Post Veyron Successor: 0-60MPH in 2 seconds

From here: Bugatti Veyron Successor To Do 0-60 MPH In 2.0 Seconds: Report

Bugatti just sold its final Veyron, which means full attention for the crew in Molsheim, France has turned to the car’s successor, a new supercar tipped to be called the Chiron and packing a hybrid powertrain. Early test mules for the car have been spotted, but no new details could be ascertained from these as they still resemble the original Veyron.

Some things we do know about the car is that it will feature an upgraded version of the Veyron’s quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W-16 engine. The engine currently produces 1,184 horsepower in its most potent setting but with the addition of a new fuel injection system, an integrated electric motor, and perhaps even electrically-driven turbochargers, we could see output boosted significantly.

CAR is reporting that output of the Veyron successor will register at a staggering 1,500 horsepower and 1,106 pound-feet of torque. While these might seem like impossible numbers for a production car, recall that rival supercar marque Koenigsegg has just launched its Regera with 1,500 hp and 1,475 lb-ft of torque.

And with 1,500 hp on tap, the Veyron successor is said to be capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in just 2.0 seconds, down from 2.5 seconds in the 1,184-hp Veyron Super Sport. Top speed, meanwhile, is said to be as high as 288 mph, or about 20 mph faster than the land speed record-holding Veyron Super Sport.

The unveiling of the Veyron successor, whatever it's called, is expected to take place next year.

The 1250hp production GTR is not happening.

LM car =/= production car.

That's like saying the production TLX is the same as the race TLX

Thanks for posting that, Yummy. Bugatti is in desperate need of a new marketing company.

In doing the unthinkable, Bugatti CEO Stephan Winkelmann told Australian website CarAdvice there won’t be another 16-cylinder Bugatti engine after this one. Preposterous! Who could imagine a future where people could, potentially, get close to counting the cylinders in their Bugatti on their... fingers?

Well, a lot of people can. Whether it’s more due to tightening emissions standards or everyone wanting to be a mobility company, the future of cars is about efficiency, electricity and not using so much gas. Bugatti’s W-shaped 16-cylinder gas engine, which gets a combined 11 mpg in the 1,500-horsepower Chiron in U.S. government estimates, don’t exactly fit that mold.

Bugatti, whose current car lineup of the Chiron, Chiron Sport and the new Divo is entirely powered by its quad-turbocharged W16, decided it’s finally time to get with the emissions program like everyone else. That means phasing out the W16, because sooner or later, Winkelmann told CarAdvice, “legislation will force everybody to take radical steps.”

From CarAdvice:

Power outputs for the monster mill have grown steadily since it was introduced in the Veyron 13 years ago, and may well expand further, but Bugatti CEO Stephan Winkelmann has confirmed it won’t be replaced once its time is up. [...]

“There will be no new 16-cylinder, this will be the last of its kind. It is an incredible engine and we know there is huge enthusiasm for it, everybody would like to have it forever, to continue to develop it – we will do our utmost to keep it alive... but if you want to be on the edge with advanced technology it’s important you choose the right moment to change.”
Winkelmann told CarAdvice Bugatti will have to do some form of electrification in its cars eventually, but that whatever Bugatti does will need performance matching that of the W16. It’ll also need to be a credible solution “for the people who are buying Bugattis today,” he said.

But don’t say your goodbyes to the W16 just yet. Even though he said the engine won’t have a 16-cylinder successor, Winkelmann told CarAdvice Bugatti could have some more fun playing around with it before it leaves. From the story:

“When I was at Lamborghini I always said power to weight ratio is the key, we always reckoned that one kilo less is more important than one horsepower more,” he said.
Pour one out for the dying W16, which, despite not having a successor, will no doubt make Bugatti owners pour out the contents of their bottomless wallets at gas stations for many years to come.

To celebrate its 110th anniversary, Bugatti will organize a grand tour of places where Italian-born company founder Ettore Bugatti was active through his life. The ultra-limited edition Divo will also enter production at the Molsheim factory this year, joining the Chirons and Chiron Sports on the line. Having built 87 last year, Bugatti expects its W16-powered hypercar's production to last until the end of 2021.

Although the Chiron Sport project was started under Wolfgang Dürheimer's direction, the Divo is Stephan Winkelmann's doing. The former Lamborghini boss is known to be tired of the horsepower wars, and aware that Bugatti's quad-turbo W16 engine has no future after the Chiron.

