I mean it looks good for the most part. Dafuq @ the chrome strips along the hood and that hipster mustache though?

Never did care for the chrome strip down the fender/hood join. Always has looked off to me. Current-gen has it too
I think it'd look a bit better without it.

Profile is similar to the Azera/Grandeur from a couple of generations ago.
The Azera had that connected tailights thing for ages.
Basic same design for the last Azera and the latest Grandeur (which never made it here).
And really don't think people are going to mistake the Sonata's taillights for the Civic's.
More apt to mistake it for the Polestar 2's taillights.
Jaguar, Mercedes, Buick, Toyota, Honda/Acura, etc.

I really like it for the most part (need to see it in person to be sure though). What is really stunning is the massive upgrade in tech there seems to be inside. A full LCD gauge cluster with a massive center display in a SONATA??? That's some serious upscale feel right there (minus the hideous steering wheel). I thought the new Accord and Mazda 6 Signature were surprising interior upgrades but this new Sonata interior looks more like something out of a MB.

Hmmm I don't know, the interior picture shows a lot of hard/cheap plastic. the the center console area and middle A/C vents. In the Accord and Mazda6, the same areas are either faux wood trim or stitched leatherette. Those gear selectors look awfully family....from Honda/Acura....

We caught our first glimpse of the 2020 Hyundai Sonata earlier this month, but at the time Hyundai only released a handful of images. Now, as the car is slowly making its way to the hands of the media and public, we're able to get a fuller look at the new Sonata’s dramatic styling.
The car boasts a fastback body style similar to that of an Audi A5 Sportback, an interior that looks upscale and, most importantly, a sedan body. The shrinking sedan segment has opened the door for Hyundai to capture customers from manufacturers giving up on cars.
From the front, Hyundai designers added a striking, massive daytime running light that blends into the chrome beltline trim. The design team also fit the new Sonata with a huge, fish-mouth-like grille that’s bound to be one of the most polarizing design choices.
At the rear, the design team continued its push with creative lighting. The taillights look like a blend of Honda Civic hatchback and modern Lincoln design elements. While that might sound like the Hyundai team is borrowing ideas, it's more that everything has been done. Hyundai has put together a cohesive design that, sure, might be reminiscent of other cars.
We'll bring you driving impressions of the new Hyundai Sonata soon; in the meantime, enjoy the photos.

Hyundai introduced its all-new 2020 Sonata at the 2019 New York International Auto Show, marking the North American debut of Hyundai's longest-standing and most successful model. The eighth-generation Hyundai Sonata is unlike any of its predecessors, showcasing Hyundai's Sensuous Sportiness design philosophy, an all-new Smartstream G2.5 GDI engine and segment-first technology that can be personalized. Production of the 2020 Sonata starts in September at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama and retail sales begin in October 2019.
"Sonata is our signature product," said Mike O'Brien, vice president, product, corporate and digital planning, Hyundai Motor America. "Having been one of our first and most successful nameplates, Sonata is our legacy, and it needs to be special and memorable in all attributes. Sonata signifies our vision for future Hyundai designs, great active safety systems and cutting-edge technology that is effortless."
The new-generation Hyundai Sonata is the first sedan designed with Hyundai's Sensuous Sportiness design language. It is a fully transformed vehicle showcasing a sporty four-door-coupe look. The 2020 Sonata represents Hyundai's new focus on creating emotional value using proportion, styling and technology. From the front, the 2020 Sonata is unlike any other Hyundai. The design is all-new, with cues that don't immediately appear Hyundai-like and thus encourage customers to take a second look. The 2020 Hyundai Sonata embodies the evolution of a new Hyundai design theme-a portfolio of vehicles that, like chess pieces on a board, look and behave differently, each with a clear role and function, but together exemplify a cohesive team.
Sonata has a distinct tension on the side, using a harmonious blend of two sharp character lines and pure volumes. Concave and convex forms are also carefully orchestrated to provide a sexy, coupe-like character.
The latest Sonata is the first model to be based on Hyundai's new, innovative vehicle platform, which delivers increased strength and reduced weight to enable improvements in design, safety, efficiency and driving performance. The car uses an extensive application of advanced technologies to boost comfort, convenience and active safety. It is also the first model to premiere a new collaboration with Bose® to deliver an exceptional audio experience to customers.
"The Sonata holds a special significance for our company as one of the longest-standing and most successful models in the global market," said Albert Biermann, president and head of R&D Division, Hyundai Motor Group. "The new-generation Sonata is a fully transformed vehicle packed with advanced personalization technology, a new platform and an array of ADAS technologies. We are confident that our customers will be pleasantly surprised by this innovative new model."

