I wanted to know if the MB Quart QSD 216's will fit in the stock location of an 05 TL. The stock speaker size is is 6.5", but i was wondering if the depth would be a problem. I have a feeling that spacers would probably be needed, but would that prevent me from using the stock grilles? thank you

 

Spacers are just about always required to match the depth of the OEM frames, but if they fit they stay behind the stock grilles.

I haven't seen the Q magnets tho... anyone?

 

well, i was searching for some speaker installs in 3rd Gen TL's and came across this one:

I think that the 05 TL has dash-mounted tweets and for that reason I wouldn't put MB Q's into one...

But this is a situation where there's no good way to predict. It's determined by the frame diameter at the point that the spacer determines. You're best off learning how to pull the door panel and then doing so in the parking lot of a dealer that will let you test-fit the mid right there.

Or going with a silk soft-dome... DLS, anyone? Will fit due to the 3" voice coil Morel-type frame design. Chambered tweets play smooth and low.

 

If it were my car, I wouldn't mind going with your recommendations but seein that this is my dad's car and he loves the sound of the MB Q's as well as being able to get a set for realtively cheap, i thought i would just see if anyone here has installed them in the newer TL. I don't think we will be putting the tweeters in the OEM location because of the titanium tweets reflectiin of the windscreen, so possibly putting then in the door or sail panel.

Believe me, when i can afford new speakers, im definately going with your recommendations
