Upgrade from 3 8w6's to single 8w7?

I've been debating about changing out my sub setup from my current 3 JL Audio 8w6's to a single 8w7. I'd kind of like to have a bit more of my trunk space back and I've been quite pleased with the SQ and performance of my 8" subs. I am running my 3 8's and would also be running the 8w7 with my MTX Thunder 2160 which bridges out to 425 watts. Just wanted to see what some of you guys think. I am only considering JL Audio products, so other brand suggestions aren't needed, but thanks. If I make the decision to change my setup, my 8's will be up for sale.

Thanks in advance.

i have actually had both combo's- 3 8W6 in my '94 civic, and the JL 8W7 H.O. box in my tsx now.....while they both sound really really good, the 3 8's were a bit louder.... i would maybe say the 10W7 would be a better comparable replacement......

I currently have 2 8W7's and it is definetly a good loud quality woofer. I was going to go with a single 10W7 but I think I made the right choice with the 2 8's.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'm still trying to decide on what I actually want to do, but any changes made, my 8's will be up for sale.

zzzed - Do you feel that the single 8w7 goes lower than the 3 8w6's?

are your current subs sealed or ported? The two setups will have very similar outputs and you probably wont be able to tell much of a difference - if you are looking for an upgrade in SPL, go with a 10W7 in a ported box.

I'll agree with that one.
