Usa Spec Y_cable Ipod Install Question?
Usa Spec Y_cable Ipod Install Question?
I have an 05 TSX with Navi and XM. I got the USA Spec and the neccessary Y-Cable. Should I go to Circuit City to get it installed or do it myself? And could I get an in-depth description of how to intsall this. Thanks.
There is absolutely no need to go to CC to get this installed. A novice can do this in less than 15 minutes.
Remove the storage pocket just under your radio by grabbing the sides of it from the inside and pullout out, hard. On the bottom of the radio, near the back - center of it, is a cable going up into it that you can easily reach and pull out. This is where you will plug in your y-cable, and insert the USASPEC cable and the original cable into the 2 female ends of the y-cable. Push it all back in and you're done.
Even more detailed instructions can be easily found by searching. Good luck.

I have just about zero car installing skills and had no problem with this. You can read some of the threads on installing other ipod adapters to get some discussion on how to pull the storage bin out, which was the only slightly (very slightly) tricky part of this for me. I opened the not an ashtray lid as well so I could get a better grip on the bottom lip of the CD storage bin, which is the one you need to pull out. Others have also suggested hooking on the two holes at the bottom of the bin and pulling on that.
Also, for me, I had to push quite a bit harder to get the Y cable male connector in compared to how the existing connector went in.
I drilled a 1/2 inch hole in the storage bin and whittled the plug connector down to fit through the hole.
