Although there is a separate thread for the BMW 2-Series I decided that "M", "AMG", etc. cars, deserve separate threads.

Did it give any numbers?

35k base with 300 hp would be perfect.

No way 300HP. Rumors call for 240-250HP from a 2.2 - 2.4 liter engine.

I'm going to reserve judgement. The stuff I saw on the 1-series back in the Fall looked 100x better than that POS they released.

I thought that the 1 series wont show up in the US until its next redesign (2010) because there will only be a hatch ..... cant remember where I read it ...maybe autoweek? SO, the question is, how come the M2 looks like a coupe? Will the 2 series be a coupe with a hatch type opening ala Scion tC and Acura RSX? If so, why wont it make it to the US? A low price BMW coupe should appeal to all those who obsess about a BMW but cant afford it...right?

Heh, BNW 3-series have had them for a while before the E46 models.

Especially the E36 318i and 318ti

It's confusing, I know. We wont see the 1-Series in its hatch form, as you said. Though the COUPE version of the 1-series is this 2 Series car you see above (in M form). That we will see. So no 1-series but yes to the 2-series.

the e46 323 came with hubcaps standard. When they did the switch to the 325 thats when the regular wheels became standard.

OK, true, so how bout 45k for an optioned out M2...that sounds resonable, cause its like 55k for an optioned out M3....still not worth it.

No way it's going to be that high.

Who is going to cross-shop a 4-cylinder M2 and a 6-cylinder G35C? Maybe dumbass status-shoppers, but are there enough of them? I don't think so.

I can't see an M2 being more than $35k loaded. Any more than that and it's stupid.

BMW is the king of the Yuppie market... they could get away with more. Somehow. Also, they could make a car that outhandles the G35.

The M2 is going to be smaller than the G35C ... I'd be surprised if it was much longer than an S2000.

I guess I underestimated the materialism of the yuppie

The only way this car outhandles the G35 is because it's smaller, and therefore more nimble. The G35 is positioned a level higher, competing against the current 3-Series from BMW. The proper matchup will be how the G35 competes against the upcoming 4-Series (which will be the coupe version of the next gen 3-Series).

I could rock this if it weighs under 3000lbs. Being it is an M, that means manual and high revving engine. I am sure it will be a driver's car.
If the current M3 is a 50k car, this would be a 35k car, IMO. Like the E36 M3.

The 1 series is supposed to be as long as the BMW 2002 of the 80s. I expect the 2 series to be about as long.
