Real exclusive, nothing better than spending $100k+ on a car and being just another SL.

Who the hell is going to buy a $100k Cadillac? Bad enough the regular XLR is about $75k, no one's going to buy this car at that price. And while we're at it, no one's going to buy the STS-V for $75k, either. They're all going to opt for the M5 or E55 AMG.

There is no way in hell the Ford GT is overpriced, nor is this XLR-V. If you look at this car's competition, which is the SL500, for the price of the MB you get 302bhp, and for the XLR-V you get 440bhp. And the Caddy will almost certainly be more reliable. I'd rather stand out in a crowd than be "just another SL-driver".

I don't know how much exclusivity it will buy. It's not like you see an SL around every corner, anyway. I'd take the Mercedes over the Caddy anyday. Even in its top brand GM doesn't go it all, the XLR'-Vs interior IMO does not command the 100K price tag.

Cadillac priced this car out of the market for a handful of reasons. Consumers looking at cars in this price range won't buy a 100K GM product. Cadillac's simply don't have the brand prestige and/or quality to command this type of price. Cadillac should have priced this vehicle no more than 85K. GM needs to get a clue that they have an average product and need to differentiate their products by being cheaper than the competition. I guess they forgot about the Allante.

The interiors of both cars feature extensive use of leather wrapped surfaces, created by craftsmen who cut, wrap and sew leather around components individually.

For under 100k this interior is much better IMHO

Cadillac used to be THE brand for cars. The ultimate in luxury. It's amazing how in less than 50 years people forget that. There is a reason why things are called "The Cadillac of (insert genre here". This car IS cheaper than it's competition, which is really only one car, as discussed before. So I'm really not sure what you're on about.

For the record, if I had $100k and I was looking for a sports car, I'd be hopping into a Maserati Spyder or a Porsche 911 Turbo, not even an SL500. The SL500 is a pig. I don't want a $100k 2-seater sports car that'll get run down by a 350Z any day of the week.

Guess I'll tell that to the guy driving the black GT I saw last night
That car is sooooooooooo sexy in person. It's louder than a bus under slow acceleration.

It's more or less about the badge, which we really will never understand because we love cars and others really don't care much. Tell me that most people in that segment, other than hardcore enthusiasts, care about 302 hp vs 440 hp.

Anyway, the rear deck is also leather wrapped along with the roll bars.
Also, the Maserati Spyder is a dated piece of shit with a cloth top that is beyond not stiff. The interior is also a bit lack luster (material wise), I've checked out a few over the years.

What is the fuss all about? Its overpriced, just like every other premium convertible out there.
The engine is handbuilt at GMs performance center, its an expensive car for people with $$.

I'm talking about the tach and speedo. Its pretty old-school for $100K car standards. Its old-school for $30K car standards.
wtf, do you work for Cadillac or something?

The gauge design could be a little more exciting, but doesn't look that bad in person.
Boring interior? Yeah the SL has such a hot exciting interior..lol.

My friend's father works at a Cadillac dealership and I've been in the XLR many times. While the interior is somewhat boring looking, it is very well put together and overall a nice package. The SL's interior looks snazzier but the materials don't feel as solid

To be honest, do you really think Cadillac is on par with people's mindset towards Honda/Toyota, etc? To many people, Cadillac is the pinnacle of luxury, even when it isn't. The XLR is for the people who grew up with the big fins and the color pink readily available on their Caddys, and can now afford to buy one. Go be a Continent-whore if you'd like, I'll be in my XLR-V cruising past when your SL is on the roadside paging assistance for itself.
Cadillac will sell everyone of these it produces. End of story.

let's take a closer look...... are these gauges really all that bad????
notice it says "BVLGARI" on the bezel of the speedo.... well now SEE!????! THIS is why it costs so much. hey, if you want the finer things in life, you gotta pay.
the fonts used in GM interiors has been a pet-peeve of mine since the late 80's..... using better fonts would work WONDERS for these cars...
