Buick: Riviera news **2013 Version Revealed (page 2)**

AUTOBLOG-

Autoblog Chinese has the early word on Buick's Shanghai Motor Show concept, and it's got another familiar name attached to it: Riviera. Better still, it's a coupe -- no Dodge Charger-style door growth here. The Riviera is being called a "global" concept that showcases Buick's future design DNA. Penned at GM's Pan Asia Technical Center, the Shanghai show is just the first venue at which it'll be shown. According to AB Chinese's report, it will travel to other international auto shows afterward. Hopefully that schedule will include next year's North American exhibitions, where there will likely be no shortage of people interested in seeing the Riviera nameplate on a modern Buick coupe, concept or otherwise.

The Riviera features a traditional coupe profile with short front and rear overhangs and a tall nose that we sure meets pedestrian safety requirements in a number of markets. Not traditional, however, are the car's oversized gullwing doors, which allow for wide entrance into the Riviera's apparent 2+2 interior layout. We should have a lot more on this car next week as the Shanghai show gets rolling.

We're left scratching our heads as to why the US division insists on using silly names like LaCrosse and Lucerne for its cars, while China manages to see the value in leveraging the traditional American monikers with some history behind them, like Regal, Park Ave, and now Riviera.

Damnit... the Chinese have a much better vision of what Buick should be than the U.S. does. Ironically, it's vision is what Buick was in it's heyday, when it existed only in the U.S. Go fuckin' figure. It's not to late to save Buick, but it's getting close. This Riveria needs to become a realityl... globally.

Wow...that's nice!

Like I said in the other thread about Buick, I think it's just GM's way of conceding NA to the Japanese and Koreans...?

Very nice looking concept. The overall styling is reminiscent of the 2G Lexus IS.

it does kinda look like the current IS.

and it looks good. been impressed with these overseas buicks.

i can't stop wondering why these overseas buicks are so much nicer and cooler looking than the ones here.

i guess 50-60 year olds in china like driving modern-looking cars, moreso than the 50-60 year olds here.

You can't stop wondering why they're nicer and cooler? It's because the demographics for the brand in Buick are totally different. There aren't a bunch of 50-60 yr. olds in China driving around in Buicks. Only in the U.S. I'm sure there are a few, but that's not the target audience. It's a more youthful, professional, aspirational, luxurious brand in China. Basically, what it was 40 years ago, when the old people driving the cars now were young and hip, lol.

The people responsible for shooting the people in charge of Buick have regrettably gotten tied up in union litigation. The people responsible for shooting someone in the GM Buick division should be shot...

Interior shots. Very interesting use of materials. The ambient lighting is awesome. In China, Buick is cutting edge.

Buick has had some pretty cool concepts over the years.. but none of them really go into production. I think this will be the same. It is hot though

It amazes me that the concepts from Buick are always so nice and imaginative , but no one can seem to translate that to their production vehicles. I am happy with the concept but saddened at the same time because this car will never see production, and regardless of what they say, neither will the design cues of any relevance.

The Chinese have learnt a lot of good things from Buick and are now going to make their own stuff that looks pretty nice:
