Are they really going to try another hatchback in the US? Hatchbacks don't sell at all state-side. In Europe and Asia: yes; in the US: no.

also remember that the honda jazz/fit will be coming over and the civic will not longer be the entry level honda. Accordingly, it will need to move up in engine size, space and amenities.

In fact, I think I'd take a Megane over the Civic in the spy photos.

I still think the Megane is and the Civic is just blah.

You are right about Peugeot tho - the 407 sedan is quite nice.

That's an older Megane...here's the newer one...

And don't forget the estate (or Tourer, as they like to call it) version...it's actually VERY nice looking. I loved what it looked like in person...

The Fiat Multipla, as ugly as it is, has been praised for it's practicality and usability. On that note, yes, hella ugly.

Renault I think looks better in person then it does it photos.

Honda is doing a real good job keeping this thing under wraps until the last minute.

According to Edmunds:

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=104395

The 06 Civic will debut at the Chicago show less than 4 weeks from now.,

Let's hope it's more exciting than the last unveiling of the Civic. Honda was tight lipped about it...and then it turned out to be a dud.

i agree. SEems the USDM RSX is dead and putting the stock RSX engine in the Civic easily places Honda back into the compact throne again.

You've gotta be joking me. What kind of a cracked-out monkey is designing the new Civic?

The profile of that car is just horrible.

Europeans do seem to be BIG on hatchbacked cars. IMHO, the Civic peaked with the EG models and it's been downhill ever since.

The sad part about the RSX is that IMO it's the best Integra Honda ever produced. I would be saddened to see it discontinued.

The eighth-generation version of the popular Honda Civic will go on sale in the fall, with lots of choices for consumers.

Full story: Honda confirmed this week that the 2006 Honda Civic compact sedan will be unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show, which opens February 12.

The Civic, the eighth-generation of the popular small car, goes on sale in the fall, said Takeo Fukui, president and CEO of Honda Motor Co.

The new Civic will be offered with two, three, four and five doors and will be produced at Honda's six regional operations around the globe. In the US, the Civic will be equipped with all of the same standard safety features, including side curtain airbags and antilock brakes, as the current Accord.

Fukui said the Civic will come with four new global powerplants in its first year — an industry first. They include a higher fuel economy, lower-emission gasoline engine, a compressed natural gas engine that is made in Ohio, a gas-electric hybrid with significantly higher fuel economy and performance and, for Europe, a diesel engine.

Fukui also confirmed the next iteration of the Honda Pilot will be introduced in the fall as a 2006 model. The Pilot will feature the automaker's recently introduced variable cylinder management system, which deactivates three of the six cylinders to boost fuel economy. The system is offered now in the Odyssey minivan and the Accord Hybrid.

What this means to you: Honda is not taking any chances with its 2006 Honda Civic. It will debut with an array of body styles and engine choices — but US consumers aren't likely to see the diesel version.

OT: the new Honda Pilot is coming in the fall? It came out after the MDX, why isn't that one getting a make-over earlier?

Think that was the worst part of the pilot when it was introduced, it looked like a last gen crv. Hopefully the civic is a sharp looking car.

make-over? the MDX got a refresh already w/ the new bumpers, headlights, tail lights, and interior changes. the pilot is getting a refreshing, not a new body, while the new mdx will come out after.
