But 1 series and X1 will be FWD and AWD only for NA. so it is probably just a matter of time before BMW decided to change 2 series to FWD.
it will make sense if BMW lower the MSRP for the FWD models but i have a feeling that they are so greedy that they will keep the same MSRP as the old RWD and make more $$.

One of the BMW dealers by me has zero 2-series. None. I can't believe it. They haven't sold them all, they just didn't really order any.
That said, I think BMW is missing the boat on a more powerful 228i. But the current car is supposed to be pretty good with 240hp.
So yah it is confirmed that the new LCI 340 (old 335) will start production this summer.
It will have the new B58 eninge with 322hp.
Meh, i expected more power. I just learned something new today, the particular version of ZF8 in 3/4 series can only handle 330lbs of torque, where 3 Active Hybrid/5/6 series ZF8 can handle much much more.
I guess i will not be getting 335(340).. it does not have enough power for me to get another one....

This just gave BMW a good reason to continue building softer cars and the brand whoring.
BMW 3 Series was best selling premium car in U.S. in 2014
For the fifth straight year, the BMW 3 Series (4 Series included) was the best selling premium car in 2014 in the United States.
Here are the 2014 stats:
142,232 3-Series / 4-Series sold in U.S. in 2014
3-Series / 4-Series made up 42% of U.S. BMW sales
3-Series / 4-Series was America's 16th-best-selling car in 2014
3-Series / 4-Series sales reached highest level since 2007 (when 142,490 were sold)
3-Series hasn't been outsold in premium category since 2009
3 Series sold: 100,920
4 Series sold: 41,312
The runner up was the Lexus RX with 107,490 units sold.
For a more relevant comparison, Mercedes sold 75,065 C-Class last year.
BMW should do what Infiniti is doing and drop the electric power steering and go back to mechanical.
I have a friend who has an E93 328i and I love driving that car. She hates taking it in for service so I do it for her. The last time I got a base model 320i. I couldn't wait to get back into the E93. I have read the ones with sport suspension are 10 times better though.
As stated though clearly BMW knows what they're doing based on their sales.

I worry they are riding off the reputation of the roundel while actually diluting the brand. There are some great models, but there's a ton of dilution going on.

We will see what they do for the LCI in 2016. I am hoping they bring back LED tail lights, and make HID standard across all models.
I am really looking forward to seeing the numbers on the 340i. We will see what happens with the suspension as well. Hopefully some of the reviews that picked the IS350 over the 335i will be a wake up call.
A new report from Automobile Magazine sheds some light about what to expect from the next generation BMW M3.
The next generation 3-Series (codenamed G20) is expected to come out sometime in 2018 and will obviously spawn a new M3 (and M4 Coupe) likely before the end of the decade. It is believed the high-powered duo will continue with an inline-six engine just like the current cars but output will be boosted to as much as 500 HP (368 kW), representing a significant 69 HP (51 kW) increase. This will be possible by adopting a pair of electric turbochargers as well as a water injection system as previewed in the 2015 M4 Coupe MotoGP safety car.
As for the regular 3-Series, it will allegedly provide a softer ride but at the same time a sportier chassis featuring adjustable suspension dampers and switchable anti-roll bars. Moreover, expect an active steering system and torque vectoring working together with the ABS and stability control systems. The new 3-Series should boast a lower center of gravity and is believed to get wider tracks and a stretched wheelbase.
Other goodies planned for BMW's compact sedan include beefier brakes, adaptive suspension, revised AWD with faster torque distribution, reduced-friction wheel bearings and even aluminum & carbon fiber compound wheels. The 2.0- and 3.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engines will get more power and there should be at least two plug-in hybrid models. One of them will mix a three-cylinder 1.5-liter with a 60 kW electric motor while the other will get a larger four-cylinder 2.0-liter and a 90 kW electric motor. The former should offer an electric range of 30 miles (48 km) whereas the stronger model should do 50 miles (80 km) miles of zero-emission driving.
Riding on the CLAR (cluster architecture), the new BMW 3-Series is expected to provide a sportier design while on the inside expect to find pop-up speakers, voice-activated iDrive and a head-up display.
Following the sedan's launch, BMW will launch the 3-Series Touring (wagon) and 4-Series Coupe versions as well as a long wheelbase 3-Series Sedan for United States and China. Lastly, the report mentions BMW could decide to combine the 3-Series Gran Turismo and the 4-Series Gran Coupe models into a single car while the 4-Series Convertible is rumored to make the switch to a fabric roof.

At what point will the 3 series no longer be a compact sedan? I remember parking my E46 next to an F30 and being blown away as to how big the new car is, can't imagine it getting any bigger...

Similar with all cars it seems. I remember when I had my 93 Accord, seemed nearly Civic sized next to an 09 Accord.

In the US it's classified by interior volume. Only when it gets big enough inside will they move up a class I guess.

Sportline LCI vs. Pre-LCI (notice the Angel eye difference)
New B58 series engine 321hp/330lb torque with 8% better in fuel economy compare to N55
New Cup holder
Ambient lighting matching the interior highlight trims (dont know what that means. So if i have piano black trims, my ambient light will be blacklight?)
White gauge colors vs. orange
Others that i cannot find right now, all links have been removed
Overall, Meh, not as dramatic as the E9X LCI updates.
BMW competes with Mercedes on everything, including stupidity.
BMW's 4 banger has 240, Mercedes 4 banger has 241
BMW put an Ipad on the dash, Mercedes put it in front of the dash
BMW, 320,330,340, Mercedes, C300, C400, C450 (none of those #s make sense except for 320)
BMW put ambient lights from night clubs into their new 7, because the new S class has it.
According to a recent report, BMW is preparing an estate version of the M3 range-topping model.
Slovenian Avto Magazin says the M3 Touring will probably be ready for this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show with sales starting shortly after.
No other details are currently available but it’s not hard to imagine the model will get sporty bumpers, larger wheels and all other exterior and interior features of the M3/M4. Power will likely be provided by the same 3.0-liter engine with 431 PS (317 kW) and a maximum torque of 550 Nm (406 lb-ft).
When fitted to the sedan and the coupe, this unit provides a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration in 4.1 seconds, so the M3 Touring will likely be 0.1-0.2 seconds slower. The 250 km/h (155 mph) top speed will remain unchanged.
In case if anyone is wondering what is the difference between N55 and the new B58. Apparently a lot more than what I expected.

Cool. For this year's Monterey Motorsports Reunion, BMW announces that they will be bringing in a 2002 M3 GTR Straßenversion. This will be the 2nd time ever this particular M3 has made the trip to North America.
e46 Mmmmmmmm I still want one!!! I don't care they are old and would cost alot to maintain. E36 is hard to find that's not abused, otherwise that would be my first choice