The sleek and sensuous 2020 Hyundai Sonata will have a hybrid version, which is better for the planet and your guilt. Hyundai seems like it wants to experiment with some new tech with it, too. This hybrid will come fitted a solar roof system. Now, where have I heard that one before?
Ah, yes. The Karma Revero, which has a solar roof that is claimed to “power the car.” We found that to be some marketing bullshit, by the way
Hyundai makes no such claim about its solar roof. Instead, it says the roof is meant to “[recharge] the battery to increase travel distance while preventing unnecessary battery discharge,” according to a =RES&category=News&listPageUrl=news]company press release.
Apparently, six hours of daily charging should increase the car’s travel distance by an extra 1,300 km (about 800 miles) per year. No further specifications about the solar roof were offered at this time.
The hybrid Sonata will be powered by a 2.0-liter gasoline engine that will work in conjunction with an electric motor. Total system output will be 192 horsepower.
The idea of a solar roof is neat, but I don’t think anyone should expect it to power the whole car. It should just be something a little extra, something that lets people utilize the roof of their car, which isn’t really doing anything else anyway expect keeping you dry or from getting sunburned. Give it a job!
As we’ve written before, the new Sonata looks fantastic. And now it’s technologically neat, too!

For years, the U.S. market has known Hyundai as a brand that makes good road cars and kind of stops there. The company has been safe, like its longer factory warranties and its tendency to focus on what does well rather than what serves a more niche audience. But Hyundai is becoming more daring by the model, and the driving the Sonata N-Line performance trim doesn’t just emphasize that—it screams it from the lungs of the Sonata’s most powerful engine yet.
The upcoming Sonata N-Line, along with the other sportier variants Hyundai’s introduced recently, are further proof of what Hyundai wants to be: a company that not only makes good cars, but one that also makes good cars.
The Sonata N-Line, when it comes around late next year, willbe the newest addition to Hyundai’s growing lineup of specialty-oriented models. Since 2015 alone, the company has introduced the separate Genesis luxury brand, which even offers a manual transmission in the G70 sedan despite knowing sales would be meager, along with performance N trims and the mid-grade N-Lines at regular Hyundai—variants that, although new, are good enough to challenge performance trims competitors have made for years. Then, there’s the mid-engine, rear-wheel drive RM19 prototype that’s as loud as it is wild.
The N-Line will also be the top of the Sonata lineup in terms of performance, as Hyundai said at the launch of the 2020 Sonata that it doesn’t plan for the car to go “full N.” (Like Honda’s Si versus Type R, or Ford’s ST versus RS, Hyundai’s N-Line presents the step in the middle between the regular model of a car and the full-on performance trim, the N.)
The N-Line Sonata’s engine will make an estimated 290 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, Hyundai said, and will come with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. That’ll make it the most powerful Sonata ever, and far more powerful than any other Sonata Hyundai plans to offer—the other two engines on the car make a rated 180 and 191 HP, meaning it’s a huge jump to the N-Line.
The other main details Hyundai gave on the car were that it would come with 19-inch wheels that aren’t available on other Sonatas, while keeping the same front-drive layout. The prototype for the N-Line is still in camouflage, so at least some styling elements are hidden.
The two regular Sonata engines are almost disappointing next to the car’s new, sportier looks, since hitting the gas pedal is met with some groan and not a lot of go. But the N-Line solves that problem and then some, because next to the 180-HP turbo in the Sonata’s top Limited trim, the N-Line is a rocket.
After only a couple of minutes in what Hyundai called an “early production” prototype of the upcoming car, a few things were evident. It’s fast. It’s fun. It feels as sporty as the Sonata looks, whereas the regular Sonata does not. Its torque steer isn’t at all noticeable, despite the front-wheel drive.
The N-Line feels more planted and far more engaged than the normal model, and it lets a driver choose whether they’d like engine noise fed in through the speakers with a menu option rather than making them pull a fuse to get rid of it. Anyone who wants to fake it has a choice between “minimized,” “normal,” or “enhanced” sound, but it honestly sounds best when it’s off.
The N-Line, overall, just feels good. It feels like the Sonata that its new, more daring look was designed for, and it feels like yet another win for Hyundai in its pursuit of being a brand that does more than just make good cars. It feels like a win for Hyundai, a brand that makes good cars.
And we all know the difference.

