This is a CGI. Take it for what it is. It's someone's theory of what the next A4 may look like. Sometimes people that make CGIs, have insider info. And those are the good sources. In this case, I am not sure, but it looks like a possibility. IT's still far from being available so we will see many more of these.

The problem with Audi is that it always falls a little too short and/or a little too late. This is what the car should look like, today. At least the coupe version (which we dont even have).

Audi S4 25quattro – Commemorating 25 Years of Audi quattro

You’d have to be living under a rock if you are an Audi enthusiast and didn’t know that this year was the 25th Anniversary of quattro. Audi’s PR staff and sites like this one have been mentioning it for months, and the party isn’t over yet. Just to drive that point home, word has gone out to dealers this week of a special commemorative ‘25quattro’ edition of the S4.

Like the 2006 S4, the ‘25quattro’ S4 will come with Audi’s new Torsen C with 40/60 front/rear bias and only equipped with a manual 6-speed transmission. It’ll also get a subtle new “V8” badge just below the European sidemarkers on the front fenders – a running change on all 2006 S4s and similar in placement to the W12 badge on the top-of-the-heap A8s.

In addition to the running changes, several options from the S4 equipment list will be standard on this limited run car. These include:

- Premium Package – including sunroof, Homelink, rain sensor, heated front seats, and other premium equipment
- Audio Package – including Sirius satellite radio, Bluetooth phone preparation and voice control
- Audi Navigation plus System with glovebox 6-disc CD changer

This limited edition S4, of which only 250 will be made, makes use of exterior trim formerly utilized by quattro GmbH for the Audi A4 DTM. For now, the U.S. market will be the only one to get this treatment on an S4.

The kit includes a front bumper/spoiler modified for America with the addition of North American sidemarkers, sideskirts, trunk spoiler and rear bumper. Foglights have been deleted. Carbon fiber accents the car's chin and trunk spoilers, just as it does on the DTM edition. Also from the DTM, the S4 ‘25quattro’ will roll on 18-inch 15-spoke wheels inspired by those used on Audi’s DTM racecars.

You can have your S4 ‘25quattro’ in any color… as long as it’s Avus Silver – a color previously only available on the RS 6.

As a nod to the original Quattro that took the world by storm 25 years ago, Audi will include two logo decals with each car. Owners can opt whether or not to install the four-ring decals, which would be placed on the lower front portion of the driver and passenger side front doors, just as they were on the Ur-quattro.

To emphasize the significance of quattro on this car, “S4” badging on the front grille will be replaced by a “quattro” badge.

Inside, the car gets the quattro GmbH treatment. Cabin beltline trim will be carbon fiber – different from standard S4 carbon fiber, and identical to what you’ll find in the new RS 4 when it comes to market. The S4’s Recaro seating will be swathed in two-tone black and jet grey silk nappa hide with “quattro” embossed in place of the Recaro logo and with jet-gray stitching. Matching jet-gray leather will adorn the door panel inserts and segments on the steering wheel. Additional jet-gray accents such as floor mat trim and stitching on the emergency brake handle will also be included. A special ‘25quattro’ shift knob will come in each car, denoting it is “1 of 250” may well be icing on the cake.

The Audi dealer communication suggests there’ll be a contest of some sort that includes a 2-year lease on one of these cars. In addition, the S4 ‘25quattro’ will debut at “The Quail”, an automotive concours held in Monterey in August. Cars will begin to arrive in late October/early November. Pricing should range from $62,000 - $64,000 based on reports we’ve read.

From the sound of it, the S4 ‘25quattro’ will be a special order only vehicle as it is so limited in number and only for sale in the United States. Canada will not get the car. The S4 ‘25quattro’ will be allocated to orders first, then on to dealers with the highest rates of S4 sales if any are left. If you’re interested in one, contact your dealer as soon as possible and get yours reserved.

More details will be released to the press as the mid-August launch date approaches.

Photograph Note: The photos associated and included with this article are photoshop productions based on German market A4 DTM press photos and have been created to represent what you can expect with the ‘25quattro’. Notably, these photos differ from what we expect the car to appear with in only two places - when the car is launched, it should also have polished aluminum mirrors and silver window trim as with the standard S4.

I like the looks of that 25Quattro but $64k is steep.

Sidenote: I just read that C/D comparo between the RS4/C55/M3 ---> $80k for the RS4!!! Nice car but IMHO not worth the $25k premium over the S4.

