what're your thoughts on an amp kill switch

i've thought about putting one in my tl. just a simple toggle on/off killswitch for my sub amp remote wire using the stock HU and connecting it to the remote wire in the stock amp wiring harness. here are my questions

what would the pros/cons be
what kind of switch would i use
how would i wire it
could it damage my my amp or subs to have it turned on then immediately kill it

sorry i'm asking "noob" questions. i just don't know much on the subject of car audio. now i know 234234453456 times more because of this site but i still have some questions. any help is appreciated. thank you

You would use the remote wire on the amp, and as such, it wouldn't hurt the amp. You could hurt the subs if you heat the coils up enough to the point where it would swell in the gap then you turn it off immediately, you'll damage the sub (had a teammate do it, but I doubt it would happen in a "normal" setup).

Then again, I'm really not sure the point of such a switch. Just don't drive around with it loud enough to need it, and you'll be fine. AKA, use common sense and a little respect.

yea i do mine on remote. Well some of us who have kids you wanna be able to just flip it off. Instead of turning the subwoofer control off on the cd player. Much easier

What you don't ever want to do is do this to the ground circuit. Otherwise, eh, you're good to go.

Thanks for the props btw.

but with a stock HU on the 1999 3.2 tl there isn't a subwoofer control. but my amp comes with a separate subwoofer dial remote. i'll just stick to using that

universal "dimmer" knobs can be used in-line with the rca's if you want a bass knob without an amp that supports it. surf ebay you'll see,

I personally always like to use an on/off switch. That way, if I am either in a bad neighborhood or my mom is in the car, I dont have to worry about getting broken into or having my old mom flip out due to the deep bass (not that i have it that loud, but shes old lol). It also comes in handy when you are rewiring, etc. Just my 2 cents