Hyundai has come SO DAMN FAR in so little time. The powertrains, designs, materials, everything have come sooooo damn far.
They've been producing quality cars since like 2007 but it's like every generation is 10X better than the previous one.

Hyundais and Kias used to be the cars I would avoid at the rental car lots. Nowadays, they're my car of choice because even the base rental grade models are loaded with so much standard stuff and the overall feel of them is far more premium than the rental grade Nissans, GMs, Fords, and VWs.

Saw a new Sonata on the commute this morning. Overall, looks ok, did not like the front at all. Maybe a darker color (this one was white & quite dirty) would look better.

Hyundai has released pricing for the 2021 Sonata N Line, and the new sporty variant stickers for $34,195 (including a $995 destination charge). That makes the N Line it the second-most-expensive version of the Sonata, trailing the top-spec Limited by $650.
Equipment-wise the N Line appears to track closely with the 1.6T SEL Plus trim level ($29,195) but adding several items from that model's option package, including a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25" touchscreen with navigation, and LED interior lighting. Other N Line standard features include a digital instrument cluster, phone-as-key capability, wireless device charging and Dinamica and Nappa leather seating surfaces for the N Line's sport seats.
Of course, the N Line's defining features are its mechanical upgrades. Those start with the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine with 290 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque (against 180 horsepower and 195 lb-ft for the 1.6-liter turbo and 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft for the base 2.5-liter engine). The N Line's 2.5 turbo is paired with a dual-wet-clutch eight-speed automatic, and the powertrain features rev-matching and launch control. The chassis includes larger brake rotors and upgraded pads, stiffer engine and transmission mounts, retuned dampers and bushings and higher spring rates.
N Line design elements are fairly restrained — certainly compared to the be-winged Toyota Camry TRD — with restyled front and rear fascias, a rear spoiler and a special gloss-black grille texture. The side mirrors and window trim are also gloss-black. Unique 19-inch wheels, LED taillights and quad exhaust outlets complete the picture. That Camry TRD, however, is a couple grand cheaper.
We drove a pre-production version of the Sonata N Line and came away impressed. It will be interesting to see how many Sonata buyers are swayed by its sporting persona rather than the Limited's extra amenities for roughly the same price. We know the N Line would be our choice.

The Korean Car Blog spotted a report by South Korea's Chosun Ilbo stating the Hyundai Sonata won't make it to a ninth generation. Citing "insiders," the outlet wrote that "it is an open secret in the company that the Sonata will be discontinued, and Sonata assembly lines are being converted to produce electric cars." Hyundai has closed its ICE development departments and targets becoming a fully electric vehicle maker by 2040. KCB wrote that a Hyundai official said, "The development project for the DN9, the next-generation Sonata model, is not in progress," using the DN9 codename for the vehicle type and generation number, and that a parts supplier also offered, "There is no confirmed content about the development of DN9 parts."
The ninth-generation Sonata had been predicted to arrive around 2025. If reports of the model's end are true, Hyundai will be axing a nameplate that's 37 years old right now, with more than nine million sales globally on its balance sheet. The Sonata is the automaker's oldest model in South Korea and its third-best-selling internationally after the Avante, our Elantra, and the Accent.
Various reasons are given for the potential move. The first is the current Sonata's sales dip. Last year, Korean outlet Auto Post reported on rumors of a redesigned model arriving before the usual cadence because higher-ups considered the Sonata's daring looks partly to blame for the sales slump in the home market and North America. From a peak in 2014 at 216,936 units sold in the U.S., in 2021, the Sonata only found 83,434 U.S. buyers. The early numbers in 2022 show a bloodbath could be on the way, not what any maker wants to consider for a offering just three years into its life. Of course, it's hard to apportion blame to declining sedan sales — especially midsizers — when the segment in general is in freefall.
There's also Hyundai Motor Group's conversion to an EV maker. The Ioniq 5 has done big business for the firm, the Ioniq 6 is imminent, and the Ioniq 7 is on the way. Chosun Ilbo cited an "inside source" as saying, "We can't rule out an electric Sonata, but we're prioritizing the development of a compact electric car rather than a less popular midsize vehicle." Remember, on the other side of the family fence, the Kia Stinger was said to fall victim to the same shift, its end rumored to come at the end of Q2 this year.
We're told a facelift is on the way for the Sonata, debuting either later this year or early next year. After that, it could be fade out.

