Fake wood or not, the whole car is not attractive. It looks like they restyled/rebadged a grand prix.

Buick planning up-level LaCrosse - - By JAMIE LAREAU | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS - - Source: AUtoweek

Buick will get a "super" version of the LaCrosse. That's an "up-level edition," Larson said. It will include new front-end treatments, such as a waterfall grille, and a V-8 engine. Larson said pricing has not been set.

Buick starts production on the Enclave crossover this fall and likely will start production on the super LaCrosse at that time, he said.

Larson also said Buick expects to sell 8,000 Lucerne sedans a month this year.

GM to offer Buick LaCrosse Super with Velite design cues

GM to offer Buick LaCrosse Super with Velite design cues

A Buick LaCrosse Super sedan, with design elements from the 2004 Buick Velite concept, will come to market in the next few years, according to Edmunds. It will have a 300 horsepower V8 and an updated interior to differentiate from the regular LaCrosse. The “Super” designation signifies premium versions of Buick models. The introduction of this model is part of an effort to bring Buick upmarket.

^ (sigh). I they're going to take the 5.3L V8 out of the Impala SS, and transplant it here. The "updated interior" should be standard for every model. I thought this car was to be introduced later this year, not in a "few years."

DETROIT — A Buick LaCrosse Super, which takes its exterior design cues from the well-received 2004 Buick Velite convertible concept, will hit the market within the next few years, Inside Line has learned.

The car will begin to make its media rounds starting on March 28 in New York and again at the Buick Open in Grand Blanc, Michigan, in July. It will not be shown at the upcoming New York auto show, however.

Buick spokesman Dave Darovitz told IL that the LaCrosse Super will be equipped with a 300-plus-hp V8, the first V8 in the LaCrosse sedan. "It will have exterior styling heavily inspired by the Velite, including a waterfall grille," he said. "It's a good bet it will have portholes, too."

Darovitz said the LaCrosse Super will have interior differentiation from the current LaCrosse. He would not specify exactly when the model will hit the market, only vaguely describing it as "the next few years."

"We're not close to talking pricing yet, either," Darovitz said.

There are no plans for a Buick Lucerne Super at this time. The Super designation, which goes back to 1940, signifies the most premium trim level.

"The whole vision for Buick is to move upmarket and bring more style and technology to the portfolio," he said.

What this means to you: Buick is still leafing through its rich heritage for cures to its lingering malaise.

The lowest-level trim of the LaCrosse should be phased out, and uplevel features should be added to the other trims.

Styling cues from the front of the Velite would be a good family look for Buick.

All future Buicks are supposed to have do just as you said. The Lucerne was to be the first (with the Velite style grill), but the front fascia is still to bulbous, IMO. I think the Enclave's front styling is a much better interpretation of the Velite's design themes.

Buick always does this thing, they add nice chrome rimms and things that would normally be nice touches and ignore everything they are putting that on top of.

they need to inject some vette into the buick

LACROSSE SS? - - Source: Autoweek

About this time next year, Buick will roll out a more powerful LaCrosse dubbed Super. The four-door, front-drive midsize sedan will be powered by the same 5.3-liter, 303-hp V8 found in the Chevrolet Impala SS. The Super features a bolder version of the signature Buick grille and a larger, chrome-trimmed rear bumper along with a more luxurious interior. Other upgrades include standard 18-inch alloy wheels, four-wheel ventilated disc brakes and MagneRide suspension. GM says 0 to 60 mph will be less than 6.0 seconds.

LOL, you're giving up on the car already? It's a nice car.

But again, they sell a brazillion to the rental monkeys so the resale is going to be for shit ... Which is why I won't buy a GM car that is sold to fleets.

^ Agreed. There's nothing wrong with the car at all, per se. But it's a rental darling, and a stop gap built on the old W-body until a proper ES competitor debuts with the next gen car. I think the exterior will certainly look better, with a Velite-inspired grill, etc. The addition of the V8 is cool; it's a good way to keep interest up untill the next car comes.

GM has released a teaser image for the 2010 Buick LaCrosse that will make its official debut at the 2008 LA Auto Show this November. According to GM’s Bob Lutz, the 2010 LaCrosse will take major design cues from the Buick Invicta concept that was shown at Auto China 2008.

The Buick Invicta Concept is powered by a direct-injection 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 250-hp and 220 lb-ft of torque.

This is a promising teaser. I think that the black plastic grill we saw in the naked spy shot earlier this year wasn't for production. The interior is sure to be on point. I just hope the exterior can live up to expectations.

^Hopefully! maybe it was just to throw everyone off. I usually don't like a bunch of chrome on the grill, but the Invicta pulled it off really well. And hopefully they offer packages with 18s or 19s.... doubtful but they should have something like that for an option.

Yeah. I think the siliver plastic, with just those slits of chrome facing outward is very classy. I'm pretty sure atleast 18s would be available as an option or package.

I want to recant this statement as I realized two years later that at the time of posting, I confused the LaCrosse with the Lucerne.

The LaCrosse is a hunk of shit. I drove one as a rental. Hated it.

