What's the best way to face one 12" sub.
I 've heard face it toward the tail light, and I've heard face it toward the trunk pass-through. Anyone that's played with it...let me know...

I was aways told that bass sounds better when it takes longer to reach you. Facing it towards the rear would make it resonate through the trunk before eventually coming through the pass through. The only problem with this is that it causes more trunk rattle.
Try this---
Play your music
Adjust drivers seat all the way back as far as it can go
Relax and lay back in the seat and listen for 10 seconds
Now sit up and put you head near the steering wheel
You'll definately hear the difference

Yep thanks Y2K3CL-S... That's what sparked my interest this topic. Before it was where to buy my audio equipment. I'd like to get some opinions before I get it installed... Thanks so far guys!

an adult perspective
I'd speculate that the bass needs to sound in sync with the mids/trebs/woofers etc, and one of the reasons for the direction that the subs face could be based on the amount of distance between the position of the subs and the listener. In my '90 Legend, the subs fired thru the back seat (passthru has nothing to do with it), but in my M3 the subs face rearwards since the distance is less due to the small rear seatting area and this provides for the sound to arrive more in sync. Since I'm not interested in displaying my system in competitions, the sub facing forward allows for the amps/crossovers/etc to be mounted on the rear of the box, which is easily accessible by just opening the trunk and removing the false wall in case I need to do any tweaking etc. all just my opinion

Here goes my opinion:
I think that with the Acura Cl we are lucky to have such a large area ski-hole. This ski-hole can function for two purposes when considering a subwoofer:
1. The sub can be seen from the front or from the back if plexiglass is used.
2. As with all subs in all trunks, ultimately SPL is lost due to the rear seats, thus trucks, SUVS, and hatchback will always have a competitive advantage. In order to overcome this disadvantage there are several resolutions. In my Civic, we used a bandpass box (a ported box will work too) and ported the box LITERALLY through the rear deck. By doing this we bypassed all of the trunk and sent the frequency right into the car cabin! Another resolution is to use the ski-hole. If you face the sub directly through the ski hole and create a pressure chamber between the sub and the box (thus allowing no air to escape except forward into the car cabin) you eliminate the resonance of the trunk again.
I hope this information helped and I have 3 pics provided to give examples.

The cutting and such itself was not that bad, what is a pain is removing the rear deck panel and finding the easiest spots to create a port through. Once those spots are discovered you can build your box based on those specs. The panel holding the ports and the port itself is 3/4 inch MDF and it has surpassed plenty of bass for 3 years.