After numerous spy shots have shown different prototypes testing in various environments, Hyundai has finally pulled the wraps off the 2024 Sonata. Mind you, despite looking quite different compared to its predecessor, it is a mid-cycle refresh of the eighth generation, which is four years old.
Truth be told, we already knew what it looked like, for the most part, as it leaked last month, with photos of an uncamouflaged car making their way to the World Wide Web during what was the shooting of a promo.
For a facelift, the 2024 Hyundai Sonata sports some significant improvements, both inside and out. The Korean company’s car that goes up against the likes of the Toyota Camry has styling inspired by the latest Kona, with a full width LED bar up front. A much bigger grille has been incorporated into the new front bumper that has larger side vents, and the hood obviously carries over, although adapted to fit the fresh design, and decorated by the brand’s corporate logo. Out back, it no longer sends Honda Civic vibes, as it has a new lighting signature mirroring the front one, and a new bumper.
Hyundai has also altered the interior of its mid-size sedan for the 2024 model year, giving it a curved display. This setup, which combines the infotainment system in the middle of the dashboard and the digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, each one with a 12.3-inch screen, is the icing on the cake. A column-type shift-by-wire controller sits behind the steering wheel, freeing up more space on the center console that has been enhanced as well, with the automaker mentioning the palm rest that offers more comfort to the driver. Additional convenience is provided by the large cup holder and tray.
Full specifications will be released in due course, but the car is understood to drop the 1.6-liter four-banger in certain markets, replacing it with a 2.5-liter four-pot that kicks out 290 horsepower in the outgoing N Line variant. Speaking of which, the 2024 Hyundai Sonata will be available in the standard versions too, next to the N Line, and it will launch globally on March 30, with its physical presentation taking place at the Seoul Mobility Show, in Korea, running between March 30 and April 9. Subsequently, it might be presented at the New York Auto Show early next month, though you may want to take it as a rumor for now, just like the powertrain ‘information.’
On a final and sadder note, it has been reported that the Hyundai Sonata will be dropped altogether after the current generation. This is apparently an “open secret,” as the car marque is planning to go fully electric, and there would be no place in its future portfolio for an ICE-powered mid-size sedan anymore.

^ This. Rest of the car looks awesome though. BMW needs to take notes.

It does look good... For once, i dont mind the split headlights
On the other hand, if BMW didn't give a fuck when their own customer base is complaining about the looks, they surely wont give a fuck now..
They will continue with their nostril experiment until people stop buying them.

