If 530I is $38k I would persuade my parents to consider it. $44k is just too much for a 3.0L mid-sized car, even it is a BMW.
By the way, what is TV? It has television?

The 5-Series is a sweet car, but BMW has a lot of nerve to make something like Leather seating a 1,500-dollar OPTION on a car that costs 45,000 dollars BASE.

Wagons are all the rage in Europe. It's like how SUV's are here. The new Merc E-class wagon looks pretty good though. . .

Spy Video: BMW M5
Here is some breaking news. Our exclusive footage proves that all three German premium makes, Mercedes, BMW and Audi, are currently preparing exciting hot saloons in the mid-class. What's more, they are all testing them at the very challenging north-loop of the German Nürburgring racing circuit - and at the same time!
The BMW M5 is expected to debut in Paris in October 2004 and the exterior of the will be characterized by huge 19-inch wheels, wider door-sills, chrome-less window frames and an additional air-intake behind the front wheel houses. The front will be dominated by a bigger airdam, strongly reminding of the M3's front, the rear end will feature a clustered skirt and two pairs of exhaust pipes. The new M5's heart will be a 5-litre V10 developing 510 HP... @Automedia

BMW 5 Series not "well taken"
Top Cat - Jaguar rejoice as UK car magazines rate S-Type as best drivers car, whilst stating the new BMW-5 is "Average" and the E-Class "Mediocre".
Insiders at BMW are initially quoting this as a disaster, indeed there are rumours that the Quandt family are singularly unimpressed with both designers and engineers for trying too hard to out-do Jaguar and Mercedes. The result? Lack of interest from customers. Where orders once went in sight-unseen, people are now waiting to see the car in person. BMW's board is stunned.
Meanwhile, Jaguar engineers at Browns Lane, Coventry, England are rejoicing as UK car magazines rate the new BMW-5 as "Average" and "no longer the ultimate driving machine" in recent road test reviews. Pitted against the 3-litre S-Type, 3.2-litre E-Class and a 3-litre 5-Series, the big cat came out on top as the best car,and most importantly, the best overall drivers car. The Bee Emm has been champion for a long time now and already it has a bloody nose from it's first fight!
According to reporters, BMW have made the new 5 "ponderous" and "strangely uninvolving" and some suggest that the variable rate steering is "not a success". Whilst inside the car, ergonomics are best described as "ill thought out". Those who have seen the car in British sunlight say that the BMW 7 looks better - and you know how lamented that has been!
In the UK, buyers are being offered cars within weeks of the launch, and some importers quicker than that - suggesting an apathy to the car from an early stage. I have it on quiet authority that those in the BMW board who are not completely arrogant are aware that the 5-series is the companies most important model range and were it to fail (ala 7-series), the unthinkable could happen. After all, it is rumoured that Daimler/Chrysler are still looking for acquisitions!

HA!!! I'm glad the BMW arrogance is starting to be diminished! I personally think most of these new BMW designs both interior and exterior are terrible. Glad to see others agree

It is not a terrible looking car, just a terrible BMW. It would do well as a Toyota, reminds me alot of the Camry.
Which brings me to a question: what is so much better about a 5 series than an Accord or Camry. As far as I am concerned, not enough.

Having owned a 5 series, even an 85. Have you ever really truly driven one? Its fucking amazing. You feel so connected to the road, the car is so spirited, handles so pristinly. Its such an indivdual driving experience that youll only ever feel driving one. I got to drive my uncles 2000 5 series and my friend has a 2002 545 6spd. They feel just like my old 85 but so much more refined, so much more amazing.
Bimmers truly are the ultimate driving machine. Just right now they are the greatest looking ones.
