XM Reception Question (with Window Tinting)
XM Reception Question (with Window Tinting)
I have a question regarding the XM unit, for those who actually have one installed.
I had my windows tinted about 4 months back and they used SolarGuard flim on all five windows. I guess a material in this brand of film causes the GPS signal to be degraded.
The GPS works fine, but takes about 2-3 minutes before it syncs up with the sat's.
My question is for anyone who has the XM unit installed -with- tinting.
I checked with the dealership and we looked at the installation guide, and it seems that the XM antenna is mounted in the rear deck as well.
With window tinting, is the XM signal degraded at all, as it is with the GPS signal? Is there a sound quality difference? Will it even work?
Thanks!

i can't say that i have performed a shielding analysis across the EM spectrum for this window tinting material, but common sense suggests to me that the tint only attenuates the visible spectrum. i highly doubt that devices operating at other frequencies would be affected at all by the window tinting.