Seems like both VW and Audi need a clue when it comes to competitive pricing.

New Audi A4 Cabriolet

An enjoyable and sporty driving experience, superior and complex technology, classic and exciting styling, and luxury that even satisfies the demands made in the luxury class: Audi is presenting the new generation of a car that has become a classic – the A4 Cabriolet.

The advent of a new model generation is evident at first glance: the open-top four-seater now has the single-frame grille that typifies the brand. The newly styled rear lights add a further visual touch. The car’s taut styling, clear surfaces and tension-packed shoulder line extending along the entire body are characteristic features of the A4 Cabriolet.

The car’s technology lives up to the promise made by its new styling: the A4 Cabriolet is being launched with four engines, three of which are being offered for the Audi A4 Cabriolet for the very first time. FSI and turbo FSI technology represent the most advanced state of the art for petrol engines, as do the ultramodern piezo injectors in the three-litre TDI, which is already familiar from the A4, A6 and A8. The sporty yet comfortable dynamic suspension converts the power delivered by these units into sheer driving pleasure – on every bend, on every mile of the journey.

Innovative and highly sophisticated technologies are an integral part of practically all vehicle areas and components: the optional xenon plus headlights, with dynamic cornering lights as an option, are proof of this, as indeed is quattro permanent four-wheel drive.

Comprehensive occupant protection systems – including a two-stage driver’s airbag and side airbags – together with the highly complex, latest-generation electronic stabilisation program ESP provide high reserves of safety. Features specific to the Cabriolet include improved side impact protection and the active roll-over protection system with two roll-over bars which are projected behind the rear seats.

The quality of materials and workmanship in the interior are of a standard that need not fear comparison with the luxury class. The architecture of the driver’s area, especially the cockpit – a perfect synthesis of ergonomics, function and design – is pioneering.

The design

Self-assured in appearance: the striking single-frame grille and newly styled clear-glass headlights with their curving, emotional line give the new Audi A4 Cabriolet a completely new face. The trapezoidal shape of the single-frame grille is continued in the more prominent contours of the engine hood.

This front-end styling, which consciously alludes to design elements of the Nuvolari quattro coupé study, is already to be found on all new Audi models and makes every Audi unmistakeable.

Taut lines and clear surfaces that hold no secrets, coupled with a tension-packed shoulder line extending along the entire length of the body, produce a look that is simultaneously powerful and elegant. The rear end is distinguished by newly designed lights of clear-glass appearance which also emphasise the Cabriolet’s premium quality from behind. The new rear diffuser underscores the car’s sports character.

The modern and innovatively designed interior fits in with the progressive look of the car’s exterior styling. The new-generation steering wheels provide an entirely new visual touch inside the A4 Cabriolet. Their characteristic element is the airbag cover with its single-frame design. Door sill trims with aluminium inserts and numerous aluminium inlays are a standard feature of all new A4 Cabriolet versions.

Inlays in Walnut, Fine grain birch wood grey or Fine grain birch wood beige can be ordered as an alternative. These are attributes that also emphasise the special exclusiveness and elegance of the interior of current A4 models.

Customers can choose from one cloth, one cloth/leather, one leather and one leather/Alcantara trim version in different colours for the surfaces and seats.

The excellent ergonomics of the previous generation is also to be found in the new Audi A4 Cabriolet. The cockpit and cabin are characterised by the generous use of surface areas and the flowing transition from the instrument cluster into the dashboard. At the same time, the new Audi A4 Cabriolet offers a high level of interior comfort.

The high standard of comfort and quality, which more than satisfies the demands made of the luxury car class, is once again particularly outstanding. This impression is immediately conveyed by the high-grade materials and excellent finish of the interior.

Almost all convertibles look good with the top down, but only a few are equally as attractive with the top up. The Audi A4 Cabriolet cuts an extremely fine figure both open and closed. The fully automatic, electro-hydraulic hood can be operated when driving at a speed of up to 30 km/h – an advantageous feature that is not to be underestimated in the city, for example, where it is not always possible to stop suddenly. Thanks to its good thermal insulation and glass rear window, the Audi A4 Cabriolet can also be used without restriction in the winter. But the A4 Cabriolet is not only a car for all seasons because of its outstanding insulation – quattro permanent four-wheel drive technology additionally improves the car’s safety and handling.

