The Maserati MC12 is the road-going Grand Tourer version of the company’s GT racer. Styled by Giugiaro based on an idea from Ferrari/Maserati design chief Frank Stephenson, MC12’s bodywork is all carbon fiber, including its removable hard top, and rides on an all-aluminum chassis. The car is powered by a mid-mounted 630-hp 6.0-liter V12 linked to a six-speed paddle-shifted auto-manual gearbox. Maserati says it will build about 25 copies for road use, and five more for the racing program. In 2005, they’ll build another 25.

Maserati Feeding Need for Speed - - - The Car Connection
Even as it prepares to launch the third new model in its lineup, the Quattroporte sedan, Maserati has rolled out a fourth product, though getting one won't be easy. The MC12 is the name chosen for both the new Maserati race car, and a street-legal version featuring a 6.0-liter V-12, dubbed the MC12 Stradale. It's rated to top 205 mph, and will launch from 0-100 km/h (0-62.5 mph) in 3.8 seconds. Company officials report they've already sold all 25 Stradales, each at 600,000 euros. But Maserati insiders report there's a good chance a second batch of MC12s will now be offered up. Though street legal in Europe, the road-ready racers will not pass federal standards in the States. Even so, several Americans are believed to be among the buyers.

For whatever it's worth, Clarkson, after test driving the car himself, he did predict that this MC12 would be faster/quicker around the track than the Enzo (before they tested the MC12 on their track of course). And he was right. For once
In addition to that, Clarkson did not like the MC12 overall. Paraphrasing, he called it, a car that does not know what it is, what it wants to be. A car with no identity.

That's not why I think they're biased but it's a start.

Bugatti Beater? Maserati Unveils $1.275 Million MC12 Corsa - - Source: Edmunds.com
MODENA, Italy — Maserati is hoping to climb into the uber-car pantheon with the new MC12 Corsa, which the Fiat affiliate describes as a build-to-order, track-only model based on its MC12 GTI racecar.
Available starting this fall, Maserati will build only 12 cars in total, each with a price tag of a million Euros ($1,275,000), plus tax. The sticker rivals that of the Bugatti Veyron, but there's one twist: Maserati has no plans to homologate the MC12 Corsa for road use or motorsports.
Instead, the automaker says the car is aimed at a select number of clients "who will enjoy the possibility to test their driving capability in the most exclusive gentlemen drivers' environment" — that is, for exclusive use during private track sessions or at Maserati exhibitions.
The Ferrari Enzo-based MC12 Corsa has another key difference from the Veyron, and that's engine output. Where the Bugatti's turbocharged W16 engine makes a ridiculous 1001 horsepower, the 6.0-liter V12 in the Maserati delivers a modest 755 hp through a Cambiocorsa gearbox. The two-place MC12 Corsa features a carbon-fiber monocoque and weighs a mere 2,535 pounds. It rides on 18-inch wheels and tires, and is fitted with Brembo racing brakes.
Maserati said the customer can individually tailor the car to his or her taste, with the opportunity to personalize the vehicle from a limited option list. The exterior palette includes the official Maserati color, called Blue Victory, and a range of other hues, available upon client request.
What this means to you: In terms of performance, it's no Bugatti, but the new MC12 Corsa offers even greater exclusivity than the tony Veyron.
