what do i need for ps2?

I think this is something you might be interested in, PS2 on 12V without an inverter: http://www.asdffdsa.net/car/howto/ps2_in_car.htm

After looking at the wiring diagram, it appears that it can accept both 120VAC and 12VDC. Cool, I didn't ask for too much!

Depends how much current you're trying to yank out of that inverter. The more current you're pulling, the more heat it's going to generate. If you get a small inverter and run it to the max, it's going to get hotter than an inverter that is bigger (assuming everything else is constant). One reason is a bigger heatsink. More surface area .