As an option Audi also offers an acoustic hood, which goes even further in the direction of insulation. By using new fabrics with a greater material density, the noise level inside the cabin is reduced further, virtually matching that of the A4 saloon, even at fast motorway speeds.

Engines and transmissions

Powerful yet economical petrol and TDI engines provide the basis for the new Audi A4 Cabriolet’s excellent performance.

Audi is now also offering two highly modern petrol engines with FSI petrol direct injection for the new A4 Cabriolet: the 188 kW (255 bhp) 3.2 FSI V6 and the turbocharged two-litre four-cylinder 2.0 TFSI, which delivers 147 kW (200 bhp). These combine high performance with a spontaneous response to every movement of the accelerator pedal and a peak-torque range at a high level. The 163 bhp (120 kW) 1.8T already familiar from the previous model is also available.

The TDI range at launch will comprise the six-cylinder 3.0 TDI with common rail injection and piezo injectors. Equipped with ultramodern technology, the TDI engine delivers 171 kW (233 bhp) in the A4 Cabriolet. This immensely powerful V6 makes a torque of 450 Nm available between 1,400 and 3,150 rpm.

The four engines deliver their power to the road either via the front wheels or by means of quattro permanent four-wheel drive. Customers can choose from 5-speed and 6-speed manual gearboxes, the continuously variable multitronic, which has seven speeds in the tiptronic mode, and the 6-speed tiptronic transmission.

The chassis

The set-up of the dynamic suspension system, with four-link front and self-tracking trapezoidal-link rear suspension, has been completely modified and numerous new components added. Audi’s chassis engineers have made extensive changes in the area of elastokinematics, and to the spring and shock absorber settings.

The steering has been completely modified to give the driver greater precision, but also better feedback from the road when cruising. In connection with this, the engineers adopted several mountings and the dimensions of the front and rear shock absorbers from the new Audi A6; the rear trapezoidal links and the front track rods originate from the S4.

These modifications add up to a significantly higher level of agility and precise handling, combined with first-class ride comfort – all qualities which benefit drivers of the Audi A4 Cabriolet. This also applies to the brakes, the dimension and consequently performance of which have been adapted to suit the potential of the new engines.

Equipment and trim

The Audi A4 Cabriolet offers a standard equipment specification which sets a benchmark in the midsize class. Every new A4 Cabriolet, for example, comes with an electric hood and deluxe automatic air conditioning with separate temperature controls for driver and front passenger.

All seats are equipped with three-point inertia-reel belts (the front belts have belt-force limiters and belt tensioners, plus a seat belt reminder for the driver) and head restraints. The safety equipment specification also includes a driver’s airbag activated in two stages and side airbags.

Electric windows are also part of the standard equipment package, as are electrically adjustable exterior mirrors and a central locking system with remote control.

There are almost unlimited possibilities for combining optional extras. As well as optional xenon headlights, which are combined as standard with daytime running lights, the new Audi A4 Cabriolet can be ordered for the first time with dynamic cornering lights. An optional light/rain sensor activates the dipped headlights and windscreen wipers automatically if necessary. The glass rear window is heated and has a time switch.

In the field of infotainment, the DVD navigation system plus with MMI operating logic sets new standards in terms of user guidance and ergonomics: key geometry and menu architecture are based on the MMI standard familiar from the Audi A8 and A6. The system’s range of functions and quality are without equal.

Customers can choose from 13 exterior colours, five of which are being offered for the first time for the Audi A4 Cabriolet. The range also includes four hood colours and three different tones for the headlining. The wheel range comprises nine summer and three winter wheels of up to 7.5 x 17 J in size, with tyres up to 235/45 R 17. Additional versions up to 18 inches in size are available from quattro GmbH.

In addition, the S line range from quattro GmbH contains numerous other visual and functional features for making every Audi A4 Cabriolet even more sporty and personal.

The Cabrio only has character with the top down. I actually like it with the top down. With it up, it looks bland and boring (I ascertain that the sedan will look equally boring).

The All-new 2007 Audi RS 4
More Power Under Greater Control
Combining motorsport technology with functional perfection, the all-new 2007 Audi RS 4 is a dynamic and sporty concept on the road, capable of thrilling its driver in every situation, whether in everyday driving or on the race track. September's Robb Report wrote, "Beneath the aluminium hood is the 8-cylinder heart of a race car." European Car
(October 2005) nicknamed the machine, "a race car shrouded in civilian clothing." Developed by Audi subsidiary quattro GmbH, the RS 4 illustrates quattro's continued tradition of bridging the gap between motorsport technology and a high standard of practical value for
everyday use. The "RS" abbreviation stands for unmatched performance, technological innovation, and unique driving dynamics.

