I would guess "under $60k" means around $57k. I had heard that pricing earlier.
I hope that's closer to the truth. But still, that will be the base model. The base model does not include the flow-thru vents on the top of the rear quarter panel and other options. So it sounds like the Z51 trim package will be way into the $60k range.

also .... let's not forget (I did) that GM has said it will have a non-Stingray base model, that will have a less powerful engine and start at less than $50k. So technically the Stingray is already a special model, and that being said it's not exactly a 'base' model.

^ I don't want to sound like a snob since 70k is a lot of scratch, but I just don't see enough brand cachet to warrant "base" model Vette pushing those prices before options.
Either that or my head just isn't keeping up with inflation and how much better of a car this seems to be

I was just at the dealer getting my Vette serviced, and I honestly see these cars getting into 80+K for the Z51. A loaded 13' Grand Sport Convertible I was looking at had a sticker of 81K. The 427 convertible had a sticker of 91K.
The Vette's base price is always a gimick. You never see a stripper around, and all options come in packages that are 5K +. My convertible had a sticker of $68K new. Inflation has hit the Vette over the years as people have realized how much car/performance you get in return.

I like that Chevy is positioning the Corvette as an affordable-exotic rather than cutting corners and producing an inexpensive sports coupe. The Camaro can now handle the lower sports coupe range and GM can engineer the Corvette as a true world-class sports car.

As per my good friend who runs the dealer told me..."I can get you high on the wait list for the C7, but I'm not going to be able to go below sticker when the car is getting marked up even to our best customers."
Yep. Especially when you factor making room for the Camaro models below so there's little overlap. The Camaro used to be just a muscle car, now it has more dynamic performance credibility across the board.

Good points on the Camaro. Funny, the ZL1 non-convertible on the showroom floor had a sticker of 61K. What is a new Stingray going to go for if that's the case???

I expect the C7 Gen. Z06 though, to start around $90-95K easily.

2014 Corvette Stingray sales start limited to 900 Chevy dealers
When the redesigned 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray begins rolling off the assembly line in Bowling Green, Ky., in late summer, only about 900 of Chevrolet's 3,000-plus dealers will get cars. Last week, General Motors confirmed to Chevy dealers which ones had qualified to sell the Stingray at launch.
Those dealerships can begin ordering the car in the next few weeks. In order to qualify to sell the 2014 Corvette, Chevrolet dealerships had to sell at least four Corvettes in 2012.
GM is limiting allocation to its highest-volume Corvette dealers because it expects demand for the seventh-generation sports car to outstrip production. GM wants to get that limited number of Vettes into the hands of dealers that can best turn them. Those 900 dealerships accounted for 80 percent of Corvette sales in 2012.

Based on the 2 years I worked at the local Chevrolet dealer, it sounds like they'll be on the list.
For a country-ish suburb, they usually didn't have much trouble moving Vettes, though the Z06s & ZR1s tended to sit a little longer than Grand Sports. At one point we had 2 ZR1s in the showroom & a Z06 outside on the sidewalk.

Now sure. Give it a year when production is at full and the initial demand is gone and you will be able to get them below sticker.

When I was working at Chevrolet, when the ZR1 & 'new' Camaros first hit the showroom as stock units, they had a "Market Price Adjustment" dealer addition to the price.
That only lasted 3 or 4 months.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51
Wow.
Press release...
Press release...
Chevrolet released official performance estimates today for the 2014 Corvette Stingray, the most capable standard Corvette ever. Equipped with the available Z51 Performance Package, the new Stingray is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, braking from 60 to 0 in 107 feet, and sustaining 1.03 g in cornering.
Cumulatively, the acceleration, cornering and braking capability of the Corvette Stingray enabled it to lap the Virginia International Raceway’s (VIR) 4.2-mile “Grand Course” in 2:51.78.
“For the new Stingray, we set out to elevate every aspect of the Corvette’s performance,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer. “Considered alone, the acceleration, braking and cornering performance of the Corvette Stingray is truly impressive. More significant is how well they work together, resulting in a lap time at VIR that places the new Stingray in the upper echelon of all sports cars.”
The lap around VIR was conducted in Stingray equipped with the available Z51 Performance Package and Magnetic Ride Control. The vehicle that conducted the lap was modified only with safety features like a racing seat and harness, and fire extinguisher system.
“The new Stingray constantly communicates feedback to the driver, which makes you feel incredibly confident behind the wheel,” said Jim Mero, Corvette vehicle dynamics engineer. “That confidence encourages you to attack each corner because the Stingray drives so well: the tire grip is incredible; the steering response is some of the best I’ve ever experienced; the Magnetic Ride dampers allow little body roll through the corner, while still soaking up the rumble strips when you clip the apex,” he said. “It’s just addictive on the track.”
The 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe goes on sale in the third quarter of 2013 for a suggested starting retail price of $51,995, excluding tax, title, and license fees. The $2,800 Z51 Performance Package includes an electronic limited-slip differential; dry-sump oiling system; integral brake, differential and transmission cooling; as well as a unique aero package that further improves high-speed stability. Magnetic Ride Control with Performance Traction Management is a $1,795 option. A Corvette Stingray equipped like the test car used at VIR would cost $56,590.

You asked...?

The first official performance figures for the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray with the Z51 Performance Package are in, and they're impressive for a mildly-upgraded base Corvette.
Remember, this isn't the Z06, or the ZR1--this is the standard $51,995 coupe with only the $2,800 Z51 Performance Package, and the $1,795 Magnetic Ride Control with Performance Traction Management setup. As equipped to achieve the new performance figures, the Stingray would cost $56,950.
So what does that $56,950 buy you? Zero to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, sustained lateral g forces of 1.03g, 60-0 braking in 107 feet, 1/4 mile times of 12 seconds at 119 mph, and a 2:51.78 lap time around Virginia International Raceway's "Grand Course". By way of comparison, the 2011 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 circled the Grand Course in 2:58.48--and last year's Corvette Z06 accelerated to 60 mph in just one-tenth of a second less, at 3.7 seconds.
Included in the Z51 Performance Package, you'll find performance enhancers like an electronic limited-slip differential; dry-sump oiling; brake, transmission, and differential cooling; and an upgraded aero package for high-speed stability.
Before you ask, no, Chevy hasn't yet released top speed figures for the car, or figures for non-Z51-equipped Stingrays. Those will come closer to the car's official launch later this year.
We have some special coverage planned for the 2014 Corvette Stingray, and quite a lot of it, so stay tuned for more in the near future.

Only 320HP, with increasing boost I could see it but I doubt a stock 1998 Supra Turbo match a C7 in acceleration.
#2159
yes, but a Supra couldn't do this:
but then again, a Supra looks way better. I still can't get over the Stingray's rear end hopefully for the Z06 they change it up.
- Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 2:45.63
- Mosler MT900S 2:45.90
- Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR 2:48.60
- Mosler MT900S Photon 2:49.80
- Ferrari 458 Italia 2:49.90
- Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51 Package 2:51.78
- Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera 2:51.80
- KTM X-Bow 2:52.30
- Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 2:52.38
- Nissan GT-R 2:53.20
- Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Z07 Package 2:53.50
