What size to make speaker rings

Hey guys, I have 4 polk audio db651s (slim mount) coaxial speakers. Theyre 6.5" and i know theyre too deep for the stock speaker fitting. I want to install them so what size speaker ring should i make/buy? Like what size inner and outer diameter as well as the thickness would I need to fit these? Thanks!

Those should fit no problem honestly. I'd get a 6.5" MDF ring either way but still...with a 1/2" or 3/4" ring those will fit no problem. Look on ebay for cheap 6.5" MDF speaker rings/baffles and you're good to go!

If you bought em new they should have packaged dimensions with em. You can also stick em in the door and see much spacing youll need.

Under the link you provided, under features and specs it shows dimensions you need for the inner cutout and depth as well. These are pretty slim. They may fit with no ring at all

I currently am running component DB polks in the front and coax in the back off a soundstream amp. Sounds great but the fun does not end there! The DBs fit PERFECTLY with out midification. I used the stock bose white casing and mounted the speaker spacer that came with the DBs onto the white casing and it screws right into the door. The DBs then screw in perfectly to the ring and door panel goes on just right.

I am currently in the process of redoing the system and gutting everything out. Got a BRAND NEW Rockford T400-4 coming in next week. My plan is move my current components to the back, flush mount the tweeters in the doors. I just recently saw the 2011 edition of Alpine Type R components with 70% smaller magnet. So plan right now is mount the Type Rs in the front with a 1/4"- 1/2" MDF spacer I am making tomorrow and flush mount the tweeters right by the handles. While SOUND DEADENING (eDEAD V3) the entire trunk, rear deck and parts of the doors (since im almost out). I will take tons of pic and post a thread on the whole process. Till then good luck and PM me if any questions with the Polks

I have one good solution for you.

I just replaced the two front speakers (Acura 2003 TL) with Polk Audio Dxi650 yesterday. This solution may not be the best compared with all good solutions posted here, but it's good for me. I chose Dxi650 over Dxi650s (slim mount) because the lower frequency response 35Hz-22kHz vs. 50Hz-22kHz for Dxi650s. Dxi650 has the same specs as db651. I could not use the factory white mounting ring, 3/4" thick, because the additional mounting ring that comes with Polk makes it 1/4" too thick and I'm afraid it would hit the door panel.

I found from Best Buy speaker rings by Metra model 88-6600 (1/2" thick). It says for for Chrysler speaker adapter, but perfect for 2003 TL. Cut all the ear tabs around the ring. Use it with Polk mounting ring makes perfect thickness the same as the factory speaker mount.

Without the factory white mounting ring, you loose the rain/water drip protection for the speaker. However, I've had this car since 2002 (9 years) I don't see any sign of water on it at all. Good luck with your decision.
