipped Audi A8L, Jaguar XJR, or the new BMW 750i.

Pretty smart move IMO. Especially when they drop the 430 and raise the 350's output up to 270 like the others. Now they are able to get people into an S class cheaper. If the 430's sold well (see tons of them in Atlanta and Orlando), a V6 with better gas mileage and the same hp for $10,000 less will sell pretty damn well.
