I am sorry but let's not forget that there is a 5 series car available with a 2.5 liter 190HP engine.

Gav so it is battling the GS/E/5?? The last Seville was in comparos against the S/LS/7 etc (and got creamed over and over).

Is is smaller? The last Seville was a very long car.

Heh, is it that high now? Last I had looked the 525i was rated at 184 ... Which apparently keeps no one from dropping $48k on a 525iA

The only thing I can complain about are the seats. Give me a little bolstering or make sport seats optional. BMW does this, so logically Cadillac should follow.

I am guessing we'll see that with the V-Series.

It looks like the rear suspension sits lower than the front. Maybe that's why.

I hope the V-Series of this car doesn't have the axle hop problem the CTS-V does ... I'd love to see this car smoke BMWs and Audis ... Nice job Cadillac!

Engine, 3.6L V6 VVT (260 HP [193.9 kW] @ 6500 rpm, 252 lb.-ft. [340.2 N-m] @ 2800 rpm)

Engine, 4.6L Northstar V8 VVT, SFI variable valve timing, Northstar (320 HP [238.6 kW] @ 6400 rpm, 315 lb.-ft. [425.3 N-m] @ 4400 rpm)
I'm guessing both of these engine will have a redline ~ 7000 rpm. It's surprising to see that the V6's torque peaks early at 2800 rpm & yet it's power peaks at 6500 rpm! That is one broad, flat torque curve.

True about the hop. That's what was responsible for most journalists not been able to break into the 4s for the 0-60 run. Pathetic. I hope they fix it next year already.

That cars looks very nice, and the interior is a step up and also nice, but i dont think its any kind of mindblowing interior, still simple, easy, the new tl still has it beat.

a V-series with manual tranny would be sick, what would that be an m5 fighter?

whats up with the CTS-V axle hop thing? there a link for that?

Unfortunately thats the only prob I see also, its a nice cadillac, but it really doesn't spark any excitement and I think thats what it needed with the new rl, gs, and m45 coming.

I'm sorry but that is a step back for Caddy. The last 2 gens of the STS were good looking cars and the interior was awesome. This leaves my head scratching. The CTS looks cheap, this looks cheaper. Where is the luxury stance?

It masks it's size well. But no way I'd take this over any Benz, BMW or Lexus. Or Audi.

imo, modern cadillac got to be one of the ugliest car brand ever, but i guess they are aiming for their targeted market/audience - people who dont like curves.

all current cadillac and that one spied pic baby mercedes maclaren pic send chillz up my spine everytime looking at their pictures. they are just so hard on my eyes. IMO

No. A 760i fighter for $30-$40K less.

Many journalists during reviews of the CTSV complained of rear axle hop, hence the low 5s for the 60 instead of the mid 4s claimed by Cadillac.

Are you blind? The interior of the new STS is greatly improved over the previous gen. From the two pics shown, that interior design is on par with Lexus and Infiniti. The actual quality of the interior is another thing though.

I don't think it comes close to the ES 330 let alone the GS or LS. It's nice but I think the previous gens looks better.

I am sure the V series will look better but any car with a drop, bigger wheels and a kit looks better.

This is a great car for Cadillac. They won't have a problem selling, and the V series will be something serious. I think the softened edges work well here, and I definitely like the interior better than the CTS's. Having driven one, I'm VERY impressed by the XLR, and Caddy finally showed some balls by charging what they ask for that thing. I just hope they take that no-excuses approach to the DTS (Deville) successor and build something serious to comptete with the S-Class,7-Series,Q45,LS430, and A8. Perhaps that V12 rumor will materialize also...

I disagree. Caddy is postioning this car to compete with the A6,E-Class,5-Series,M45,Gs, etc. A V-series version would compete with the M5 IMO.

Well, size-wise the STS competes with the 7 series, S Class and the CTS competes with the 5 series, E Class. Price-wise though, it's what you said.

Sure, size wise, it's a bit larger; but not that much larger. I think BMW made a mistake by not growing the 5-Series a lil bit. The 3-Series is supposed to grow a little bit, now that the 1 is coming to the U.S. and will be the new smallest offering under that brand. The A6 grew a bit in size, though the latested E-Class kept it's length (though the wheel-base grew a bit)... now I've read that the next S-Class will grow back to the size equivilant to the one before this current mode! So, in truth, I don't think that the STS will look out of place in that price class once we see more of the new GS's and the new M cars from Infiniti coming out later this year... very quickly, everyone will notice that the E-Class and the 5-Series are the smallest and most expensive in that price range. Caddy's got a new flagship sedan in the works that will round out their lineup; I just don't hope the screw it up.

The new 2005 Cadillac STS is seen in the heart of New York's Financial District, and under the shadow of the New York Stock Exchange Friday, April 2, 2004. The 2005 Cadillac STS is set to make its world wide introduction at the New York Auto Show April 6, 2004. (AP Photo/photo released by General Motors, Joe Polimeni).

To me, the car looks slightly cheaper and more downmarket than the current STS. I still like the overall look, especially the exterior. The interior, which looks like it was designed by someone using a T-square, seems a little cheap to me. It kind of reminds me of those old 1980's Cadillacs,
