Are you still using your OEM battery?

I'm installing a few audio upgrades this weekend that will result in me drawing a bigger load from my battery (1200w amp). All along I was planning on installing an Optima Yellow Top to replace my OEM battery which is a notoriously weak in the TSX. However, I've recently found out that Optima has discontinued the Yellow Top for the TSX - the 51R. After doing a couple of searches, it seems as though the Yellow Top 75/25 & 35 will fit in our car (a bit snug)....well, I can't find anybody who has either of those battey sizes in stock...WTF?

I also found the Exide Xtreme which is another deep cycle battery, but they too have discontinued the size that fits the TSX.

Anyone have any alternatives to the Yellow Top that they've had success with? Has anybody made upgrades to their audio system and the OEM battery was actually sufficient? The OEM battery is just so weak that I can't imagine it being able to survive with the new amp that going in on Saturday.

Thanks for the help

Hmm...no I didn't. I'm assuming maybe you're suggesting the D34M Blue Top? http://www.optimabatteries.com/publi...cal_specs.html

I never consiered using a "marine" battery for my car...is their any difference between the two as far installing and the effect it will have on your electrical system? I'm not really sure what differentiates a marine battery from an auto battery. Now that I think about it, I don't suppose there's too much difference...One thing I do know...it's a danged heavy battery - pretty much double OEM. Oh well...the car is getting about 70 lbs. heavier with the audio upgrade anyhow...good thing I'm not a racer.

Hmm...where to find a marine battery...

Just buy the 51. I have it in my car and it fits fine, I dont know why everone wants the 51r. Install took 5 minutes and there are no mods needed.

Optima discontinued both the 51 and 51R. I wish I could get a 51...it's nothing but a 51R with the terminals reversed. Optima said there was a design flaw with the 51(R) batteries which resulted in them discontinuing the battery. I asked if they had plans to restart production anytime soon and the rep said he doesn't expect production again anytime soon.... https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30443

Love ya, O, but the red top sucks. I hate them.

I'd get an Exide Orbital.

Dude, any suggestions on where to pick up an Orbital? I'm assuming you must be talking about the second of these two batteries:

http://www.exideworld.com/products/a...bital_XCD.html
http://www.exideworld.com/products/a...t_orbital.html

The first battery is the Exide Extreme (Orbital) that's designed for deep cycle use...however I can't find anybody who carries our (TSX) size...not even Remybattery which Zasker gave the link to...so, I'm guessing you may have purchased the Orbital Select...but from where? The only Exide Battery I can locate are the ones that are a direct replacement to the OEM battery, providing basically the same performance as the OEM battery...

i believe batcap is not a battery to use by itself, it is more like a capacitor, but just a HUGE one.....

maybe you can use your original battery plus a batcap

I recently noticed that my battery is getting weaker during startup. It's still fine, the car just doesn't crank as fast.
