Nice job, GM.
Sort of unexpected to me. The new interior is very nice, and they have pretty good powerplant options. Finally, Domestic V6s that match/beat the Japanese V6s. Plus its available with a 6-speed automatic and a 6-speed manual, in addition to the AWD option, something that none of the Japanese makes offer in their sedans. May have to see one in person.

I knew the CTS was gonna win ... based upon the feedback of the editors, other journalists ... it was a "pro-America" win. Remember the revival of the Thunderbird? I think it won COTY honors, too ... and guess how much of stinker that car was ...
And if I remember correctly ... PT Cruiser (cough cough Neon chassis) also took home the trophy, too ...

I like the CTS alot, but I am suspect of the COTY awards
A selection of past winners........
2002 Ford Thunderbird
2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser
1997 Chevrolet Malibu
1996 Dodge Caravan
1995 Chrysler Cirrus
1991 Chevrolet Caprice Classic LTZ
1990 Lincoln Town Car
1983 AMC / Renault Alliance
1981 Chrysler K Cars, Dodge Aries / Plymouth Reliant
1980 Chevrolet Citation
1978 Chrysler, Dodge Omni / Plymouth Horizon
of course looking backwards is easy, but for gods sake, there had to be better choices

haha I definitely see your point..but they are improving...at least they didn't choose Dodge Caliber as the car of the year..

In the CTS's case, I think it was a well deserved award. The interior alone is pretty much class leading. You won't find anything from the Japanese in this price range that comes close, not even from Lexus.

My mother's going to pick one up, trading in her '04 CTS. I went to the dealer with her and have to admit it is a phenomenal car, from a luxury/looks standpoint. The interior is top-notch. They've really figured out the transmission (her '04 always seems to be hunting for a gear - the '08 nails it). Yes it's heavy, but you don't notice it when driving...while you're not going to throw it around a curvy road, it's solid and planted and the pick-up is good.
She's getting the base V6 with an auto...I would even consider the DI upgrade with a 6-spd!

I think GM is finally doing the Nissan move and making better cars for great prices. I test drove the new Malibu and was so impressed. The interior is absolutely amazing.

i guess i always assumed the CTS was a competitor to the 3 series, A4, G35, etc. and the STS was the closer competitor to the 5series, A6, etc.
so..where does the STS fall then?

The STS is more the size of a 7er.
Based on this new interpretation of the Art & Science design, I can't wait for the new STS. If they follow the changes the CTS has, the new STS should be wider and more aggressive ... It would be a strong competitor.

I LOVE the new CTS and am very happy to see GM finally making something worth a crap (besides the Corvette). I am seriously considering the CTS (along with the G35/37, 335i, 135i, Hyundai coupe, and IS350) as my next new car......

I feel the need...
The big three are so uncool, that they're bound to be cool again. Everything old is new again, sorta like Lacoste. The General has a winner on it's hands!
I agree with dom, shrink it to 9/10ths, lose 400lbs and it's damn near perfect.

I have seen a few of them running around, a very very attractive car. They fixed what I felt was an odd looking proportions where it looked really tall. Anyway, I'm not sure I can say it can compete on passion since I haven't driven it, but I am looking forward to trying it. I also agree about the diet. Make it faster though weight savings!

Wow thats awesome for the new car GM obviously stepped it up for the new CTS and it shows.
However people are also mentioning the new Malibu and I am sorry but that car is horrible. It is ugly and lets not forget the resale value on those things is horrible.
