we can all agree that we'd like to see something like that

They might drop in that turbo V6 in the Opel-whatever. Turbo V6 Caddy and turbo V6 Buick Direct injection too?! That's one way to inject youth into those two brands.

A V variant with a V-8 would be a nice C63 killer.

I hope it looks like that. It's beautiful. And yeah it should be RWD (the new Alpha platform).
I speculate a 2.0 turbo, maybe a 3.0 direct injection, and probably the 2.8 turbo, AWD option too. GM says a turbo 3.6 can easily make 425 hp, so with the next M3 going I-6 again they may get the ATS-V competitive that way.
I very well may buy one of these, whatever engine goes around 300 hp and RWD.

Burning Brakes
Bet u anything they drop that stupid 3.0L V6 in there and make the 3.6 optional. Why is that horrible 3.0 (which makes less HP and gets worse mpg) even on the roster?

Cadillac: ATS news **V Coupe Spied (page 6)**
Anyone think the Cadillac ATS has any shot at getting mentioned in the same breath as the C-class, 3-series, and A4? Supposed to be a hi-po ATS-V version too.

atsforums: GM has announced this morning its plan to produce the Cadillac ATS at its Grand River Assembly Plant in Lansing, MI and a $190M investment to go along with it.
Good timing then that an early prototype of the Cadillac ATS was just spied. Using a Cadillac CTS body shell for disguise, this ATS rides on the smaller Alpha platform and as clearly seen, the front and rear axles have been moved towards the middle of the chassis on this mule. The fuel filler door has also been moved towards the center by several inches.

I've been looking forward to getting a look at this for quite a while now. I hope it's close to what they claim.

I have faith it'll likely be a viable alternative to the usual suspects.

Good idea as the CTS, much like the TL, is a often seen as a tweener and is usually considered to be too big for that smaller sedan market. Acura has the TSX to combat that and Lexus has the smaller IS below the ES and GS and the extra sedan has worked well for them. Because of that I wouldn't necessarily call it a TL fighter.

Isn't it just a Saab?
EDIT: That's the BLS.
Which 2.0 litre turbo 4 are they referring to? The Ecotec in the Solstice GXP/Sky Redline?
And I doubt it'll get the 3.0 or 3.6 DI, otherwise it'll kill CTS sales.
But I would like to see an ATS-V with, hmm, an LS3 maybe? It's not entirely out of the question, since they put the LS9 in the CTS-V.

The sizzle in the Steak
Maybe I missed the fine-print, but is this car FWD or RWD?

It'll need the good V6 if want's a piece of that 3-series-and-company market. Then I could see them stepping around the V8 option for the V version with a supercharged V6 similar to how Audi did with the new S4

If Caddy comes with a weak sauce motor, they have no shot at denting the 3series....especially a 335 etc.

The big news powertrain-wise is that the ATS should get a turbocharged four-cylinder. Initial reports suggested the ATS would get GM’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four, but we now hear that GM could be developing an all-new 2.5-liter mill. A V6 option is almost a given, but it remains to be seen if GM will offer the ATS with its 3.0-liter V6 or 3.6-liter V6. It’s not out of the question that GM could package the ATS with both six-cylinder powerplants, but a 3.0-liter turbocharged unit from the SRX seems most likely.
A V performance version of the ATS is expected – especially given BMW’s popular M3 – but that car’s engine remains a mystery. However, with more stringent CAFE regulation looming, we’d put our money on a forced induction V6 rather than a V8.

Won't this car take a nice fat chunk out of CTS sales?

It will take simply because it will be the new entry car for Caddy and could be similar to the CTS in offerings and at a cheaper price point but it shouldn't take too much that the CTS will be in jeopardy and the sedan sales total should increase by a significant margin now that they have more market covered.
The difference here unlike other brands such as BMW with the 3 and 5 series is that Caddy has not had a typical small entry car from the start and many chose the CTS because it was the starter Caddillac. A decline is expected when you move a car away from the larger market in the entry segment to the smaller market of mid level but I think the bigger issue, much like Acura and Lexus, is that the larger tweener car always takes away from the dedicated mid level, so it's the STS that suffers because of the CTS and that will continue and worsen. They currently don't offer a V8 model STS or V any longer.
I suppose they are going to bump the CTS to full mid level duty with the ATS slotted below it as an entry and either follow with a full sized STS flagship to replace the current generation STS and DTS or maybe drop them altogether in favor of a new label called the XTS. Either way that car will likely be aimed at the S class and 7 series vehicles.

Especially the V version. You can almost guarantee its going to be a very potent car for its size/price

This is one of the cars that has me in a quandary as to whether I should put off replacing my TL for another 18 months.
The CTS is going to be getting even bigger in the next generation, so the ATS will be a good size for Caddy as well.
