Hyundai: Tiburon news
#288
I'm Down Right Fierce!
For those that are following the release of the 2010 Tiburon (for people like me), go pick up the November issue of Road and Track and turn to the "Ampersand" article page 25. There's a picture of the 2010 Tiburon front unveiled.
According to Road & Track:
"Looking to shed the image that it just builds cheaper knockoffs of Japense competitors, Hyundai will aim its Tiburon at the heart of the American pony-car market by switching the current FWD to a RWD configuration derived from its new Genesis Flagship sedan. This short wheelbase version of the Genesis will result in a larger coupe that is more Ford Mustang tna Mitsubishi Eclipse.
The changes will extend under the hood where the current 2.0-liter four and 2.7-liter six would be supplanted by a base 3.8 liter v-6 and an optional 4.6-liter V-8. A turbo 2.0-liter four would likely be added to the mix, primarily for use in the overseas market."
Again I ask, where are the people laughing at Hyundai?

Damn son. Coulda had a V8!
But seriously, I'll believe that when I see it. I'm pretty sure Hyundai brass has already gone on record saying there wont be one (in the coupe)
This car is supposed to be at the Los Angeles show. I have to admit its in my top 2 or 3 "must see" new cars. I just hope they dont call it "Tiburon" though

Does the tail lights remind anyone of the G37? Cause when I saw the picture, I was asking myself, why are they still testing the G37?
It's not a guarantee that they'll use a V8. But if they do offer it, I still wouldn't buy a Hyundai.

BUT, Hyundai has slowly been changing my opinion... The Sonata is a great car, and I definitely would consider buying a RWD V8 coupe from Hyundai.

i think hyundai is doing a great job of that. can't expect everyone to think hyundais are great cars now. it's unrealistic. but they know what they're doing and what they want to do.
it's pretty remarkable to see how far they've come because i remember when their cars were pos vehicles. hondas and toyotas came out before i was born so i haven't seen the growth and maturation of their vehicles in my lifetime.

I was never laughing. It's inevitable that they will start beating the Japanese.
I was in an Azera last Thursday. I was really surprised how well it ran and build quality was amazing.

Got da Internet Goin Nutz
Does look great!
It looks like this is a set up from a consumer survey thing. Notice how all of the badging is covered with tape for both cars. I did the same thing for the Lincoln truck a few years back.

Some initial reported specs....
- 2.0 Liter Turbo will have 215HP 217TRQ. Price starting at $19,900.
- 3.8 Liter V6 will have 300HP and 280 TRQ. Price starting at $25,900.
Features:
Ipod integration in center console.
Bluetooth w/ stock head deck.
Sunroof.
Limited slip.
Marketing will tell if it:
MIGHT have Brembo brake upgrades.
MIGHT have its own badge. (Tuscani for example)
It keeps the LED turn signals on the side mirrors.

To bad it doesn't have the V8 in it (maybe a future version will)... but with a 300hp v6, it looks like it's right there spec wise with the 'stang...
Wonder what the weight and MPG will be...
I'll have to add the Tiburon to my shopping list. I think a 20K RWD car would work for me...
