That in a under 2800lb car is quite substantial.
I'm sure Miata will get TON of aftermarket support like 86. It's no problem.
And i'm sure this car will be pretty cheap like the previous generations.
Factoring in the mod $, theres nothing that beat ouy these small sports cars between $35-40k.

Anyway, tell him to do k&n filter/header/E85 tune. That's all you need to get it to something like 14/100 easy.

My buddy with an FR-S made +40 whp while staying N/A. I say that's really good considering the low starting output. If only it were easier to modify the valvetrain on a boxer engine.
Seems like Mazda focused on fuel efficiency to fit in with the whole 'Skyactiv' mantra. Strange to have a brand new engine with new tech... and yet have that much of a drop in output.
Once the Mazdaspeed variant is out, I'd probably cut myself open to retrieve a kidney. But for now, I'm not too interested. Still in disbelief that they shed that much weight, good on Mazda. I like everything they make, even the Mazda5

250??? stroker kit? ITB?
It is hard to believe that he can squeeze 50whp without some major surgery to an engine that has pretty much maxed out.

Source: Mazda Teams Up With Xbox, Forza For 2016 MX-5 Miata Livery Competition
The 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata is nearly here, in the real world, but soon it'll be adding to the fanfare of its launch with a special role in the virtual world of Forza Horizon 2.
Mazda, Forza, and Xbox want players to design a livery for the in-game car--which is the 1994 Miata, rather than the new car. A panel of judges will then narrow the field down to the top two choices. Those lucky two contestants will be flown to South by Southwest, where they will go head-to-head for the top spot.
The winner? He or she gets a pretty sweet prize package. No, it's not a 2016 MX-5 (come on Mazda, that would've been awesome!), but rather a 55-inch curved TV, home audio system, Xbox One Kinect console, and a driving setup with a MadCatz Racing Wheel (okay, that's pretty sweet too).
This Miata styling contest runs from now through January 4th, 2015. If you have the game and you're handy with the in-game design system, now's your chance to turn your virtual skill into one that pays off in the real world.

Agreed!
A 2.0L with 13.0:1 compression only puts out 155hp? That's shitty. The k20 was putting out 220 hp at a lower compression. Ten years ago.

From here, we have some numbers on HP and torque: First Drive: 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata | Driving
Apparently, it's 155HP with 148 lb/feet of torque. FYI.

Sounds like it's 'sufficient' form the couple reviews I've read (though they were all driving the 1.5l model).
Maybe it'll be like the FRS/BRZ & be better to drive than the numbers make it out to be.
The Miata/MX5 never was about power (MSM excluded), IMO & pretty much every one I've driven, across the first 3 generations, has had that go-kart feel that makes it a really fun little car.
I, for one, can't wait for them to start hitting the lot so I can check one out.

Featured with aero kit, BBS wheels & Brembo brakes.

I snagged the photos from an article. Chicago is a bit far from Houston to swing in for the auto show.
Love the black aero kit on the white car

Weight Revealed
Hidden alongside this morning’s announcement of the new fourth-generation Mazda MX-5’s arrival in a free-to-download Forza Horizon 2 pack is some even better news: the actual curb weight numbers for the new Miata.
So how much does it weigh? With the manual transmission, it tips the scales at a feathery 2,332 pounds; opt for the auto and you’ll tilt just a touch higher at 2,381 pounds. It's possible to get a third-generation car below those weights in fully-equipped, streetable form, but it's neither inexpensive nor easy--and the same treatment would yield even better results on the new fourth-generation car.
This is pretty much dead-on Mazda’s previously announced 150-pound weight savings over the third-generation MX-5, and makes the new ND MX-5 one of the lightest new cars available in America—and certainly the lightest sports car. With 155 hp and 148 lb-ft from its 2.0-liter SkyActiv four-cylinder, it should prove plenty peppy, too.
For many an enthusiast, light makes right, especially since you can always add power later—a turbo kit is much easier to add than weight is to delete.
Some may have hoped for an even lighter car—one closer to the original MX-5’s sub-2,100-lb curb weight—but in light of today’s pedestrian impact laws, crash testing, and high-tech consumer demands, it’s a remarkable job of engineering.

Limited Edition of 1000 units:
Base pricing starts at $25k, just about $1k over the 2015.
Which means the MX5 Club should start around $28k. Wondering how much the BBS/Brembo package is going to add to it.
Based on the premium MX-5 Grand Touring, all Launch Edition MX-5s will feature a Soul Red exterior color with a Sport Tan leather interior. This color combination will be exclusive to the Launch Edition for 2016. The models also features 17-inch alloy wheels, heated seats, automatic climate control, SiriusXM satellite radio, Mazda Connect Infotainment System with navigation and a Bose nine-speaker audio system.

Didn't get a good look due to it being dark & raining, but I spotted a soul red 2016 MX-5 on the back of a transport Friday night.

The pricing has been announced. Nothing much has been changed from NC. Similar pricing. Just a much better car now.

Thats just for the "launch edition", the base Sport trim starts at $24,915 (MT). You're only $6k off of the actual starting price.

That, or hope there isn't any ridiculous market adjustment BS on a new one & talk it down from there.
Personally, I'm hoping to not have to wait until 2017 to have one in my garage.

I wouldn't personally buy the launch edition, but it does look sharp.
Tomorrow, official first day of 'sales'. Deposits will be taken on the launch edition cars.
