Why is everyone all up on the SMGs nutz? Yes it probably the best auto/manual ever made, but I still want a clutch any day of the week.

yeah yeah, but to me and me only it defeats the purpose of owning a car like that. Unless you are in a position where you are unable to drive manual. Hell, I deal with shitty LA traffic everyday and until I'm physically unable, no auto for me.

If they made the smg feel like a real manual in terms of shifting through a gears in standard formation rather then tap up to upshift and down to down shft i might be down with that. but up/down = boring.

This isnt supposed to be an argurment I'm just stating my personal opinion. And no not everyone can drive a stick. But a lot of people who are old enough to buy that car still learned to drive when the majority of standard transmission were still stick.

BTW one of my friends has a 6spd 540. They are cars with more then lots of sportiness, its pretty much a 4 door sports car. No M5 but its fast as hell and handles on rails.

OMG how, these people must love giving BMW a rim job. This kinda shit drives me up the fawkin wall.

Thrusting that suspension through curves is your choice of three engines and three transmissions, none of which is new: the entry-level 2.5-liter straight six, 3.0-liter straight six and the mighty 4.4-liter V8. They’re the same great, torque-happy, smooth-revving engines we’ve loved for years.
Aside from the v8 the car is much to heavy and the v6 options don't provide adequate power. No friggin way....

weight: 3450
Base Engine Type: Inline 6 Horsepower: 184 hp
Max Horsepower: 6000 rpm Torque: 175 ft-lbs.

weight: 3494
Base Engine Type: Inline 6 Horsepower: 225 hp
Max Horsepower: 5900 rpm Torque: 214 ft-lbs.

More bullshit

We spent most of the next day in a six-speed automatic, which was also fun on the winding, diving skinny strings of blacktop fettuccini that pass for roads in Sardinia.

HUH? now all of a sudden the BMW automatic is made of magic pixie dus?

I simply CANNOT BELIEVE they made my beloved 5 look like a freaking Japanese car. That car has NO German styling what so ever. I am truly sad.

Honestly, take off the BMW badges and it looks like a Toyota, Kia, Honda, Daewoo, anything....Sad...

At first I didn't like the exterior look, but the rear isn't looking so bad now (at least on the blue one in the pic posted earlier in this thread). I do agree with 1SICKLEX though in that it does have that Japanese car styling now. I'm going to wait until I see it in person, but I think this look will grow on me. The 7-series still looks like crap to me though. I really don't like the interior though, it looks too damn plain. Cheap even, I mean it has that budget rental car look, hopefully it's just the pic.

BMW: M5 news **Diesel Version Confirmed (Page 20)**

Rumors are flying across the internet, that the new M5, will get a brand new 7-speed transmission.

There is supposed to be a manual and SMG (III) version of the seven speed.

This promises to be quite a car!

7 speed, does this not seem just one speed too many? starting to sound like an 18 wheeler.

yes 7-speed smg is overkill for the shifting fun factor, probably increases acceleration though.

Increases acceleration and decreases gas consumption.

2005 BMW M5 interior photo

Just add the M-series logo to the lower post of the steering wheel and assorted M logos strategically placed throughout the cabin and you have it.

Note the cool paddle shifters for the upcoming 7-speed SMG.

where the hell is the audio? seems like you have a recessed nav above the vents and something below the heater-a/c controls, but if that thing below is the audio, it is not placed very well.

They won't seel it that dark, and with the absense of a cd player/navi system. I bet you will see some aluminum sprinkled around, with alot more high gloss carbon fibre.

The shape is bangin though.

Looks kinda plain to me. Too much black.

I think that screen in the top center of the dash is the nav, like in the 7 series.

The audio is likely controlled on the Nav screen with the i-drive thingy.

it looks like a regular 5 photoshopped to black n white, they just colored some of the swtiches. i like black interiors, but this one is too much.

agreed.

Im sure its just the pic that makes it look too dark. Im sure it willl have an option of the sporty trim thats found in the m3, which i have

I kno its blends in the dash but i didnt want trim that stood out, i feel this looks more sporty

Thats way too dark for my taste. I'm sure the production model will get some color to it. Still looks pretty good however.

Now that looks good. It doesn't take much, just something other that black here and there.
