How many Navi TLs are presently owned here -- one?
I've searched the posts covering the past 9 days and can find only one person who has physical possession of a TL with Navi. Another person said that he might negotiate the purchase of a demo with Navi from a dealer but it's not clear how that one progressed.
Is anyone scheduled for delivery of a TL with Navi in October? Are there others who have already taken possession of one?
I'm wondering because I read here that the focus is on Non-navis for the first batch of TLs being produced. I'm wondering to what extent that is the case. To the extent that it is my November allocation of a Navi model is looking a little better.

I wonder if Acura got it right in deciding to produce more non-Navis in the beginning (assuming that's what they did). The Navi seems so popular in spite of its cost.

I got my Anthracite/Quartz with Navi on October 6 from a dealer in Chapel Hill, NC. Could not have been more pleased with the service . . . and can't imagine being happier about the car! Mine had 4 miles on it the day I got it and I think I'm already over 250 incredible miles!!

I picked up my SSM TL with Navi on October 4. I bought it on October 2 when I went to test drive the new TL. There were 5 miles on the odometer when I took the car for a spin around the dealer lot that night. I just got lucky that one vehicle with Navi the dealer had was exactly what I was looking for. Otherwise, I would still be waiting. There was no way I was going to get the vehicle without the navi.

Thanks everyone! It appears that 5 of you have the Navi right now or will have it in the next couple of days. Early deposits may have helped in a couple of instances. With 20/20 hindsight I see now that I should have placed a deposit early on. I almost did in mid September but I had to see the parchment for myself before I could decide.
Hopefully a large number of Navis will arrive at dealers in the second half of this month.

I don't see the reason for the hype about the navi. I drive to and from work and to places I know where I'm going. We travel in another vehicle. It is hard to justify such a large expense for this item. Maybe at 1K i'd bite, but I'd rather take a vacation with the two grand.

Quite honestly, I got it simply because I think it looked quite a bit better than the non-Navi. However, the amount that I have used the Navi just in the first few weeks makes me very happy I got it.
For example: A few guys from work wanted to get Mexican for lunch. We had tried all of the places nearby (so we thought). So I selected Locations, Restaurants, Mexican from the Navi. Found several Mexican restaurants I didn't know about. Also, if I had a bluetooth phone, the car would have dialed the number to get reservations.
Music: If you you like knowing who you are listening to and the station (on XM), then the navi has a great display for that. Also, the touchscreen makes it much easier to change CD's, stations, speaker settings, etc.
Nighttime: Not sure what the non-navi setup looks like at night, but the navi screen is really quite impressive looking. It sets off the other blue colors in the car very well.
Is it necessary for me . . . no. Is it worth it to me . . . every penny.

There is one navigation function that even I would find useful. Yesterday we were traveling down a well known route and noticed a lot of congestion on the other side of the highway. Since that was our return route we sucked it up and crawled back through the congestion. There was probably a fairly complex alternative but we didn't feel like breaking out the map and marking out a snake through course. With navi this procedure would have been simplified to the point where we would have followed the alternate path.

Exactly, the instrument cluster is what makes the car for me. The music function and nighttime appearance are worth the cost even without navigation.

No, I did not need it, any rergrets, NONE, well worth the extra money, and glad Jason gave me the nudge to get it

I'll be receiving my SSM/quartz/navi the end of the month, assuming I'm happy with the test drive and the trade-in value on my perfect '99 3.2TL.
Never been a navi person before, but agree with all who posted above. Looks better, cool features (integration with bluetooth phone), even additional features over non-navi (voice commands for audio/temperature control). This is definitely a splurge, but have been told that Acura has the best navi and the 8-inch screen is pretty nice.

Question for those of you with Navi. Have you been able to successfully change background colors on your Navi system?
I recently went to a dealer to find out one of the two cars with Navi had electrical problems so severe that the techs were considering sending the car back to Acura.
The other TL with Navi that I sat in for over an hour listening to the sound system and absorbing details was not able to change background colors on the Nav sreen. The system offers four color choices however the system did not allow me to change them. The sales guy was pretty useless.
Off topic detail: The review from Jeff at TOV said there is a coin holder in the drivers door map compartment. Actually there are mounting notches for the coin holder in both front door map holders as well as the upper center consol compartment below the arm rest.

Regarding the Navi colors, you can only change the menu colors (center portion only), not the map colors. The menus are for the audio system, and navigation. I found the default blue to be the best, the red is not red, but a rusty color, and the others lack luster. You may not have seen it change as it was the menus only.

I took delivery of mine over a week ago. True that Navi's are rare. My dealer had only one (mine ) out of the 5 initial ones they received. It only had 7 miles on it. And since I had a deposit on it, no one else was allowed to test drive it.
Navi's mostly for the wifey - she's not too good with directions. Plus it's also good as a 411 directory. IMO, it's worth the $2k just for a better looking interior with it.
I know there's not too many pics of the Abyss Blue exterior or the Quartz interior. I'll try to post some this weekend in natural sunlight.

I tried (but not hard) to remove the coin holder as I dont use them and it takes up so much space in the uper console, hard to put my sunglasses there (the holder in the door does not work for mine, the glasses are too small and fall out, case does not fit either).

If you pull open the front door map holders two clicks you will see two notches molded in the plastic map holder door on the leading edge toward the front of the car. The coin holder can be pulled straight up and out of the center consol and slid into or out of either front door map holder door.
Do you know if the Nav standard background map color is the same in both the ebony/quartz interior vs. the camel/parchment interior. I have only seen the TL with the camel interior and the Navi map seemed very yellow. Additionally, the LCD temp read outs in the upper display seemed amber or yellow too. In the TL brochure the upper LCD display is white/blue.

Regarding the map background color, for my car, with ebony interior, the map is two colors depending on day / Night:
Day = yellow background with black streets
Night = black background with white streets
The upper LCD read out with the HVAC info, clock and radio readout is a light blue color.
If you want photos, let me know.

No photos needed. Thank you for the info. It seems camel & parchment interiors have amber led readouts and the quartz & ebony interiors have (thankfully) light blue.
