Wired Rotary Commander
Wired Rotary Commander
Hello,
Well, I have an Xplod HU, and i got annoyed of using the card remote all the time, so I decided to go with another option of getting a rotary commander which is basically a remote that has all the funtions but it is made so you dont have to look at it to use it and i want to attach it somewhere around the steering wheel.
Wireless remote
Wired Remote
I purchased the wireless remote first, great tool, but it sucks, the signals were barely reaching, and I mounted it on the side of the existing stock volume control, not too bad, but that had to go.
Now I wan to get a wired RM-R4S, and attach it in the same location as I did the wireless before....
now here is my question:
What mechanism is used to control the existing volume/cruise control wires? when you are turning the wheel, the wire turn? how does it work? Or is it based on touch connectors that are located at one position? I need to apply the same concept with installing the wired remote.
Im ready for enlightenment.

i believe each function on the wired remote registers a certain resistance value at the headunit. i probably would not mount the sony remote on the steering wheel; maybe attach to door or center console. did you know you can restore the stock audio controls using the PAC swi adapter (albeit the sony remote offers more functionality)?
Yep, listen to StanMan--don't mount a wired remote on the steering wheel. I like to mount mine near where my right arm rests so it's easy to control. (Been using high-end Sony's for years). You can buy the adapter to use the stock controls, but since there's only three buttons, it's not going to be as nice as a rotary remote.
I mounted a bracket on the driver's side of the center console to mount mine. Last car I just used the double-sided adhesive and stuck it on the center console in a convenient position. Instructions say to mounted it on the steering column.
