what kind of signal do steering wheel controls send?
what kind of signal do steering wheel controls send?
I want to wire it up to something since it no longer controls the radio. I'm just not sure if it will be able to control a relay or what...
The stearing wheel controls come from run into 1 wire (so they are directly connected for an electronic cirtcuit connection to the head unit) you can easily change them to work anything controlled by infrared ex...your ned head unit, dvd, playstation etc....
Pacific Accessories Corporation (PAC) sells an awesome adapter that i have used in numerous installs and it is super easy to put in. It will allow you to reprogram all your audio control buttons to control a new unit and u place the 'eye' near the unit on the ceiling....

The steering wheel wire actually sends a ground with varying resistance... the buttons each connect the wire to ground through a different resistor, one dedicated for each function.
It's not a highly-technical data bus or anything.
Buy one here. http://www.autotoys.com/x/cust/produ...?productid=597
If you have the OE HU then you shoulduse THIS one:

Thanks for the info, whosanthony. I was hoping to wire it up to the sunroof though. Is that possible?
elduderino says it sends a ground. So it should be able to work with the sunroof, yes?

Maybe you should explain exactly what you want to do. Don't worry about what's a ground and what's not a ground. What action and reaction do you want?

i actually bought the PAC SWI-X and its just sitting in a box because the installer said that it wasnt compatible or something...i dunno. i didnt really ask much into it, but Eldude, do you think its possible to use this unit? cause i would really like to have my steering wheel controls, that would be the icing on the awesome cake that is my system, hahah
You should be able to use either the X or the other one that lets you control add-on gera AND the OE HU.
Motohip, your sunroof button probably has three features: vent open, full open, and close.
The PAC units don't give you individual wire outputs that trigger - they just give you an infrared data signal. You need to translate the signal from the buttons into three unique triggers. It is possible to do, but it is not simple... essentially you need to build your own circuit to distinguish among the different triggers. Unless you are into this project and want to do some learning and some soldering, or you know someone who will, it's probably a nonstarter.
