Jeep Grand Cherokee plant produces 5 millionth vehicle
Chrysler's Jefferson North Assembly Plant, or JNAP for short, celebrated a major milestone on Tuesday as the factory produced its 5 millionth vehicle.
Opened in January in 1992 to build the first-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee, the plant's 5 millionth vehicle was appropriately a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The milestone-setting vehicle, a Grand Cherokee Overland model finished in Billet Silver, was celebrated with a small ceremony.
“Twenty-one years ago, the first Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled off this assembly line and while it was questionable whether we would ever make it to this point, the people in this plant never lost their focus,” Scott Garberding, Chrysler Group’s Senior Vice President of Manufacturing, said. “Certainly many things have changed over the years, but one thing has remained constant – the dedication and commitment of this workforce.”
Chrysler plans to donate the milestone Jeep to the USO.
Covering 3 million square feet, JNAP is currently running three crews, working two 10 hour shifts, six days a week. The plant's 4,500 workers produced 291,403 vehicles last year.
In addition to the Jeep Grand Cherokee, JNAP also builds the Dodge Durango. Between 2005-2010 the facility also produced the Jeep Commander, a vehicle current Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne famously called “unfit for human consumption.”

5 million
...and @ Jeep Commander "unfit for human consumption".
Marchionne was right about the Commander.

And my 97 JGC has about 130k on it now. Still like it a lot.
I wonder if will come close to the 215k my pathfinder had when I sold it.

A friend has one that I've been in a few times. It's really not that bad...but it was not a big sales success, and I'm guessing the other guys making big SUVs at the time did a better job.

If they make the Grand Wagoneer like the current Jeep Grand Cherokee, it's gonna be something very special.

I REALLY like the Durango. I loved having one as a rental...I would still take one over the Highlander we have now, which I also like.
And yeah...its gonna be an expensive bitch.

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Gets Power Boost
From here: http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...ts-power-boost
Despite the repositioning of SRT as an official tuner to Dodge, the awesome JeepGrand Cherokee SRT isn’t going anywhere and to really send the message home the performance SUV has been given a power boost for the latest model year. Yes, our favorite Jeep muscles into 2015 with output from its 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 rising to 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, up from the 2014 model’s 470 hp and 465 lb-ft.
The engine remains mated to an eight-speed paddle-shifted automatic transmission, and with the pedal floored the SUV will rocket to 60 mph from rest in just 4.8 seconds. The quarter mill time is in the mid-13s and top speed is 160 mph. The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT also has incredible stopping power, needing just 116 feet to stop from 116 mph. And in case you were wondering, the 0-100-0 mph run will take you just 16.3 seconds.
In addition to more power, the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee also gets an Active Noise Canceling system. Using the vehicle audio system and four microphones located in the cabin, the system helps reduce outside noise, allowing for a more relaxing and refined ride.
The final change worth mentioning is the introduction of a new Red Vapor special edition model. This model gets a number of distinct exterior and interior touches and is available in three different colors: Redline Red Pearl Clear Coat, Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat and Bright White Clear Coat. Special touches include 20-inch Goliath-style wheels, gloss black detailing, backlit SRT logos, cabin accents in red, and a custom engine cover.
All Grand Cherokee SRTs come with Pirelli tires (either Scorpion Verde all-season or available Pirelli P Zero three-season), Brembo brakes (six-piston up front and four-piston in the rear), Selec-Track adjustable suspension with Bilstein dampers, and a 7,200-lb towing capacity.
Sadly, there are no plans for a Grand Cherokee SRT Hellcat.

Link for proof? There has been NO mention of this anywhere.
In fact with Dodge re-absorbing SRT, the Jeep SRT was going bye bye...potentially to be rebadged the TrackHawk.

yeah I am seeing the Trackhawk name being thrown around.
I don't know exactly what this is about - what prompted me was this update my friend made on FB, he owns a high end dealership and I take his word here - Could it be some under-the-cover hush hush pre-order thing going on behind the scenes?

Right now...I don't believe it.
I have not seen a single word, post, link, photo or otherwise regarding this vehicle...not to mention there is currently no 2015 Jeep SRT to order.
And chryslers order banks don't work like that...there is a specific ordering window for models
Until I read otherwise from actual reliable mopar sources, I call BS.

What I don't believe is that dealer orders have been made, seeing how the vehicle hasn't even been announced and order banks open at specific times with chrysler. Especially how Chryco likes to stay tight lipped about their product.
That and the SRT namesake is likely done for Jeep, to replaced with TrackHawk or something else.

So...youve gone from posting some rather sketchy info as fact...to backpedaling...to posting a high res picture (of nothing) and dropping the mic, go boom.
I mean wow...please, tell me Jesus will arise this year from his cave because who could ever doubt you right now?

Again...Genius. No one is denying there will be a Jeep with the Hellcat...I fully expect it.
But I don't believe for a SECOND...anyone has ordered one...especially since it hasn't even been officially announced or acknowledged by ANY reputable mopar club, website, or corporate. And order banks never open until a product has been announced and then a specific date is given for orders.
The ONLY thing that has been mentioned in the last several months is that the Jeep SRT might become the Track Hawk. And thats it. Because at the moment...no one knows the fate of the Jeep SRT...except Dodge and couple people close with their corporate.

If and when we see a Trackhawk or SRT...I'll put money down there will a unique front fascia to accommodate the intercoolers and added air intake/cooling intakes that the Challenger and Charger have with their respective hellcat versions.

Actually, if you read and kept up with this thread, you'll note that just a few posts above my initial post mentioning the Hellcat possibility, there is a post that says:
Sadly, there are no plans for a Grand Cherokee SRT Hellcat.

all I said in my initial post was "supposedly". after that I made it clear that I was not sure what the real story was.

Ok...so take the Hellcat off the table.
The only thing mentioned on the SRT website is the 2014 SRT...there hasn't even been a mentioned of a 2015 (they are most likely skipping this year or killing the Jeep SRT) let alone talk of a 2016 model.
Where again, the rumor is, if they do move ahead with a 392 Jeep it will be renamed...potentially to Trackhawk.
And again...no order banks are open for a car that hasn't been announced. Order banks are opened when the cars are ready to put into production. And there is no way a vehicle that hasn't been announced and isn't ready to be built has open order banks.
So, Hellcat...392....whatever...I still call BS on any 2016 models being ordered.
