whats better: yellow or redtop optima?

im pushing a little over 1500 watts, do u think i should get a redtop or a yellow top. the redtop took care of my dimming in my last car but i was only pushing 500watts, but my new system is just a wee bit more powerful.

Yes it will...but the yellow top is designed specifically for that purpose - to power heavy loads and be charged and discharged many times. I am getting one soon.

the red top is more for daily driving, w/o a heavy load being put on it. in other words, the red top is a good choice for an aftermarket battery if your car doesnt have any new accessories on it.

they dont do shit if you expect them to cure headlight dimming problems, but if you knew what they did then you would have an appreciation.

the red top will do the trick in all likely hood, but the yellow will last longer under the harsh conditions, and allow you to play the system with the engine off

Some people who dont know what they are talking about, think that getting a capacitor will solve light dimming problems...well you are wrong! that is not what they are for at all. The are to smooth out the voltage going to your amplifiers and provide uniform sound output levels. The thing that will save your lights, if you have a problem is a 2nd battery or an upgraded alternator.

Even yellow top batteies don't always do the trick, if you're running a high load in general. Remember, running factory HIDS (wait, i don't recall if yours has it) takes a lot of power.

When I had my 300zx I had 2 12"s and a HID 6000K system. And my lights dimmed even with a yellowtop, as well sometimse my car stalled too. Thats how bad it got, I was only running an Alpine V12 Expert 2 Channel 800watts

Capacitors will only help when there is a sudden shortage of power, for example those really low bass notes that come here and there, and then for the rest of the time period it recharges until that comes up again. Its not to solve power shortage for long term.

The nice thing about capacitors, is that if your car gets broken into and the battery gets unplugged, it acts as a backup battery for about usually a good half an hour

Best thing to do, reground your whole car. Get an extra battery (which kinda sucks for taking up space.
And beefing up an alternator, but that is pricy. I paid about 3 grand for my beefed up alternator at this shop not too far from home, but it works awsome. Output is like 280AMPS, hahaha. But if you go to other shops they do the same thing beef up alternators, but after like a year they fry or melt. It's really hard to find a good place to do it for you.

It took me forever to find this guy.

well my first post shows i have an 03 cl, so yes i have HID's. Im not looking for an answer to subs that power 10k watts. i have a 1500 watt system, and im asking if a yellowtop should take care of that.

i currently have a yellow top in my 3zx running 2 10" woofers at 1200W of rms power, with 2.4 farads of capacitance, and i have no dimming.

i had a yellow top (tha same one) in my cl running 3 10" woofers at over 2000 watts of rms power, and even with a 180 amp alternator i still had dimming problems.

caps just prevent a voltage drop across the power line from the battery to the amp, by being stored energy closer to where it is used, this prevents clipping or varrrying voltage during peaks in your music, it is more about sound quality and amp safety than it is about power issues.

search for post by "proaudio" in this section and read what he has said about caps and alternators in the past, there is good information there

everyones talkin this "prevents voltage drop" stuff, but why do u think the headlights are dimming in the first place? voltage drop... yes i know a cap will not eliminate dimming headlights but it makes it 90% better. especially if ur pushin a 2.4f cap...that should completley stop dimming headlights in a 1500w system. but the price diffence between a cap like that (a good one) and a yellow top is minimal, so i would get a yellow top instead especially living in chi-town.
