what to look for in a hu

i'm planning to run two aftermarket amps off of a new hu, roughly 800 and 200 watt output amps, and then i want to run the coax speakers off of the hu. so what type of things am i going to look for when choosing which one to buy. what numbers affect the quality of the amps??

and if i'm running two speakers at 60 watts off the hu, do i look for 4X60 (since just about all of them are 4 channel), or could i get 4X30 and somehow make that 2X60???

when checking out headunits, you look at the RMS number for true every day power...it's not gonna look so hot compared to the PEAK power you normally see printed on the headunit. maybe get a 4 channel amp.

you should not bridge headunit power!

you probably want 3 sets of rca outputs. run the 200w using the front rca and sub rca for the 800w. wire normally for the rear speakers.

s/n ratio - higher the better.

thd - lower the better.

The most power you are going to get is probably 20 watts or so. The newer Alpines have a mosfet amp built in and can maybe reach 25-30 watts. I think some Panasonic amps do as well. I do not think anything will come close to 60.

I would say a lot of little transitors and diodes.
