Maybe Lexus sees the IS350 as the direct competitor to the 330i. Then there would not be a need for an IS300.
We'll see...

With 330HP in the G37? a G30? with about 240-250HP makes sense. The problem is - what current drivetrain can Nissan whore out into a G30?

The rumors call for 400HP which makes a V8 Gxx go head to head with the next generation M3 from a power standpoint at least.
The next thought then is: will there be a V8 Lexus IS? I say yes to that also.

2. I dont think there will be a current drivetrain. Probably a new one.

The 330-340HP rumored for the coupe are probably there due to the fact that the Coupe IS350 will probably make more than 306HP. That's my guess at least.

BMW can very easily rebadge the current 325 to 328 and bump the HP a bit and claim it a new model without doing much.
2. Nissan is the king of drivetrain whoring - they either have something in the parts bin to use or something new is around the corner that will eventually make its way into a lot of vehicles. I would have assumed that if it was the latter was true we would have heard something by now - hence my guess they are going to try something with the former.

So in BMW fashion just 2 years into the model run (even less for the GS) they can claim a new model and spur sales.

Of course, with regard to the 325, looking at the acceleration times, this thing is nowhere near underpowered with this new generation. I dont know if the engine is SEVERLY underrated or some other reason, but even Motorweek (notoriously slow with their acceleration times) had the AUTO 325 do 7.2 secs for the 60 and the manual did it in 6.7 seconds. That's AUTO CLS times for the latter. Very impressive when one looks at the power/weight ratio of that thing.

I dont doubt it. As long as the price is not moved by much.

I'm thinking the same thing... Probably will be looking for another coupe soon, but with a new G, 3 series coupe, and maybe an IS coupe out in the near future, I'm going to have to hold off for a couple of years...

Shoulda bought it when it first came out, its initial hotness made up for not having the interior refresh/ slight power update/ bugs worked out a few years later. Now history will repeat itself, another powerful coupe with ok interior will be introduced at the 06 auto shows, refreshed in 09 with a better interior and more power, what to do?

I am also awaiting the arrival of the coupes. Even the one from Audi.

Infiniti knows it's going to have some catching up to do. i remember when the 1st Gen G35 came out, and how it was the closest competator to the 3 Series. I believe it was faster at the time off the line. If they use M Series materials with the sportiness already bred into it, this thing will be a winner.

Yep... that's it right thur. The image is also on Freshalloy. If the car winds up looking like that, it's as good as bought. It keeps what's hot about the car (size, proportion, general design), and improves on it's looks; evolving the G look while bringing closer to the M (without making a clone of it). And here, the mag mentions the 3.7L VQ. I hope the interior looks as good. The hardtop coupe is much needed. The GTR will be fixed top only; the new 3 coupe is a hardtop; and the Z will continue with a rag top (so the models will remain very different). Go for it, Infiniti.

Am I the only person not to believe any of these Japanese car mags? It's like the National Inquirer set up shop in the automotive industry.

I don't buy them either - they rarely get it right. That said Autospies is normally pretty close, and they posted that picture of the sedan last week....
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
