Looks like we will see a coupe and a convertible version of the IS300 coupe in 2004. Nice.

It is highly unlikely that a coupe will turn up this generation. The current platform is in its 3rd NAM model year and in its 5th JDM model year. The earliest one might turn up is MY2006, but it will neither be an "IS" nor a "300", nor likely look very much like the current IS300.

That pic is at least 2 years old. This iteration of the IS will be sedan/sportcross only.

The next gen will model the 3 series. Sedan/coupe/convert. Sportcross will be dropped. IS 430 not a go either.

Lexus says a Coupe version is quite probable for the IS300 - for the 2006 redesign. But we won't see a Coupe version before hand.

lexus is becoming as boring as the toyota brand, like they've taken the spot as the official old mans car.

Well, the ES 300/LS 430/RX 300 caters to those people, yes. The IS/GS/RX 330 caters to people not as boring. Lexus is no more boring than Acura, or Infiniti or Audi.

2004 Lexus IS Pictures From Japan

For those of you waiting for a legit picture of the 2004 Toyota Altezza, also known as the Lexus IS 300 in the states, then wait no longer. Below is a picture of the new Altezza/IS that is set to hit Japan in the Fall of 2004. Not only will Japan lose the famous 2.0 liter engine, but they will gain two new engines that will help push the car's sporty image.

The car will share one engine with the new Aristo, known as the Lexus GS in the states. They will come with a 3.5 liter V6 engine in Japan. The engine code is 453F and the specs are as follows: 280hp @ 6400 rpm, 238 lb-ft @ 4000. Also, there will be a smaller V6 with a displacement of 2.5 liters available for the new Altezza.

Other rumors for the IS that is bound to appear in the states is that they will come out with a 3.3 liter-V6, meaning that Lexus is saying goodbye to the inline. The hybrid is also rumored to come equipped with AWD, just like it's big brother, the GS.

I think I like the current IS better, with more angular sharp edges. But I won't complain about the new 3.5L.

I know owning a Lexus is about the details but IMO, they shouldn't even bother with the IS until the next model.

Gotta love that new oil maintenance light (which is not a bad idea but seems more in place in a SUV than a sport sedan)

Confirmed! Lexus IS gets 4.3 liter V8 this fall

By AUTOWEEK

The traditional definition of a muscle car is a smaller car given the engine of a bigger car. Well, Lexus has a smaller car, the IS 300, and it has a nice engine from a bigger car, the 4.3-liter V8. Voilà: muscle car.

Lexus has tapped Rod Millen to assemble its IS 430 muscle car, which should be completed this fall. The V8 will not be supercharged or turbocharged but will get enough massaging to put out 350 to 360 hp, with the emphasis on “street driveability.”

The power will run through a Getrag six-speed manual to a drivetrain upgraded to handle the extra power. The car also gets bigger brakes and 18-inch wheels.

Is this a production tease? We hope so. Word is the engine requires only an extra three-quarters of an inch of hood space to fit, a clearance that could easily be accommodated.

Finally! lexus finally opened their eyes to a new segment in the market, which bases on their already noticable quality should easily take market share from other car manufacteurs. Now if only acura would do the same, Honda/Acura don't seem to car much about producing oversized engines for cars. I'm sure if lexus has a good showing with the IS V8 then Acura will be more inclined to jump into the water also
