What speakers did YOU use?

For those that have replaced their front door speakers with 6.5s, what did you use? Do you like it? Was there something else you were interested in?

Just trying to get as many ideas as possible for what might fit in the car and then choose among those.

I went with audiobahn because I was on a tighter budget and I got them for wholesale. I also looked at JL, boston, and eclipse, but went cheaper, like my audiobahns for now though

I went with DLS Iridium's in front and DLS UR6S in the rear (both 6.5's) Couldn't be happier. I was considering Focals, but have decided this was a better choice.

The only problem is the depth of the magnet. I have a TL so it may vary from your TSX, but I don't see this speaker fitting in any vehicle without modifications.

Boston Pro60

Very pleased, although they sound probably twice as good with the quality install. My guy made some nice speaker rings and sealed them off very well. I used to have Kicker Resolutions, still have them in a box somewhere, and the Boston's put them to shame. The Kickers are just too harsh.

Also consider, DLS, Dynaudio. I'm not a fan of the big brand companies, ie Alpine, for speakers.

I used polk db6500's in the front.

I had to make spacer rings for 'em, it was easy and other than that it's a perfect fit.

The tweeters (6500's are components) required a little bit of trimming of the stock tweeter holes.

overall, a pretty easy swap.

Boston Z6

Used in my previous car, not installed in my TL yet, but will be soon.

One of the best 6.5 component speakers on the market. The sound reproduction is amazing.

It's interesting you say that because I heard specifically that the DLS UP6s weren't as deep as most speakers. Is that not the case, or were you speaking specifically about the Iridiums?

Alos, if you "don't see this speaker fitting in any vehicle without modifications," then does that mean you had to modify your door to get them in?

^^ Second to the infinity components. Its a good drop-in set (with metra brackets) for a nice bang-for-the-buck upgrade. I think it was the 60.3s components. I have a whole install thread on it somewhere you could look up.

You are talking about the UP6's, I have the UR6's. Sorry, I'm not familiar with the UP6's. Both the Iridium and UR6's were the same depth wise. These are the only pictures I have:

Comparison:

UR6's

Iridiums:

I didn't modify the door panel itself, but created a baffle/shim for the speaker, which was certainly necessary for my car.

I used Infinity 6012's for the doors. They were the best sounding $100 set I could find at the time.

Nice setup. Did you ever get that amp or whatever it was that was missing back in the trunk there? Also, do you have any closeups of the different pieces? Wanted to see how you finished it off.

I went with Boston Pro's in the front doors. They are running off a JL 300 2. The Amp is under the driver seat and the crossovers are under the passenger seat.

Talking

Diamond Audio 6.5 s600 Hex-FRONT
Diamond Audio 6x9's -BACK
JL Audio 12W3V2-SUB
Alpine MRV-F450
XM Commander Radio Unit

I have the Diamond Audio crossovers and line driver under the carpet in the front seats. I had to cut about 1/4" of the sound insulation to alllow for a flush fit. My next plan is to install a Audio Control 4.1i in-dash EQ to help dial in my music since I only have bass and treble control with the factory head unit. At the same time I do this I plan on putting sound deadening material in the doors, trunk and the floor when I have a very boring weekend : )