The RS 4 features a compact, highrevving V8 4.2 FSI? direct injection engine, featuring 420 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque (European performance data), and a 6 speed manual gearbox. The RS 4's eight-cylinder power unit provides maximum thrust and performance, with the FSI? technology reaching a new highpoint. The RS 4 accelerates to
60 mph in 4.8 seconds and reaches 120 mph in an astonishing 16.6 seconds. The RS 4 also features Audi's Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) featuring variable shock absorption, and a new generation of quattro drive with asymmetric/dynamic torque distribution. The combination of quattro drive, DRC, and suspension specifically geared to the RS 4 allows this outstanding high-performance Audi to hold the road safely, even in the absolute limit ranges at top cornering speeds, by diminishing pitch and roll. The RS 4 impressive brake system features cross-drilled and ventilated brake discs, eightpiston front fixed callipers, and single-piston swing callipers on the rear wheels. This enables the Audi RS 4 to offer supreme stopping power and directional stability. The Electronic Stability Program (ESP), with its dry braking function, provides an additional boost to safety.

The RS 4 comes standard with attractive 19" cast aluminum, 7-double spoke, RS 4 specific wheels, as well as Recaro? seats featuring an RS 4 logo and leather piping.

Additional standard features of the RS 4 include:
* Rear Parktronic

I kind of went on a rant there, but BMW should use the leasons learned from the CSL and apply it to the next gen M3. Using economies of scale across the whole M3 line would help offset the price. Use more aluminum and Carbon Fiber on the M3. Heck, bring back a lightweight version to the US. The M3 will be expensive, so what's an extra couple of grand on top of the msrp. You also have to look at the upcoming competition. I know for a fact that M3 owners cross shop Vettes. My friend sold his modded E46 M3 for a Z06. The new Z06 and M3 should be quite close in price range.

BTW....the RS4 and S4 is a heavy pig.
Rumors for the M2 I have heard involve the venerable S54, just like with the M roadster and coupe.

Forget the lessons learned on the CSL, excellent car BUT US customers will NOT buy them in droves like the M3, we don't want stripped track cars, but they do make good teenage bedroom wall fodder.

True Z06s and M3s are cross shopped BUT the choice is made on whether you want huge performance and less luxury in a true sports car or a dare I say perfect GT. They aren't in the same category. The real cross shopping of the M3 is the 911.

To the previous post about each generation of M3 getting worse. Very subjective, I have owned (from new) and tracked all three chassis codes and even with my E36 with the Euro Evo engine I did not reach my lap times with my E46s. The final verdict is the previous generations had better steering feel, more neutral handling (you can't really get this in ANY car any more) and were more tossable due to weight. But the facts are the E46 has higher limits, frankly is easier to drive, produces faster lap times with ease (even AutoX) and is a more comfortable and luxurious car all the while. Also on the weight issue, weight has grown a lot due to regulation and also the publics desires. Having owned all three I can say that I would love to own a unmolested E30, or a 95 (OBD1) E36 (not to mention a LTW) BUT for a track day, midnight run in the country, attack of the Tail of the Dragon or a cross country trip I will take my E46 every time. The M3 is taking the same path as every other performance car, they all are getting "softer" BUT they are getting faster, my God even the Elise is getting watered down, particularly the Federal version. Very few cars are hard core these days and the few that are are dinos and will disappear with the next generation.

One other thing I wonder about the RS4, will it be crippled like the RS6. I had a deposit on one when it was announced (RS6) to find out later only a select few dealers would be trained to wrench them... Given I split my time between two homes and only one was near a "certified" dealer I thought better of the idea. Having owned (and loved) Audis I needed to know the FULL dealer network was available to me, 'cause I know I would need them!

Did I notice they changed the steering wheel?

One final jab, my money says: E92 M3 > RS4 (except in the number of doors race), but then again I am a fan boy!

Looks beautiful. Fresh, yet classic at the same time. And, the huge grille has totally grown on me. It's created an "image" for Audi. Boy have they come a long way from the days of the 5000 braking disaster in the 80's...
