Wierd amp/box problem
I recently installed two 12" subwoofers in a custom box with a 350w amp in my '97 CL 2.2 ...
Everything seemed to be fine as I finished up all my wiring, but when I got in my car to take a ride the bass was missing in action. I pulled over to check things out, popped the trunk, and BOOM, bass kicks back in. So I checked all the connections, made sure no wires were getting pinched, shut the trunk, and the bass stopped again. WTF!?!?! I went back home, pulled everything out and put everything back together, still won't play with the trunk closed. Keep in mind there are NO wires ANYWHERE NEAR the trunk or the trunk latch. The only thing I can think of at this point is the ground wire, which I attached to the bracket that holds the jack... but even that is to the side of the tail-light assembly, at least 2-3 feet from the trunk latch.
Before I start moving stuff around again, I wanted to see if anyone here had any insight, or possibly know where I could go to find some.
Thank you.

never heard of anything like that...
could the amp be overheating when you turn it up???
the sub is wired incorrectly for the amp (what ohm is everything?) and the amp goes into protect?

All I can say is that I used this same box with the same speakers and the same amp in my old car (which had much, much less trunk space), and I never had a problem with overheating.

Update: I also just tried taping the truck latch (actually the metal ring that the trunk latches on to) with electrical tape, covering every square inch of metal just to see what would happen... but it did not help. I'm at work now so there's not too much else I can do before I get back home.

Doesn't sound like you have a very good ground. Move to another spot. Make sure you are making contact with bare metal with nothing else much attached. A true ground should have it's own point by itself.

re-ground your cables to an existing ground like a bolt that already has wires grounded to it. if that works just drill a hole, under or above that ground spot and tighten your cable to a nice size bolt near the existing terminals
