Very true. I have a 350Z 'vert that does not look good top up. Now a hard top convertible is a completely different animal . . . With a convertible, you get a lot of shake developing over time as the chassis gets older. Mine hit 10 this year and it is noticeably shakier compared to 5 years ago.

Post 2015 Stingray Options...

Source: http://www.leftlanenews.com/chevrole...#ixzz32wYWT3iO

General Motors has released a few remaining details about its 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, including options and colors.

Mechanical components remain mostly unchanged from the 2014 model, aside from the new eight-speed paddle-shifted transmission option that has been fully described in earlier reports.

One notable addition is the ZF1 Appearance Package, which borrows body elements and five-spoke silver alloy wheels from the Z51 Performance Package. The aesthetic upgrades arrive without the Z51's under-the-hood enhancements, and likely with a much lower price tag.

The company is offering two other new packages that were previously announced, including the jet-inspired Atlantic Design Package and a Pacific Design Package that adds racing strips, black satin wheels and sport seats, among other features.

For an even sportier appearance, buyers can add a wide range of carbon-fiber elements including the front splitter, rear spoiler, tonneau cover and badges. Shark Grey Metallic has also been added as a new color, along with Daytona Sunrise Orange Metallic, while Cyber Gray Metallic and Lime Rock Green Metallic will not be available for 2015.

GM has not yet announced a pricing structure for the 2015 options.

BREAKING NEWS: 2015 Corvette Z06 to Have 650 HP and 650 lb-ft Torque

http://www.corvetteblogger.com/2014/...-lb-ft-torque/

BOOM!

Corvette Product Manager Harlan Charles broke the news on his personal facebook page Thursday night announcing that the 2015 Corvette Z06 will have 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft torque.

That’s 25 more horsepower and 25 more lb-ft of torque than was previously estimated. Chevrolet has always said those numbers with a plus (+) after them so we’re glad to see the 650 hp threshold met.

Click here to see this 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible
At 650 hp, this will make the Corvette Z06 the most powerful vehicle that GM has ever sold. 2015 can’t come soon enough.

Here was Harlan’s short and simple announcement:

2015 Corvette Z06 to Have 650 HP and 650 lb-ft Torque
A post on the Corvette Forum confirms that these are indeed the SAE certified performance numbers for the LT4.

From here: http://gmauthority.com/blog/2014/06/...#ixzz33pN5YNQm

When the 2015 Corvette Z06 originally broke cover at the 2014 North American International Auto Show six months ago, the power estimations were conservative. At the time, Chevrolet would *only* claim 625 horsepower and 625 foot-pounds of torque, with the subtle hint that there could be more after official SAE testing is done.

Guess what. SAE testing is done. And lordy, do we have ourselves a winner. Because officially, the 2015 Corvette Z06 will be one of the ten most powerful vehicles for sale in the United States of America for 2015, at 650(!) horsepower of work rate @ 6,400 RPM and 650(!) foot-pounds of twisting force at 3,600 RPM, thanks to its incredibly power-dense 6.2L LT4 supercharged V8 engine. In fact, it’s more powerful than the SRT Viper, McLaren 650S and Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4. The Ferrari FF hardly beats it, at 651 hp.

Pretty sure what you’re hearing now is the Star Spangled Banner beautifully chanting emanating from the dyno charts.

The new LT4 is the driving force of the 2015 Z06. This jet engine disguised as a supercharged V8 has 457 lb-ft (619 Nm) just off idle and 625 lb-ft (847 Nm) at only 2,800 rpm. The V-12-powered Ferrari Berlinetta, for example, produces about 28 percent less torque than the Z06, despite offering about 12 percent more horsepower – and its peak torque isn’t achieved until 6,000 rpm. The LT4 maintains 90 percent of its peak torque, or 592 lb-ft (802 Nm), from 2,500 to 5,400 rpm. Such is the nature of forced induction.

Compared to its LS-engine predecessors, the 2015 Z06 produces 40 percent more peak torque (180 lb-ft / 244 Nm) than the previous-generation’s 7.0L LS7 engine – and 7.5 percent more than the supercharged 2013 Corvette ZR1’s 604 lb-ft (819 Nm). At 3,200 rpm, the new LT4 surpasses the LS7 by 208 lb-ft of torque (252 Nm). On the horsepower side of the graph, the LT4’s 650-hp rating is 29 percent greater than the LS7’s 505 horsepower (376 kW), and 12 horses more than the ZR1’s LS9 engine. That’s evolution. And don’t forget, it’s the only vehicle that will be on sale with over 650 hp/lb-ft which will channel its power through either a seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.

I don't think a ZR1 will happen. They might up the power on the Z06 or improve on it in other ways. But two high performance variants of a model, both with forced induction? The only company that does that is MB with the SL63 and SL65, but that never happened until the most recent iteration of SL. And even then, it's a twin-turbo V8 and a twin-turbo V12... GM will stick with a V8 in the Vette.

Impressive graphic. And this LT4 engine is only a V8, where the F12 and Aventador are both V12's.

To add to this graphic, here's an excerpt from AutoWeek:

Just look at all that accessible torque! The 650 hp are nice, but twist is really the name of the game here. All 650 lb-ft are yours at just 3,600 rpm. You could probably leave the car in third gear and cruise around town like you were in an automatic. But why?
Chevy, understandably proud of their small block prowess, are also touting the Z06's incredible value. Not only does the new 6.2-liter motor have 40 percent more peak torque than the previous Z06's 7.0-liter (and 29 percent more horsepower to boot), it's got more torque than the high-revving Ferrari F12berlinetta, the Porsche 911 Turbo S and the McLaren 650S.

The Hybrid systems they are developing are helping in these horsepower wars.
I assume the gas consumption of this vette will be horrible.

30 mpg for a supercharged V8 is really impressive. I wonder if they're implementing an overrunning clutch pulley? Dunno if the ZR1 has one, but I think supercharged AMGs use them. Then, 30 mpg would make sense.
