What the article suggests is that there might be some other car above the 335 - what I was trying to say is, no, the 335 and 650 are it for coupes (for now) with the 335 on its way.

I can't see how a 4 series could even fit into the lineup unless it was a minivan with the prices of the 3 versus a 5.

BMW 4 series
Autocar
These are the exclusive first scoop pictures of the new BMW 4-series coupe. The new 4-series is codenamed F32 and is due for a UK launch in mid-2014 as part of a radical shake-up of the new BMW 3-series line-up.
BMW has opted to name coupe and cabriolet versions of the 3-series as 4-series in its next generation to give it greater differentiation from the new BMW 3-series saloon, unveiled last week. This is a strategy mirrored for the 5-series, where the coupe and cabriolet versions of that car are named as 6-series, with distinct styling and driving experience.
Engines for the 4-series will of course lean heavily on the new range in the 3-series saloon. These will include a new turbocharged 242bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol unit for the 428i coupe.
The adoption of the 4-series name for the standard coupe also has implications for the M3. The coupe and cabriolet versions of the M3 will be rebadged as M4, and will be even more driver-focused than their four-door M3 saloon sibling. The M4 coupe will follow six months after the launch of the standard 4-series in late 2014.
The 4-series coupe will be the fifth of nine models to be launched in the new F30 3-series line-up. The saloon version will go on sale in February next year and will be followed in late 2012 by the F31 3-series Touring.
A new edition to the 3-series line-up, the high-riding F34 3-series GT crossover, will be launched in 2013. This car will be a large hatchback in the mould of the 5-series GT. It will have longer wheelbase (shared with the China-only long-wheelbase 3-series), a more spacious cabin and a larger boot.
The F30M M3 saloon follows in late 2013, before the F33 4-series coupe arrives in mid-2014. The 4-series cabriolet due shortly after the coupe will retain its retractable metal hard-top roof, despite pleas from BMW’s American importer for a soft-top to differentiate more from the coupe. F32M and F33M M4 versions of the 4-series coupe and cabriolet arrive in late 2014.
The final 3-series variant will be the F35 4-series GranCoupe. This four-door coupe is similar in concept to the soon-to-be-unveiled four-door 6-series GranCoupe. It gets the same long-wheelbase chassis as the 3GT and is BMW’s answer to the Audi A5 Sportback.
Engines for this model are likely to come from the higher-end of the line-up, which, along with higher specification, will mean a higher price than Audi asks for the A5 Sportback.

Huh? I think they're making things worse. I mean, really, were people THAT confused about what constituted a 3-Series? And, don't even get me started on all this "X-Drive" crap they're putting in the middle of car names; it's like car-naming by committee.

Plus they will have to spend extra money to market the "new" name.

People...Friendly reminder that chances are, there's already a thread in existence for a particular car line. Please do a search!

It's a step in the right direction but it's going to take them at least a decade to make it make sense.

First Look at 2014 BMW 4 Series (435i or 440i) F32 Coupe in Production Form!
It's been months since we last spied the 2014 4 Series (F32) Coupe, but here it is, in production form and nearly fully uncovered! What we see is a sleek sports coupe version of the F30 sedan which resembles a smaller 6 Series. This particular 4 Series coupe was captured while being loaded to be transported to an internal presentation. And yes, we are now certain that it will come to market as the "4 Series."
BODY
Compared to the current E92 3 Series coupe, the F32 features a sleeker roofline with a more fastback shaped tail end (though not nearly as dramatic as something like the Audi A7). The rear quarter windows have been elongated and end beautifully a more angular and sleeker hofmeister kink. See the comparison photo below between the F32 and E92 side profiles.
The most prominent styling embellishment visible so far is the front quarter panel vent, which not only adds a sporty visual flair, but also appears to be an actual functional vent. The F32 shares the same side mirrors as the F30.
This is a 435i (or 440i) Sport Line model and the visible parts of the front bumper show differences from the F30 Sport Line front bumper. There is a more prominent center U shaped trim piece which dips down from the inside of the air vents and forms a prominent lip below the license plate area. It also looks to be either black or carbon fiber. We've circled it in a close up image below.
As for the kidney grilles, we have already seen what shape the F32's kidney grilles will take (see previous spy photo). They will be wider and sleeker shaped compared to the F30 sedan. The headlights are expected to be a sleeker version of the F30 headlights, and also connecting with the grilles, as on the F30.
This car wears 19" M Sport Wheels (Style 403M) and runs 225 tires up front with 255 rear tires. The F32 435i/440i's brakes match that of the F30 335i - fixed M Sport calipers in front (4 piston) and floating rear calipers (1 piston).
POWERTRAIN
The 428i Coupe and Convertible will be powered by the same 2.0L twin turbo inline 4 as the F30, but the 435i (or 440i) may very well usher in the successor to the current N55 twin turbo inline 6 engine. Both engines will be available with either a manual transmission or 8-speed automatic, and both should also be available with xDrive.
TIMELINE
The F32 4 Series Coupe will begin production in July 2013 and the F33 Convertible's production will follow in November 2013. A concept 4 Series is reportedly headed for the 2013 Detroit Auto Show in January.
4 SERIES LINEUP
The 4 Series is the coupe variant to the current F30 3 Series sedan. There will no longer be a "3 Series Coupe" model. It should be positioned and priced in lineup just as the 6 Series Coupe is positioned in the 5/6 Series lineup.
Joining the F32 4 Series coupe and F33 4 Series convertible will be a four door "coupe" styled variant to be called 4 Series Gran Coupe (the F36) which should be positioned and priced in lineup just as the 6 Series Gran Coupe is positioned in the 5/6 Series lineup. See our recent spy photos of the F36.
There will be an M4 (F82) version based off the 4 Series coupe and there will also surely be M Performance Automobiles spawned off the F30 3 Series and F32 4 Series lineups (in the form of M335i, M435i, M340i, or M440i, etc..)
With the introduction of these models, the following will be the future 3/4 Series:
Summary:
F30 = 3 Series Sedan
F31 = 3 Series Touring
F32 = 4 Series Coupe
F33 = 4 Series Convertible
F34 = 3 Series GT
F35 = 3 Series Li (Long Wheelbase)
F36 = 4 Series Gran Coupe

That black boomerang on the side is pretty cheesy. I like the profile though.

The 3-series coupes and sedans have begun differentiating from each other anyway, why not split it off to a different lineup? IIRC the coupes are usually released later than the sedans and cost more as well, so this kinda makes sense.

That the vent design looks a bit out of place.....but I'd like to see if that still holds true after seeing the entire vehicle without camo.

I'm confused. Shouldn't the concept be revealed BEFORE the actual production model is completed? (at least looks completed from the spy pics)