Hyundai launched the enhanced 2024 Sonata midsize sedan during a YouTube news conference. Simon Loasby, influential designer and head of the Hyundai Style Group at Hyundai Motor Company, walked viewers through the design upgrades. José Muñoz, president and Global COO of Hyundai Motor Company and president and CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, discussed why consumers are showing renewed interest in sedans. Hyundai has a strong history of regularly updating its Sonata lineup and exceeding customer expectations. The new 2024 Sonata goes on sale in winter 2023/2024.
"With a total of nearly three million sedans sold in the U.S. in the past twelve months, those new buyers and owners seeking to stay in the sedan segment will find that Hyundai is there with beautifully updated Sonata models," said Muñoz. "Sonata will now be available in All-Wheel-Drive, attracting even more sedan buyers to Sonata."
Hyundai's proven Hyundai TRACtion (HTRAC) AWD system is now available on Sonata for the first time. HTRAC is mated to the 2.5L engine to provide all-weather capabilities and enhanced driving performance by actively distributing torque between the front and rear wheels, depending on road conditions and driving situations. Sonata will once again be available as a standard internal combustion engine (ICE) model, sporty N Line variant, or hybrid electric (HEV) version, with a range of engine options.
"We wanted to give Sonata a more contemporary design statement," said Loasby. "It is super wide, fresh, modern, and very cool. Its low-slung design embodies our theme of Sensuous Sportiness, and its coupe-like styling makes this the most aerodynamic Sonata design ever. A true sports family sedan."
Sensational Coupe Style with Floating Theme for the Interior Design
The new Hyundai Sonata's low-slung exterior exemplifies progressive automotive design and embodies Hyundai's theme of 'Sensuous Sportiness.' On the front, Sonata's horizontal layout integrates Hyundai's signature Seamless Horizon Lamp and wide-set hidden headlights for a futuristic look. A new grille and larger air intakes create a more dynamic and aggressive appearance.
At the rear, the new H-lights emphasize Sonata's wide stance and high-tech character. The black spoiler-shaped trunk lid and exhaust-shaped rear end treatment promise sporty performance.
In keeping with its sporty exterior, the new Sonata interior provides a driver-centric layout with high-tech details that support modern lifestyles. Sonata's new interior 'floating' theme provides a futuristic mood, which is further enhanced by ambient lighting.
Sonata N Line's Unique Blend of Design and Sporty Flair
As sporty as the new Sonata is overall, the N Line turns up the volume with even more dynamic style. The enlarged front bumper grille area, exclusive 19-inch wheels, and rear spoiler express bold attitude, while the dual twin-tip exhaust amplifies Sonata's innate sportiness.
Inside, red-accented stitching and cross-metal patterned trim reinforce the image of a dynamic sports sedan. Sonata N Line is available with exclusive features, such as Active Sound Design, Launch Control, N Powershift, and Rev Matching.
Colors and Materials Express Personal Style
Sonata's exterior colors have a state-of-the-art aircraft look. In particular, the Sonata N Line's exclusive Aero Matte Silver color contains a bright and clean metallic pigment that changes warmth and coolness depending on the light. Additional exterior colors include Onyx Black Pearl, Serenity White Pearl, Atlas White, Portofino Gray (Matte/Metallic), Transmission Blue Pearl, Carbon Blue Pearl, Ultimate Red Metallic, Cream Beige, and Aero Silver Metallic.
The interior is trimmed in a choice of black, dark gray and greige two-tone, and dark gray and camel two-tone. Dark gray with red stitching and N Line red paint is exclusive to the Sonata N Line model.
Modern, light fabric colors and supple leathers provide a comfortable environment for the driver and passengers.
Elevated User Experience with a Variety of Purposeful Technologies and Features
To start with, the new Hyundai Sonata can be locked, unlocked, and started through the Digital Key 2. Digital Key 2 uses near-field communication (NFC), Bluetooth low energy (BLE), and ultra-wide band (UWB) protocols on smartphones or smart watches (Android and iOS), which assures a high level of security.
The panoramic curved display houses a 12.3-inch driver information cluster and 12.3-inch audio-video navigation (AVN) system for an immersive digital experience. Likewise, the head-up display (HUD) shows the most relevant information for drivers as a 12-inch projection on the windshield. The HUD allows them to process information quickly while keeping their attention on the road ahead.
The improved 12-speaker Bose Premium Sound System with new CenterPoint 360 technology has been tuned by Bose engineers to deliver a rich and immersive listening experience in every seat.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto was available on 2023 Sonata SE models (non-navigation equipped models) and is now available on all 2024 Sonata models (navigation and non-navigation equipped models).
The new 2024 Sonata takes convenience to the next level with continuous Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates, allowing car owners to save money and have their cars maintained with the latest software, providing an upgradable experience. Sonata also boasts a first-in-class power trunk for added convenience.
Proactive Safety Features for a Relaxed Driving Experience
The new Hyundai Sonata is well-appointed with an array of driver assistance and safety features to provide a comfortable driving experience.
It is equipped with Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 1.5 (FCA 1.5), Rear Cross-traffic Collision-avoidance Assist (RCCA), Blind-spot Collision Assist (BCA), Safe Exit Warning (SEW), Safe Exit Assist (SEA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go (SCC with S&G), available Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), and available Highway Driving Assist (HDA) to help relieve driver stress.
Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) enables the user to park the vehicle and exit parking spots by remotely reversing and forwarding with the smart key from outside the vehicle.
Rear Occupant Alert helps determine whether an infant is left unattended in the vehicle and provides a notification.
Sonata has further improved noise, vibration, and harshness performance - with body reinforcements and a change of steering wheel material.
Powertrains That Deliver Performance and Fuel Efficiency
The lineup includes a gasoline-powered 2.5L engine, 2.5L turbo engine, and 2.0L hybrid electric (HEV). The 2.5L turbo was developed especially for the N Line.
The HEV model is equipped with e-Motion Drive, which enables a smooth and comfortable driving experience in various driving conditions, and for the first time, it has paddle shifters and a regenerative braking mode to further increase fuel efficiency.
The new Sonata's aero-friendly design improves fuel efficiency and stability during high-speed driving.

The lower left model isn't bad, but the top left I don't care for.

Three Wheelin'
Dafuq is Hyundai doing with their designs. This latest Sonata looks like what kids drew in the 80s of what a futuristic car would look like in the 21st century. Notice I said kids, not adults. Yikes.
