Lambo Gallardo preproduction model tested and it's SLOW!
Again MotorTrend testing a preproduction exotic.
Numbers:
0-60 in 4.7 seconds
1/4 mile = 13.08 @ 109.89 mph
That's barely quicker than a base C5.
MotorTrend says the conditions were "less than ideal". Did not describe what that meant though. It did not look like rain on the photos. They promised another test later this year.
Braking was at 114 feet (from 60mph)
Engine is 5 liter V10
Power: 495HP @ 7800 rpm
Torque: 376 pounds at 4500 rpm
That's 99.8 HP per liter
Base Price: $166K
Price as tested: $172K

It's interesting to see that USAmerican exotics show better quality control than exotic Italians on a pre-production basis (Ford GT performance better than expected - Gallardo performance worse than expected). The world has changed...

GM and Ford may have the biggest balls in the US, but internationally, Ferrari is one to be contended with. Do you know how much money Ferrari pays M. Schumacher to race in Formula1?....roughly $60 million a year. And that is just to pay one race car driver. I understand that it costs them over $300 million to run two cars for the F1 season. Ford is currently running a Jaguar team, but I insist that they are not throwing around the kind of money that Ferrari is.
Nothing personal, but I just could not let that statement go uncontested.

prinker... that doesn't mean that Ferrari has more money than Ford.
Ferrari allocates a fuckload of their money towards Formula 1... its not like their throwing their excess cash at it.
As for Lamborghini... they are owned by Volkswagen Group.... another insanely wealthy auto company.
Its sorta like... you own a CLS right, maybe your neighbor owns a Focus. Does that mean you have more money than him? No.

bsprinker I am sorry but there is simply no comparison between Ferrari and Ford financially. Although it would be no surprise that from a FINANCIAL HEALTH perspective Ferrari is currently on top as compared to Ford (Ford has been in financial trouble for a few years now and there is the remote possibility of Chapter 11 for them).
But if we are talking on a revenue basis, there is just no comparison.
Just a reference. Ferrari is owned by Fiat. Fiat is 20% owned by GM. GM has a put option to completely acquire Fiat in the next 2 years. GM and Ford are comparable on a financial basis.
GM and Ford are in the top 10 largest companies in the world from a revenue basis, regardless of sector! They are collosal.

There is a guy on Ferrarichat who has a 360 spider and decided to test drive the Gallardo, thought about trading the 360.
End result, he absolutely hated the car....wasn't comfortable in it (lot of people have this complaint), thought it felt disconnected from the road, some other issues as well.
For $170k, I wouldn't buy a Gallardo.

Gallardo Drop-top Ups Ante - - Source: Autoexpress
A more extreme version of the yet-to-be-launched Lamborghini Gallardo drop-top is in development, Auto Express has learned.
Inspired by the Murciélago Roadster the project has yet to get the go-ahead from company bosses. However, insiders tell us it's been proposed in response to the race-bred F360 Stradale from Ferrari.
There's also news on the standard Gallardo convertible, pictures of which were first seen in issue 758. It's expected to cost £120,000 and, as with the coupé, will sport a 500bhp, V10 engine and six-speed, semi-automatic gearbox.
Lamborghini has also revealed plans to build a limited run of road-going versions of the Murciélago R-GT competition car unveiled at last autumn's Frankfurt Motor Show. Collectors will get the chance to buy the supercar, which will vary little from the carbon-bodied racer. Ferrari's Enzo had better watch out!

Lamborghini Gallardo News **Gets Track Pack**
Gallardo gets track pack - - Source: Autocar
Lamborghini has reacted to the threat posed by Ferrari’s new F430 by developing a ‘track pack’ for its Gallardo. Aimed at reducing the car’s tendency to understeer, the pack consists of ultra-sticky Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres, a new sports suspension option and a new steering pump oil cooler, recognising the fact that the pump oil can boil during heavy use.
Although the development doesn’t include any performance upgrades, insiders have revealed that the company is also working on upping the V10’s power from its current 492bhp.

Next Gen. Lamborghini Gallardo News
Spy Shots: ’07 Lamborghini Gallardo - - No bull—well, maybe a restyled one - - By Hans Lehmann/Hidden Image - - Source: The Car Connection
The Lamborghini Gallardo has been on the market since March 2003.
Now parent company Audi is apparently preparing a restyling of the high performance mid-engine all-wheel-drive sports car.
As can be seen on the photos, taken at the Nürburgring, the test car has different air intakes on its flanks. Rumors from the track say the current 5.0-liter 40-valve V-10 (500 hp) is going to be upgraded to some degree.

Due to AWD and its weight, this car needs a lot more power than now. Also the gear ratios, especially first, need to be significantly shortened. I've heard 1st goes to almost 70mph.
