Acceleration times of several cars from MotorTrend's "Car of the Year" test

Acura TL 6MT
0-60= 6.1
1/4= 14.44 @98.17 mph - High trap speed for time which means trouble with clutch possibly or terribe launch.

Acura TSX 6MT
0-60= 8.1
1/4= 15.8 @89 mph

BMW 530i 6MT
0-60= 7.4
1/4= 15.47 @90.4 mph that expensive dog....

BMW Z4 3.0 6MT
0-60= 5.5
1/4= 14.11 @97.93 mph - TL has higher trap speed. Which shows slippery clutch possibly.

BMW Z4 SMG
0-60= 6.1
1/4= 14.48 @96.56 mph - SMG just kills acceleration...proven once again.

Cadillac XLR 5A
0-60= 6.0 !
1/4= 14.15 @101.4 mph - Holy moly! That thing flies. I always thought the 320HP on that engine is way under-rated.

Chrysler Crossfire 5A
0-60= 7.1
1/4= 15.18 @93 mph

Chrysler Crossfire 6MT
0-60= 6.7
1/4= 14.74 @94 mph

Jaguar XJR 6A
0-60= 5.2
1/4= 13.58 @106.8 mph! Wow! Very high exit speed.

Mazda RX8 6MT
0-60= 6.5
1/4= 14.81 @93.5 mph - So par with the AT CLS...

Mitsu Lancer EVO 5MT
0-60= 5.0
1/4= 13.5 @101.6 mph - as expected

Nissan Maxima 3.5SE 5A
0-60= 6.6
1/4= 14.91 @95.26 mph

Nissan Maxima 3.5SE 6MT
0-60= 6.3
1/4= 14.77 @96.7 mph

Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Comp 4 speed Automatic Tranny
0-60= 6.9
1/4= 14.97 @92.76 mph

Pontiac GTO 6MT
0-60= 5.3
1/4= 13.62 @104.8 mph - nice trap speed

WRX 5MT
0-60= 6.1
1/4= 14.52 @92.3 mph

WRX STi 6MT
0-60= 5.1
1/4= 13.35 @102.58 mph

Toyota Solara SE V6 5A
0-60= 7.0
1/4= 15.16 @92.56 mph

VW Phaeton V8 6A
0-60= 7.1 THAT DOG!
1/4= 15.16 @93.5 mph - all that weight...

As elsewhere posted, the Toyota Prius was Car of the Year for MT. The Prius uses a CVT tranny. It did the 0-60 in 9.8 and the 1/4 in 17.04 @ 81 mph.

The Solara surprised me. Thats nearly a full second faster than the previous generation.

And Gav, I would say 98mph is pretty on-par for a 14.4 ET in a high hp/low tq close-ratio fwd car.

With stickier tires and a more aggressive launch 98mph would probably be good for 14.0-14.1 in the TL.

Also, on the Z4 3.0 vs. the TL-6, the TL HAS to weigh more than that little roadster, which would explain the better ET, plus it's RWD. Look at the 0-60 time, it is 6 tenths faster than the TL, but by the end it only beats the TL by 3 tenths and the TL has a higher terminal speed. This means at some point, probably once the TL is into 3rd, that the Z4 starts giving up ground.

Just like I thought. Z4 3.0 6 speed = 2998lbs, TL-6 w/navi = 3489lbs. Thats why the Z4 has a better 0-60 & ET, but the TL is making more whp so it has a better trap.

Agreed, though I am still suspecting a problem with the clutch or similar part with the TL. Might be wrong of course.

The quickest I have seen from a stock accord was the coupe doing 14.54 on the 1/4 mile. It was a manual tranny car of course.

No cars. I forgot to delete them. They were part of the copy/paste. Taking them off the original post. They are the times from the first car. The TL. Started copying and pasting and forgot to clean up.

And it'd have a lower time too, if it was AWD like those two... the AWD launches are just crazy.

I agree...a "baby" SC...but it is ghetto Lexus. I loved the Solara in the promo pics but the car on the street looks pretty bad to me. Maybe with a drop it would look better. Or dual exhaust (okay...even if it isn't TRUE dual exhaust). But it just looks like a chick car on the road? In the right pics, even the Sunfire with dual exhast looked okay...in person i looks really weak. KnowhatImean?
