XM to Sirius Conversion Chip

I was talking to one of my co-workers today who has a brother-in-law that works for Sirius. He tells me that Sirius makes adapters for cars that come with XM built in that convert the systems to Sirius. Supposedly the adapter will leave all the original funcionality (i.e. song titles / artists displayed on stereo, etc.) but convert the system to Sirius.

Personally, I think this is great since Sirius seems to have a better sports package than XM... I will definitely be looking into this more

Has anybody else heard of anything like this?? I did a quick searh and didn't see anything about it.

Really?!! That sounds tight!! I would much prefer Sirius myself too. I just wish you didn't have to pay $13 a month though!

Basically it is not a chip per se, but an adapter. Directed is distributing an adapter for Alpine so that XM capable Alpine decks can use a Sirius tuner. Expect more announcements for converters like this at CES.

I guess CES figured out that JVC, Clarion, and Kenwood weren't gonna trump Pioneer, Alpine, and Delphi on the XM deal, so time to join 'em: )

I am a at this satellite radio, but can you go the other way as well? From Sirius to XM? I know for instance, MB only offers Sirius. Is there way to convert that over to XM? Could I just get the Roady 2, switch the antenna and subscription?

The adapter requires the right kind of plug at each end.

So the Sirius adapter has an Alpine plug at one end and the Sirius plug at the other.

I haven't heard anyone making that kit for OE's yet... but hey, there's always CES...

Hey Eld, is Pioneer planning on coming out with something like this? Or is this only for Alpine headunits?

At the moment it's not an Alpine brand part. Sirius is deciding to make their own Alpine adapter to drive Sirius sales. I think that this also gets around Alpine's XM agreement, since it's not an Alpine-made adapter.

So it only makes sense for Sirius to make a Pioneer version. I would suspect it would come out in January, but I have no firm data on it...

I wish Sirius would make some better control heads... the Kenwood is the least offensive, but nothing as good as the XM Commander or the SkyFi 2.
