Ferrari has clearly taken a big step here...but I really think all of Ferrari's old and classic charm is now dead with this car!! The 430 Scuderia was the last real Ferrari if the company keeps this up...i mean really, i thought it was Lamborghini and other such cars that were built solely to be too fast and to go out of their way to get attention. Ferrari's always had the feeling that you were in the real thing that all other companies couldn't match...now it seems Ferrari is just doing what everyone else is: trying too hard. with these numbers, im sure the Enzo's (F40's and F50's) successor will come with a pair of wings.
CLIFFS: Ill take an F40, F355, GTO, Challenge Stradale, etc over this any day because they actually have Ferrari's classic charm!! this is obviously an amazing car, but a little over the top for even Ferrari IMHO.

Beautiful car, nice successor to the F430. Look forward to seeing one in person. The dash looks amazing, something McLaren, Lamborghini, and others could learn from. As far as the paddle versus manual goes, it's a shame but I doubt it'll hinder sales. Ferrari engineers and stylist have done a great job progressing the 360/430 line with function and style.

Straight from our sources in Maranello comes this information on the upcoming 458 spider.
Power will remain the 570 hp 4.5 liter V8 as found in the coupe. The top will feature similar
mechanisms as found in the California. Call your dealer now and beg for a spot.
Thanks for tip "friend"!

That's my nice way of saying the door contours screw up/disrupt the flow of the car to the rear contours.
The designer must have been caught napping.
I'll take a blue F430 scuderia at an inventory clearing discount please

Ferrari recalls Italia cars after reports of fires
Ferrari has decided to recall all of the 458 Italia cars it made this year, following reports of a number of the luxury cars catching fire.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-11156782
Ferrari said its engineers had flown around the world to investigate five reports of "thermal incidents".
As a result, it will be asking the owners of more than 1,200 of the supercars to bring them in for modification work.
The 458 Italia typically costs about £170,000 ($260,000).
There were reported incidents in California, Paris, Switzerland, China and one other unnamed location.
Ferrari said the problem had been traced to adhesive used in the wheel-arch assemblies.
In certain circumstances, the glue can begin to overheat, smoke and even catch fire, a spokesman told BBC News.
In extreme cases, the melting of the adhesive can lead the heat shield - the liner which protects the engine - to deform and move closer to the exhaust, causing the lining to catch fire.
The handful of owners who first reported the fires - and that were later confirmed to be due to this problem - will now receive a new model, Ferrari said.
For the rest, their cars will be modified to replace the adhesive with mechanical fasteners.
Ferrari launched an investigation last month after photos purporting to show 458 models on fire or burnt out emerged.

500HP isnt the only thing u have to look at. You also have to figure the weight and torque of the car. It seems pretty light and has high torque. That car is gonna pull so it's all good.

Saw my first one live and in the flesh coming out of J Alexanders for lunch last week. Shiny new Red on Tan looked even hotter up close, still had dealer plates on it.

Everyone loves a special-edition, track-focused Ferrari and the time has come for the 458 to get a taste of the Maranello magic. At this week's 2010 Bologna Motor Show, Ferrari has devoted its stand to serve as storyboard showcasing the automaker's racing heritage. The newest piece of that history takes the form of the Ferrari 458 Challenge, which is finally making its world debut.
The 458 Challenge is the fifth model to get placed into a single-series racing program. The standard 458 Italia is already such a potent beast that the Challenge keeps the changes away from the engine bay leaving it with the same 570 horsepower as the standard 458 Italia. That said, the gear ratios and calibration of the dual-clutch transmission have been adjusted so that the Challenge generates more torque at lower revs.
Stiffer springs and a lower ride height help keep the body planted around the large Pirelli tires. That rubber hugs 19-inch forged alloys with a central locking nut. The brakes are upgraded to the newest setup that Brembo offers, and the system is paired with the ABS that debuted on the wild-child Ferrari 599XX.
Both the suspension and braking get a helping hand from something that has been reduced: weight. Ferrari has focused on reducing the thickness of the body panels, as well as introducing materials such as carbon fiber and Lexan.
All of the upgrades found on the Ferrari 458 Challenge result in a potent, track-ready machine that is faster than the 458 Italia it's based on. The 458 Challenge hit Ferrari's home Fiorano race track for numerous test sessions, and during the course of development, it was able to post lap times two seconds faster than the Italia. During testing, the 458 Challenge also pulled lateral grip numbers in the neighborhood of 1.6 g's. Giggity.

I have to say, when the 458 first came out I didn't like it at all. Some parts of its design kinda make me still but it looks sexy.

Lamborghini has already revealed that it will reveal a new “super sports car” at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, but cross-county rival Ferrari is planning a show-stopping unveiling of its own.
The 458 Italia already hails as Ferrari’s best-selling model, with sales likely to increase after September’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Ferrari will reportedly unveil a Spider convertible version of its 458 coupe at the biennial show, replacing the 430 Spider.
Previous rumors suggested Ferrari might scrap a convertible version of the 458 altogether due to the positioning of the California, but the Italian automaker appears to be just weeks away from pulling the sheet on the 458 drop top.
The 458 Spider is set to arrive with the same 570 horsepower 4.5L V8 found in the 458 coupe, meaning convertible lovers should be able to sprint from 0-60 in well under 4 seconds. The 458’s 200+mph top speed will, however, likely be limited for the Spider variant.
Surprisingly, the 458 Spider will employ a retractable hardtop rather than a simpler and lighter-weight soft top unit. No word on why Ferrari opted for the hard top, but it should make the car a bit more livable with the roof up.
