you need to specify. are you talking about: components, subs, amps, recievers, capacitors, etc......?? trust me, with 10g's you can do a lot. i spent about 3 and i didn't even do anything custom with it.

He's right it depends on what you're looking to do...

When all is said & done I'll have a $15G system in my car that cost me $10G's...just b/c I had a few of the pieces in my old car which effected the cost (1 set of speakers, 2 amps and the radio) & b/c my friend is doing the work. It's going to be full fiberglass amp rack & box, 4 Zapco amps (Reference 200 for the tweeters, 350 for the rear mids, 360 for the front mids and 750 for the subs), 15 Farad Cap, 3 JL 10W6 subs, Alpine CDA-7949 headunit, Zapco SX-SL X-over, 2 Zapco EQ30-SL 30 band Eq's, Zapco
DAII-SL processor & Zapco PSI-HPSL power supply so that I can utilize the symbilink link rather than running RCA cables, Focal Polykevlar 165K2's up front & Polykevlar 136K's in the rear.

My brother is spending about 10 G's in his '98 CL (all new equipment). He's going with an Alpine headunit (model yet to be deterimined), Focal Polykevlar 165K2's up front, Pheonix Gold Octane (limited edition) amp, Pheonix Gold's new computer driven Eq, 2 Pheonix Gold 12 inch XMax carbon fibre subs, in a full custom carbon fibre & fiberglass amp rack & box.

My brother's car is currently in and should be done in roughly 3 weeks, immediately following is my car. I'll be sure to post pics when they're done.

I don't remember too well but I don't think I spent $15G's for my equipment, and I think they are pretty good quality (see my sig)...

Those prices I stated were not for equipment only...they included the cost of material and labor (at a dicounted rate). After all with the fiberglass, carbon fibre inlays, neon, plexyglass, etc...the price will get up there. I personally have approximately $7,500 in equipment of which I already had $2,000 worth from my old car. I'm paying $4,500 for the complete install which should have run me btw $6,000 & $7,000.

Here is my parts price breakdown based on manufacturers suggested retail (not what I paid):

Alpine CDA-7949 - $750
Focal Polykevlar 165K2 - $653
Focal Polykevlar 136K - $498
Zapco PSI-HPSL - $100
Zapco SX-SL - $680
Zapco EQ30-SL - $375 (using 2 for a total of $750)
Zapco DAII-SL - $750
Zapco Reference 200 Amp - $369
Zapco Reference 350 Amp - $469
Zapco Reference 360 Amp - $549
Zapco Reference 750 Amp - $650
JL Audio 10W6 Subs - $175 (using 3 for a total of $525)
ALUMAPRO 15 Farad Capacitor - $475

Oh I see you are including install. Here is the MSRP of my equipment. I think I was quoted about $5000-$6000 for the install.

Nakamichi CD-700 - $1750
Nakamichi MB-70 - $549
Dynaudio MD130 - $169 each = $338
Dynaudio MW170 - $219 each = $438
Dynaudio X280 Crossover - $259
Dynaudio MW170 Grilles - $30
Dynaudio System 240MKII - $759
Brax Helix HXA400MKII - $570 (non MKII is $559)
Brax Platinum - $5500
Velodyne DF10sc - $900 each = $1800
Kimber Kable Total (8TC, 4TC, Silver Streak, Hero, Illuminations DV-75 = $1500

Will have by January -
Alpine NVE-N852A - $2000
Alpine TME-M790 - $1600

So total before install = $17 093

I didn't pay anywhere near that much, but it sucks that I live in Canada because the taxes for importing this equipment was crazy. For example, I bought the Helix HXA 400 MKII for $530 or something like that and at that time it converted to $810.90 Canadian but my taxes were almost $200!! That's crazy

Anyway, I wish I never made this post. I forgot how much I actually blew on this stereo hobby. Man if my girlfriend ever saw this post...

damn!!! you guys are mad crazy for dumping all that dough in a stereo. don't get me wrong, i love the boom and all that but where i live we have a noise ordance and the tickets aren't cheap. i've paid 2 and it cost me $524.00. are you guys using these for show or SPL comps or what?? that seems outraegous to spend 17 g's on a stereo if it ain't really going to use. i'm perfectly happy with my 3 g system. but hey if you got the money to spend then spend it. you can't take it with you when you go.

Wow! Nice systems! You guys could be sponsored by Zapco and DynaAudio.

Audiophile1--I never heard of Brax, but that 5.5K price tag caught my eye. Love the use of Velodyne subs.

Brax is a high end German company. It is in the same market segment as McIntosh, Genesis, and the like. I actually sold my McIntosh MC4000M to buy the Platinum. The Platinum is a highly "tweaked" X2400 and X2000 all in one large unit. If Photopoint still works, you can do a search for my post called "My Stuff" or "My Gear" hear on the forum. There are pictures of all of my equipment.

Here is their website
http://www.audiotec-fischer.com/index2.html

You can check www.theautophile.com (no relation to me, I actually stole my name from them ) If you get a chance you should talk to Peter, the owner he is one of the few true high end guys around. He is the National distributor for Brax. My entire system was bought from him.

The Velodyne's were a pain in the a$$ to source. Peter actually found me two of the last six in existence!

Yeah I am going to be competing in the IASCA Sound Quality competitions. My brother and I are scheduled to drive down to the Daytona Spring Break Nationals in March to compete. His setup is going to be very trick yet look somewhat stock. He's having 12's installed in the rear panels of the car's interior. They're going to be mounted behind the interior panel with a removable grill so that he can show them at the shows...

Headunit: Alpine IVA-C800 $2,000.00 1yr. warranty
Frontstage: Focal 165K2 $ 450.00 2 yr. warranty
Frontstage amp: JL 300/2 $ 450.00 2yr. warranty
Subwoofers: 3 JL w3 12" $ 600.00 2yr. warranty
Sub amp: JL 1000/1 $ 1,000.00 2yr. warranty
Equalization: Audiocontrol Eqs $ 300.00 5yr. warranty
Capacitor: Alumapro The C.A.P.5 $ 300.00 2yr. warranty.

Total Components $5,100.00

Prices are close estimates. Prices will differ from shop to shop. JL, Alumapro, and Audiocontrol warranty's are shorter if not installed by an authorized dealer. These components if properly installed and tuned should provide awsome sound.
