Post What is a safe setting for the volume?

I was just wondering how loud the stereo can be played without risking blowing a speaker? I never turn mine above half way. Any comments? Am I just being anal? I mean there isnt mcuh worse than a rattling speaker.

When I still had my Bose speakers I could turn it up all they way with no distortion - that's what I liked about it but eventually I needed more. Even now with new amps, spkrs and sub I can crank it up without any distortion - but not as far up or my ears will bleed.

Isnt it true that the stock head unit is not able to blow out the speakers? Thats just what I heard. I dont go pass the half way mark on my car just to be on the safe side

speakers rarely blow due to over powering them or putting the volume too loud. possible, but rare

they usually blow when your playing a weak source and put the volume up. in other words, when you play distortion

if you only play legally bought cd's, tapes, and clear radio stations, you should be able to put the volume all the way up. just be careful when playing mp3's

actually, I was fiddling with this the other day. I found out that bose rigged up the volume increase a bit to keep the system from distorting. the volume from 0 to halfway increases way more than from halfway to max in comparison. in other words, I didn't notice that much of a difference from setting it to 3/4 or to full. all in all, still a nice system tho only wish the stereo imaging was a little higher onto the dash .. will probably fix that with a component set and tweeters from there mounted onto the dash somewhere.