Now, Winkelmann announced that Bugatti will not try to top Lamborghiniin the game of pointless performance SUVs. "There will be no SUV from Bugatti," the CEO said. "An SUV would not do justice to the brand or its history."

Bugatti's declaration that it will not build an SUV makes it the second supercar maker, after McLaren, to announce that it won't jeopardize the brand in the pursuit of volume.

Even though Bugatti won't build an SUV, Winkelmann didn't say that company would only build supercars. What about a Bugatti luxury sedan?

Bugatti has the luxury of not being a real brand and instead just the mega project of Volkswagen group. Bugatti doesn't have to sell SUVs because all the other brands do.

Good news fellow plebeians! Bugatti has unveiled a vehicle we common folk may actually be able to afford… and it’s an EV. Sounds too good to be true? It is. The French hypercar maker unveiled its first electric scooter at CES. Exciting, I know.

Bugatti teamed up with U.S. company Bytech International – who describes themselves as “an active trendsetter in the mobile accessories industry” – to unveil an all-electric foldable scooter.

The scooter rides on nine inch wheels and is powered by a 700-watt electric motor. That’s good enough to help it climb up a 15 degree incline. Electric charge comes from a 36 volt, 10 amp hour battery that will give it about a 22 mile range. The battery can be removed and recharged from a regular wall outlet in around 4 hours. A magnesium alloy frame means it only weighs 35 pounds.

Because this is a Bugatti and not some run of the mill e-scooter, it comes with some niceties you would expect from a company that exclusively makes cars costing over $1,000,000. It has a digital dash that includes speed and battery light, as well as a real light that projects the famous “EB” logo, so those riding behind you know you’re better than them.

Safety features include things like turn signals, a headlight and a taillight.

If you’re expecting any sort of breakneck speeds from the Bugatti scooter think again. The scooter has three drive modes – Economy, City and Sport. Each mode will give you top speeds of 9mph, 12.5 mph and 18.5 mph respectively. Though those speeds will probably go down depending on how much you weigh. It’s rated to carry riders up to 242 pounds.

It’s hard to say who this scooter is really for. Pricing hasn’t been released yet, but it’s probably safe to assume it will cost a fair bit more than regular e-scooters, meaning it will most likely be out of the price range for regular folks. It’s also hard to imagine people who already own Bugattis will bother to have an e-scooter as well.

There is just one group this scooter is for – YouTubers who can post a video saying “I bought the world’s cheapest Bugatti.”

While the headlines are being grabbed by battery-electric vehicles and small-displacement plug-in hybrids, Bugatti is throwing caution to the wind and stuffing a hybrid V-16 powerplant in the center of its next hypercar. The French hypercar manufacturer confirmed the news by means of this 26-second teaser video showcasing the new powertrain speeding through the gears.

"With each generation of its hyper sports car, Bugatti has shifted the benchmark of design, engineering, performance and craftsmanship to new heights. And this year, eight years to the day since the Chiron was revealed, Bugatti shows the world the first page of the newest chapter in its rich history," Bugatti said in a statement.

The new car, along with the new powertrain, will be revealed this June, but Bugatti poetically says it was designed not just for the present but "pour l’éternité." An eternity is a long time, but after listening to that clip, we're not here to argue.

We've known for a while now that Bugatti would be shifting to a hybrid setup for its next car. After all, the brand
merged with the Croatian automaker Rimac in 2021, and Bugatti's former chief of design, Achim Anscheidt, confirmed the news last year. Unfortunately, if you're in the market for one of the $5 million Mistral roadsters, you're out of luck as all 99 have been sold since 2022.

Hold the front page! In fact, hold the back page too. Hold all of the pages, because we’ve got our hands on a spy shot of Bugatti’s next hypercar.

Yep, this is your very first glimpse at the Chiron’s successor. Pretty proportions, aren’t they? The sweeping C remains in the side profile and is actually more pronounced than ever, while the rear diffuser looks like it might be the size of a whole Suzuki Swift. Pop-up rear spoiler and a traditional low nose too, plus a sweeping line of LED rear lights.

Of course, we already know that Bugatti is moving away from its old 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 engine for this car, but rather than downsizing it’ll be replaced by an equally bonkers V16. Oh, and there will be hybrid assist to help bump up the power figure. We’d expect said figure to be considerable and the resulting acceleration to be mind-blowing. Obviously.