New details emerge on 2010 Buick LaCrosse

General Motors’ Buick brand is in need of a freshening, which will come in the form of the next-generation LaCrossee. Although the next-gen LaCrosse has been put on hold for a few months, new details have surfaced on the near-luxury sedan, which should give us a pretty good idea of what to expect from the LaCrosse — whenever it finally takes the show stage.

According to GM Inside News, the 2010 Buick LaCrosse will be offered with two powerplants – a base 3.0L V6 and an up-level 3.6L V6.

The LaCrosse’s base motor is all-new for GM, but won’t be skimping on high-level features. The new powerplant will feature direct-injection, which will aid in both performance and fuel economy. Expect the 3.0L to produce 250 horsepower but still return about 30 mpg on the highway.

The LaCrosse’s step-up motor will be a version of the Cadillac CTS’s 3.6L V6. It too will feature direct-injection, but will be slightly detuned from CTS-guise, putting out a still healthy 290 hp. Both powerplants will be mated to GM’s 6T70 six-speed automatic transmission.

The LaCrosse is also set to feature a plethora of luxury content, such as HID headlamps, a rear-view camera and a heads-up display. All-wheel drive is also said to be part of the mix, but no word if the LaCrosse’s AWD option will be reserved for 3.6L cars.

A V8 LaCrosse huh?

More bad medicine from the General to be sure. GM needs another V8 powered car about as bad as Acura needs another SUV in it's lineup

Okay ill admit it, I read the outdated thread title and commented. The DI V6 is pretty neat; hopefully GM can figure out a way to get it into a more interesting vehicle is what I really mean.

Anyway, back to what's important... the volume seller of the Buick brand the financial anchor and reason the brand still has a business case in the NA market... This car has to be on target is every arena, and outshine the ES350 to be successful. These first few hints of what to expect are extremely encouraging.

It's going to take a lot to do that. As much as I hate the ES for what it is (a rebadged Camry), you can't deny how much that car coddles you.

Every year I step into one at the auto show, and despite being at the lower end of the Lexus lineup, you simply don't feel like you're in the base car. There's real wood and rich leather and good quality plastics.

With Acuras, you definitely can feel it. The TSX does not feel like an RL redux. The ES feels like the LS on a smaller scale.

And back to the Buick...Gm hasn't really impressed to the level of Lexus for a long time. Let alone target its entry level sedan and actually get it right or better it, it's going to take a lot. Edmunds has a write up on the Buick Lucerne, and while they liked it, the chrome and faux wood produced glare to the driver. In a way they overdid it, and not with the right materials either. Even the faux wood don't match.

I agree. GM's promise that Buick will be a brand to rival Lexus (similar to how they promised Caddy would rival the Germans) hasn't panned out. The Enclave is the best effort to date, though the lack of things like genuine wood in it's interior is still puts it to a disadvantage. My argument isn't that Buick is already on par with Lexus, but that if this next Lacrosse (whose name should have been Invicta, IMO) doesn't help get them much closer to Lexus in a big way the Buick name may not survive in it's birth country for the long haul. Of course, in China, it's not going anywhere...

2010 Lacrosse Revealed

* • 2010 LaCrosse gives the Lincoln MKZ something to worry about.
* • Available with two V6 direct-injection engines.
* • Mated to Hydra-Matic 6T70 6-speed automatic.
* • Available in front wheel or all-wheel-drive.

GM has released the details and images of the 2010 Buick LaCrosse prior to its world debut at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. As you can see from the pictures the car stays true to the Buick Invicta concept car introduced at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show.

Besides the new exterior that defines Buick’s new modern global design, the 2010 LaCrosse features a luxurious two-tone interior that is crafted from premium materials and highlighted with a cool blue ambient lighting. Buick’s signature QuietTuning reduces interior noise providing a comfortable and quiet interior for the passegners while they enjoy a variety of personal technologies. The technologies include a in-dash navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, AUX audio input and a USB port. Rear-seat passengers can get a DVD entertainments system with 2-display screens integrated into the seatbacks. Other technologies include a head-up display, Side Blind Zone alert and a rear-view camera.

The 2010 Buick LaCrosse will be available in three different trim-levels including CX, CXL and CXS:

CX – equipped with a new 3.0L direct injection V6, premium cloth seats and 17-inch wheels. The 3.0L engine generates an estimated 255 horsepower and 211 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
CXL – also equipped with the new 3.0L direct injection V6, adds leather-appointed heated seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, fog lamps, outside rearview mirror with LED turn indicators and puddle lamps, and 18-inch wheels. Intelligent AWD is available.
CXS – equipped with a 3.6L direct injection V-6; real-time active-dampening suspension; perforated, leather-appointed, heated and cooled seats, and chrome-plated 18-inch wheels (19-inch optional). The 3.6L engine, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, generates an estimated 280 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque.

Buick estimates fuel-economy on the 255-hp 3.0L V6 at 18/27 mph (city/highway). The 3.6L V6 returns an estimated 17/26 mpg.

Production of the 2010 Buick LaCrosse will launch this summer with sales to start later in 2009.
