Did they have any to begin with?

This is going to be seriously expesive. Even if it is only $100 to fix each car, that's still $100M they're losing.

The kind of recall that can put a carmaker's already fragile finances into serious trouble.

Chrysler recalls 28,755 Jeeps

Chrysler has recalled 28,755 2007 and 2008 Jeep Commanders and Grand Cherokees. The recall is due front-brake calipers that are made out of gray iron instead of ductile iron, which could cause the caliper to fracture. The recall affects models built between May 17 and July 13. No accidents have been reported due to the problem.

Its unclear if Chrysler's separation from Daimler has caused a dramatic decrease in quality controls, but the newest recall only adds to Chrysler's title of most recalled domestic automaker of 2007.

The last sentence, what??? They just bought the company, how does that apply to the recall? It effected cars that were made before they bought it.

Chrysler working on emergency overhaul of Sebring, Avenger sedans

http://www.leftlanenews.com/chrysler...er-sedans.html

Chrysler has announced that it is working on an emergency interior overhaul of its Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger sedans — dubbed Project D. The redesign is due to harsh criticisms of the cars' interiors. The automaker is currently assembling a team of senior managers and directors who took recent buyouts to head Project D.

The Chrysler Sebring was launched in the fall of 2006 and the Dodge Avenger launched in January of 2007. Both were met with lackluster retail sales.

Both cars compete in the mid-size sedan segment — one of the most competitive in the industry — and go head-to-head with the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima and the Chevrolet Malibu.

No word was given on when the updated cars will debut.

Worst interiors ever.

Actually I think pontiac used to have worse interiors.

I dont see anything great about them, but I dont think they are outright horrendous either.

I think they aren't bad Looking, and i thought the same thing about the chevy cobalt interior. Judged purely on looks they are O.K. The way the materials in the interior are made though, makes it feel like riding around in a fisher price toy, my cousin's 94 honda accord feels better to sit in.

I agree....they don't look too bad. I probably would choose the Dodge one first, but I like them both.

The pictures actually do them a lot more justice than how they are in real life. In the pics, you can't get the horrible feel of the materials, and up close is when you can tell how crappy they really are. My parents have on '04 Sebring that really is terrible....lots of hard and ugly plastics, panels that don't fit together well, basically just very cheap parts. And this is on the top of the line Platinum Series or whatever it's called. The car stickered at $25k & change, but definitely isn't worth the price (they didn't pay that, but still). I haven't been in the new ones, but if the '04 is any indication, well, I can definitely see why the emergency overhaul is needed. They should've just done it right in the first place, though.

Well, at that time Chrysler wasnt a company owned by a private business.

Now, that they are their first priority is to make Chrysler profitable again. It means cutting less profitable vehicles (which they have started doing.) And making the necessary changes within the company.

Once this happens, you will see Chrysler once again go public in the stock market.

How about an emergency overhaul of the exteriors? The Sebring is just. plain. fugly. The Avenger is a 2/3 sized Charger and frankly isn't as handsome. The Charger is perfect, the Avenger not so much. I've bought Mopar in the past but wouldn't consider it now.

Is it so hard to make a decent interior? I just don't get it. My CR-V has hard plastic everywhere, but Honda managed to make it look good. Put some textured plastic on the parts where you'd most likely touch (the door grabs, steering wheel, etc), put a sprinkle of chrome here and there, leave the rest with low gloss plastic, and you're done.

Ive rode in a base model 300 and avenger before. They both had to be the cheapest feeling interiors in the world. The avenger actually doesnt look all too bad though exterior wise

I suppose, but you'd think with a redesign, that they'd want to finally do it right, but they didn't. I just don't understand how they can keep getting it wrong when all they have to do is look at the top competition and see how they execute their interiors.

The 300C isn't much (or any) better. I've never been in a base 300, but the C wasn't impressive at all, either. I was quite disappointed for something that expensive.

If it is anything like my wife's aunt's Caliber then, on the Sebring's interior but for acting on an emergency overhaul on that interior.

In general Chrysler interiors make those of Ford and Nissan seem VERY attractive by comparison.

I would need another thread in order to launch my diatribe about the Caliber's ergonomics and design.

Been in a 300, and the Calibar. I wouldn't have my worst enemies drive in those things. I wonder how the minivans are doing?

You would probably need to compare the quality of these cars to the Japanese cars from the 80's to make a far comparison. The quality of todays Asian cars are in a different league.

Chrysler just does not impress me at all. Its not only the horrible interiors but the whole company. I mean the new Town and Country has a V6 that makes 195 HP which is such a joke considering there are 4 cylinders that have more HP then that. If it wasnt for fleet sales no way that van would be the best selling in america. I mean its pretty obvious they are desperate to sell cars with all these commericals with 0% and no payments till 2008. If they do not get there shit together then Chrysler.

I agree. The TSX makes 205 HP with a 4 banger. Also, maybe you didn't see it, but the Odyssey recently took #1 in minivan sales, I think.

Chrysler needs to get its shit together or survival of the fittest will take one more victim....lol.

The Odyssey has 260 HP in their V6. Hmmmm, what is Chrysler thinking? And sticking a table in the middle of the van does not make it a "hit with the public".

About the interiors. It's just the sheer vastness of cheap looking plastic. And this is with ALL of their vehicles, sans the dead Crossfire (which was a 1998 SLK interior).

Neuronbob, I totally agree with you! As bad as the interior looks, the exterior is 10 times worse!!! LOL!
